Nothing is really going to change except that KeSPA is less powerful than before. The proleague teams will still be there. KeSPA needs Blizzard, not the other way around.

Can't wait to see our main man Tasteless hosting that English commentary!

Blizzard should GTFO in my opinion. Granting amnesty to SC1 leagues until August? How about realizing these leagues have been running for many years WITHOUT your help and you leave them the fuck alone. God damn.
Blizzard can make good games but it definitely will not be a good ESPORTS catalyst.

Might want to reread yours first.

All the non-korean SC fans will love this move because of the possibility of Tasteless and Super Daniel casting the games but the quality of Korean casting will most undoubtedly fall. If you've watched PlayXP tournaments for SC2 on GomTV, the casting quality is markedly inferior.

If anything, this is more worrisome for the development of the SC2 scene, what with this new GOMTV model and Blizzard having more control. BW will probably stay the same.
Of course, if SC2 is a smashing success maybe they'll all switch over to the new game, but I could easily see it going the other way -- SC2 has a short run, then eventually dies out and GOM moves on to other things, while OGN and MBC weather the storm and BW stays. BW needs the fans to survive.
SC2 and BW cannot coexist as a pro scene. Either the fans will watch/play SC2 and it will supplant BW, or the fans don't and BW stays.
It seems that for the average player SC2 is very popular, and they may want to see the game they now prefer...who knows though

1. how do you always come to the conclusion that wc3 "died"? yes, it's not that big in korea, but it's a million times more popular than bw in all of europe, china, russia etc. (leaving out the usa cause the only thing that's big there is halo , lol). I get sick of you idiots who have no idea what you're talking about and still babble on endlessly.
2. blizzard has never supported their games good? LOL? You do realize that they hold their own tournaments with huge prize money every year, that they still regularily host leagues and tournaments for WC3 all over the world (not in BW cause the BW battle.net doesn't support it) and that they are by far the only company that releases that many patches for a game that fast?
3. WTF are you talking about? What made Diablo 2 and WoW so awesome that was created by the users? And in SC and War 3: Yeah, there's custom maps, so what? Do you really think without Blizzard we would've just used some Command and Conquer and customized it until it was a super awesome game?
Seriously, you and all Blizzard bashers are huge idiots who forget that Blizzard is BY FAR the most community-friendly company out there. Yes, they're trying to make money off of their franchies, so what? They're no charity. Seriously, guys like you piss me the fuck off.

War3 isn't pro gaming. War3 is world gaming. War3 has no broadcasting culture.
It's not really that difficult to understand.

So Blizzard is going for the jugular in actively trying to kill the BW scene (or at least hamper it through fees) so that SC2 can succeed in exclusivity under GomTV.
The worst thing in this whole situation is that the companies/channels with the most experience and the best chance at making SC2 successful in Korea are not going to be able to do it. And on top of that they're trying to revoke their right to at least broadcast BW. The idea that this may be the last StarLeague season, last season of PL, and then everything is on SC2's shoulders makes me sick.
Fuck all of this. Blizzard is going full on fisticuffs with KeSPA/OGN/MBC and the fans are going to get it up the ass. God dammit.

Asslicking seems to be as well.
edit : god i'm so pissed by all of this.
Blizzard was such a better company back then, running PGL for sc etc. How they have fallen... You guys have fun with your beautiful RTS designed by a MMO team under direct supervision of the maker of one of the worst RTS ever made.

I don't really understand all the implications of this, but I love everything that GOMTV has done in the past so I'm super optimistic.

You have no idea if they can't coexist; you're just making that up. I think KeSPA is using GOMTV as a testing ground for SC2. You'll basically have a subpar Internet TV broadcasting a game with no LAN, obstacles to mapmaking and third party programs and such, while the far more respectable OGN and MBC continue broadcasting BW. If SC2 succeeds in spite of all the obstacles, they could all switch over. If not, it dies out without having interfered with the BW proscene.
KeSPA can't just jettison their existing scene in favor of something that doesn't exist yet, so this would be the smart thing to do. Preserve BW while testing SC2, and if the new game fails, fall back on the older, already established title.
This is of course an optimistic reading of the situation, where I assume that the KeSPA companies are still working together.
|
Well i cant really feel bad for KeSPA since it was pretty messed up for them to sell sc1 broadcasting rights, but I think blizzards demands of KeSPA were a little overboard. This could suck for koreans, but at least we get SDM and Tastless
