My 200 years of reign passed without too much events. With Zulu army standing near Timbuktu and my main force still grouping up in north, I decided to reinforce the city and send my army for counterattack.
As I would be focusing on war I used the great merchant to declare the First Golden Age of our Empire. I also put most of the workers to do what they think is best. The rest were tasked of building infrastructure and roads for the troops. Also due pirate sightings of I began building up our navy.
130 years of slow military maneuvers and laying siege until Khangela falls. And while celebrating the victory Darius ask us to start a new war - against the Aztecs. This is the chance to patch some of our diplomacy with the Persians. We need to stay in peace with them while the Zulu war continues. And as for the Aztecs they are so down on points they'll probably end up someone's vassal before seeing a single unit from them. So let there be war - at least for 100years till we could say it was just a hoax.
With the fall of Khangela I can now join my armies into a single massive attack to Ndondakuska. The enemy forces near Timbuktu have fortified themselves well, but haven't made any move on the city. So my plan was to bypass them all together.
Alas my spy reported big catapult caravan on the move to Khangela. While not a threat itself I didn't want to reveal my forces and spook it. So just let it come while gathering gold for the promotion of knights.
A great prophet was born and departed to the holy city to create a special place of worship.
1250-AD the last year of my reign. The Zulu foothold at Timbuktu is finally broken. At the same time our siege for is slowly approaching Ndondakuska. The Zulu are defenseless before our knights and will be unable to reinforce the city. And the war has weakened them and their forces are outdated. We can even take kwaDukuza before taking a rest.
I have switched our focus back to economy, as once we sign the peace our knights will be enough to deal with those barbarian cities. We are far the tech so all the options are open. We can press our advantage higher by massing an army and pushing the Zulu capital forcing them to become our vassals. Task our scientists to get us gunpowder and strike with smaller advanced force. Or grow our economy, get navigation and start trading with the civilizations on the other continent. There are triremes spread out in our costal cities, ready to be promoted and start circling the world.
Also: I am trading silk with the Persians, but once we capture Ndondakuska you can drop the deal and get another useful resource.

Okay!
So here we are, starting off:
I switched the specialists around in a few cities (and added one or two to a few cities that didn't have any). Main problem with diplomacy seems to be that everyone in our neck of the woods except us adheres to Confucianism. We could train some missionaries and convert ourselves, but that would take a lot of time and we're really not that far from free religion anyway. Darius doesn't seem to mind that much, although it does impact our ability to trade with him a little.
Their stack tried to attack ours, and failed badly. Ended up taking the whole thing out without a single loss:
A great prophet pops (or was there before?) and I used him to build the holy building for Buddhism. Helps our economy a bit, and it's nice that HolyCity is a money city to boot
Most of our cities have mints by now, and a lot of them are suffering from health problems so I build several grocers. I take advantage of our no anarchy ability to pop back to slavery to whip several buildings in cities that are getting too big for their own good.
Our stacks converge on the helpless city of Ndondakusuka. I sacrificed one catapult for collateral damage, and I think that was my only loss in taking the city. They had at least 10 units there that all died in short order.
I bribed Montezuma for some pocket change, since we really have no reason to be at war with him and only got into it at the insistence of our quasi-friend Darius.
I thought this was pretty neat. See all those macemen and knights? Yeah, they just went 16-0 with the defenders of kwaDukuza.
We took several losses hacking up uMgungundlovu (can we PLEASE rename these cities?), but our stack is still going strong and we could EASILY afford to train another round or two of macemen/knights. After this city falls we could vassalize Shaka if we want, but I think it would be more fun to take all of his cities for ourself. We are seriously steamrolling this game; we could probably get half of the modern wonders and still pick just about any victory option at this point.
Btw, I'm researching optics because I think it's about time we went and met the rest of the people in the world (and picked up that snazzy +1 movement bonus).

It is the year 1350. I held the hand of my father, the great King Alchemist, while he passed away in bed. Tears stung my eyes at the sight of his lifeless body, but I was not alone. The entire nation was mourning his departure. I will have to work wonders to achieve only half of what he has done. I am not helpless in the position of leader though, I have a plan; a plan of wealth and glory. Under my reign, I swear I will force the Zulu nation to bow their head. Our nation will prosper, to that I vow on the honor of my father!
1355 ad- Five years have passed since the death of my father. That handful of years was a trial to my succession, and I can now say I have succeeded. After many years of siege, the city of Ngungung is ours. I've established a government. Soon, the Zulu nation will answer to the Liquid empire. Their people will become our slave. We will build our nation on their back. We push forward.
1360 ad- Our scientist have discovered the secret of the lens. They brought forth a great invention that allows the holder to see at leagues of distance. I can already envision the advantage this will grant us - in all fields! Guilds of thinkers have also sprung from the ground. They call themselves philosopher, but I have hard time believing anything good can come from their endless arguments - we will see.
1390 ad- The philosopher have concluded their rambling. They seem to think Pacifism is the only mean to achieve success. Hah! They are fools. Our nation will never run hand in hand with our enemies. It's to wonder what this might have brought us. I've found a more useful subject to spend our resource on; warfare. Some great inventor have begun testing the use of a black powder as a weapon. Hopefully this will serve our purpose. In the city of General, the statue of our great general is being erected. This should boost the morale of our troops and improve the recruitment of new units.
1400 ad- As the National Epic was completed in Cuszo, I heard the dire news of the fall of Ngungung. It was a bloody battle on both side. The army was not in the city though. Taking Ngung will cost the Zulu. They will regret this. They moved troops from the nearby city to attack. I will strike where they are weakest.
1415 ad- A great prophet has appear in Cuszo. He has begun his pilgrimage to the city General.
1425 ad- The zulu city of Ondini has fallen. We suffered a minor lost and managed to pillage 125 gold. A second fist of unit is already positioned in front of their capital, let the Zulu take the bait and we will destroy claim their capital. We will bathe in their tears.
1430 ad- Our brave explorers have discovered a new continent - and a new civilization! They call themselves the Russian and in Russia, people lead you! In all seriousness, their leader, Catherine, is cautious toward us. From what the report claims, they are quite advanced and should be dealt with carefully.
1460 ad- I fear this will be my last entry. The reaper is pacing at my door, and no glory or riches will turn him away from me. I will not depart in sorrow, however, for after so many years of battle with the Zulu, their capital has fallen. My last wish is that my body be burned with the city itself. The Zulu will fear us from now on. Their civilization will serve as a tomb. Let my successor grasp the sceptre and govern us into another age!

That would be me, but SCII defeats me as well. Please PM nosliw.
|
Should we just take a week break or so to let the new wear off SC2? It seems silly to skip half the group when we're distracted by something rather shiny~
|
I say we skip a week. I am getting Starcraft 2 tonight. I didn't have it right away, so that's what allowed me to play Civ :O
|
haha I don't have SC2, I'll play
|
Go ahead
|
Ooh I just recently acquired Civ 4 and the expansions. I'd like to join the next newbie game.
|
Yeah, nosliw, feel free to play by all means. Truth be told, if my turn had come before SCII hit, I was going to pass if off to you anyway. But if the general consensus was to take a week off, that would have worked too. Have quite a bit going on in life in general so I've been too distracted for SCII even.
Would you like to be added to the list now Cloud, or do you want to wait and see if there's another newbie game?
|
What's up? Is anyone playing right now? if not I'll play. I don't have sc2.
|
sorry for the delay.... Cloud you should play instead of me
|
Yeah, go ahead and take nosliw's place if you want. I had added you to the end of the list (as is the usual), but if nosliw is going to skip his turn and you're able to take it, go for it.
