I just had a weird brainfart occurrence, I was writing something and I couldn't think of the word.
But the letter 'P' kept popping up in my head, I was visualizing the letter and the sounds it makes over and over.
And then I was thinking 'present', as in 'present yourself to the crowd'. Then I finally figured out the word I was looking for was 'participate'. Which can sometimes be traded in sentences and still make sense. Their meanings are similar in some respects anyways.
Anyone ever have brainfarts like that? Reminded me of the documentary I saw recently that 'Extraordinary People - Brainman' where the guy had crazy brain usage involving numbers and stuff like an autistic but not many of the drawbacks that come with the condition. + Show Spoiler [ if anyone wants to watch it] +
PS- I really hate the term brainfart, but the technical way to say it and it's definition aren't any good imo.

I dont understand why its a fart.
like there is no reason that anything about a farts sound, smell, or physical effect on your body should lead you to believe that if your brain somehow farted that you would be unable to recall important information or say something unintelligent.
maybe like a brain hiccup? brain yawn? brain gag? brain sneeze? brain burp? burp sounds good.
yes i have had brain burps like that.

Brain hiccup, I like that.
|
but brain hiccup has so many syllabes there must be something inbetween the negative sounding fart, and the hiccup which doesn't 'flow' as well.
Just sayin

Interestingly enough the one time this has happened to me where I can specifically recall the exact word that I'd forgotten, it was also the word participate.
|
This happens to me a bit. I can give you the definition to a word but not the word >.< Its frustrating. I've even done it a few times while giving a presentation in a class. Like that word that is excessive.. um to much... crap not again.... starts with an R I think...
Edit: Redunant!!!>.<

Perhaps it has something to do with where (physically) the brain systematically stores things. That's a pretty big coincidence I think.

This use to happen to me alot when I was younger (not anymore though). I would forget how to spell small words like "Of" and "has" for some reason :/

Wow, that video and its subsequent 4 other parts was really interesting, that man is amazing.
Also thank god someone else hates the word 'brainfart', it just annoys me so much.

It's official, Chalie "Brainfart" Murphy.

I'm the same, but its usually with a certain combination of vowels.
Like the word cornea (that I had to look up right now). It took me like an hour to commit the word to memory for an anatomy lab exam. Just this ONE word. I'm not kidding I couldn't remember it. I knew how many letters it had and I knew where it was on the eye. I just couldn't remember the word itself even though I knew what it sounded like. I would say it and write it out a bunch of times, but after 15 minutes I would forget it again.
Its only with certain words though. Probably shouldn't have become a Biology major seeing that it's very vocabulary intensive. :p

I hate the word "pussy" when referring to the vagina. Although I have no problem when someones uses it to describe a man lacking adequate bravery as a "pussy".
Also when I'm watching porn and the guy or girl says "pussy" it instantly becomes a buzz kill. :p

I kinda know what you mean actually. It makes it sound sloppy or dirty or something. But vagina seems so formal and makes me think back to 7th grade sex ed and periods, blehk.
this one girl I knew called it her 'nana'. not really sure why, but possibly for same reasons.
