He won, but he was playing against someone who was random. Random is much harder to master than one specific race because u need to know 3x the build orders, and know relative timings for all of the matchups too. To say that "you have random advantage" would only work at a level where the random player knows all the build orders and relative timings really well, like a progamer would. The thing is that the OP isn't quite at that level yet ( no offense ^^; ), so "random advantage" isn't something that is applicable.

so who cares if you have to trade a small bit of econ for massive knowledge?

You only have random advantage when you get your best race, that is all. I never implied anything about advantage, I just like to talk shit myself to players who pick random just because I honestly think they are wasting time (unless they fuck around beign drunk or w/e lol, I do that myself sometimes).

btw tho, stop acting like you do not get an advantage from playing random. You do - the opponent doesn't know your race, and you know theirs. Which does mean there will be many times where you get a pure build order advantage and may get a win off someone that is 500% better than you. If you want to play random and then claim you're better than someone after you get a win off of them, play it and tell your race at the start of the game if they ask you. Otherwise, yes, you are gaining a free advantage, and no, it is not a disadvantage to learn more match-ups. When your opponent has one more piece of information than you when the game starts, they are at the advantage aka random players. so...he is bad mannered either way when he loses to random or not, but don't be BM yourself and try to claim you do not gain an advantage from going random.

I don't think I've ever stated that there's no advantage in playing random, and I totally agree that it limits their early options.I simply think that learning that many matchups is a big offset else everybody would be playing random (which this guy didn't understand). And I always tell my race when someone ask, so must people that care to know will be fine.

I think its ridiculous that the guy was so BM regardless of what race you are. Also I always wall off vs random in case they are zerg, cause if you don't you are FUCKED.

It's not a disadvantage to learn different matchups?Really?Yes sure in early game if you random you have a tiny advantage but maybe the other guy can just play safe?Is it that hard?Send probe after pylon/Just get a pool first/Terran can just go standart rax with tech lab and you are not in any sort of bad position? LOL I don't get this please explain.Personally I random only if it's not a zerg because I hate ZvZ .
