I hate monopoles and I think blizzard is going to destroy e-sport. just watch their league system and the achievement system and the fail.net 2.0. kespa made money with a game that they don't own, but they invested much money to get to that point and blizzard is just going to steal all that what kespa made without investing anything.
i think this will be an epic fail like fail.net 2.0. blizzard really thinks they will make the big money with their "exclusive" broadcasting shit. i see these idiots in my inner eye sitting in the headquarter: - "yo we dont find anymore idiots paying to play a senseless game called WoW, how can we make money again?" - "these kespa guys make money with one of our old games, i think its called starcraft 1. just lets steal all these kepsa guys did." - "lets give all rights to gomtv. ok i dont want to think about any concept for marketing our games. lets just take a 50% fee from these gomtv guys" - "but 50% from what? nobody is going to sponsor starcraft 2 teams after fucking with kespa. maybe we should invest in some teams?" - "what??? dude are stupid??? we are blizzard we don't invest, we just make money by doing nothing!!! if we dont make money with e-sport, it has to do die." - "sir, there is a guy on the phone and he says he is from facebook." - "face...what? i dont have time, i must think about making money by doing nothing." - "but sir he is offering money and all we have to do is making kids using their shitty site" - "STFU you idiot! i dont care what they want. just make it. after all they are offering money."

The biggest issue with KeSPA illegally selling Blizzard's intellectual property was that Blizzard could not sue KeSPA because the Korean government refused to deal with Blizzard.
If KeSPA continues to operate SC2 as it did with SC1 and if Blizzard can't stop KeSPA, then we're back to square 1 again. KeSPA still can probably do what they want under Korean law with BW, but it's not the same with SC2 because they removed LAN and you need to deal with international law to play without LAN. If Blizzard ruins the leagues I will never buy anything from them again.
But Blizzard doesn't. They just want what is rightfully theirs.
And I truly believe that in the end this will be settled ok, there is a business and money to be made and some managers certainly made a good buck from running this. They'll want to continue this, even with a share now going to Blizzard.
And honestly? With the fantastic article on the lifes of Starcraft players, you'll want a decent shakedown for their sake. Maybe an organisation that actually cares for players beyond the top of the crop. If people in other sports were treated as badly as Starcraft players, people would have stopped trying to go pro a long time ago, aside from the very desperate.
That's what I really want from this whole fiasco, a better life for players. Better start praying.

You know starcraft pro players are free to do other things right? They can quit playing SC and go to a university to study or take up a trade. No one is putting a gun to their heads and forcing them to play Starcraft against their will.

I hope KeSPA gets whats coming to them and that the Korean government upholds the contract. God, this is such a long time coming. Maybe we'll be able to see professional players chat in-game again. -_-

So kespa is basically what hollywood was in the 1950:ies. The studios more or less owned the moviestars and dictated what they could do also taking in huge sums of what was basically the movie stars money. Cant help but feel that this, in one way or the other, hopefully changes the situation for the better. But as always with power comes corruption sooner or later so'll just have to wait and see.

Wtf I just uninstalled my gomplayer! :D
AND THIS IS SO UNDESCRIBABLY AWESOME!
|
this is fantastic news. power to the players and now sc2 can truly be a global esport.

I have a bad feeling about this.... >.<

I hope this means we get to see Tasteless commentating again.

As long as the BW scene remains as it is, I'm happy. Couldn't care less about SC2, so there they can do whatever they want.
|
This will either be fantastic or fucking terrible.
Tasteless was saying something about future commentary in his recent beta talk with Artosis, perhaps it`s connected?
On a side note I think people slightly over exaggerate the importance of this on BW scene. They will most likely just pay Blizzard, of course considering they won`t win the lawsuit which I can`t see not happening. Though there is a chance that they will neither win the lawsuit nor pay for broadcasting rights if they don`t see it as profitable. Hopefully BW stays the way it was.

Yeah well there's a very slim chance after August you'll be able to watch too many serious BW tournaments. If OGN and MBC negotiate with Gom/Blizz they'll probably have to start favoring SC2 over BW.
I'm going to try to stay positive and say that I believe Blizzard might just be able to make everything stay as before but the game changes and the teams get different.

A few things to consider:
1. Everything that's now happening with StarCraft II already happened with WarCraft III before and right after release. It also was a brand new exciting game with new graphics, new B.net features, new editor and so on so forth. It had LAN, 4 Realms. Blizzard swore they would add custom maps to the roster, - you know what happened later, the game basically died after 2-3 years, now HoN + Dota are 10 times more popular. (btw War 3 didn't sell that well either).
2. Blizzard has never ever done anything to properly support any of their games with the exception of WoW. Patches were always late and buggy, they never updated or reworked Battle.net, next to 0 counter-abuse and all the rest of it.
3. Everything that was done around Diablo II, StarCraft, War III and partially WoW was done by community using an open source element put in all those games and/or resources around the game, it was done by community only and never supported by Blizzard in any way, often attempted to destroy by the same old Blizz.
Verdict: Blizzard makes decent (some say great) games, which is more than true. However, they are completely useless as community organizers, activists or supporters, - the role they've taken onto themselves in the past and failed miserably, the role they are taking onto themselves once again: from all the B.net 2.0/Editor/Publishing/Lan/Realms/Private Data limitations to all the GOM/KeSPA stuff. They simply do not know how it's done.

Jesus Christ.
There's a very slim chance this will turn out even remotely well for the SC community as a whole.

Thanks for the translation! Awesome =]

i never said that sc2 is a bad game, but i don't believe that they are working on this game since 6 years or whatever they said. maybe they are working since a long time on a concept how to make as much money as possible with sc2 and future games but not on the game itself. i'm sure that things like chatchannels, voicechat, a way to add friends without facebook/e-mail, replays together etc will be premium features and you will have to pay for it. they can't make money with monthly fees for an RTS, cause nobody is going to pay it but they can try to make money by making the interface as annoying as possible without effecting the gameplay itself. just remember in one of the older patches they asked the betatesters to use the voicechat for testing purposes but with the friends add thing they just deactivate it to force people to use more real ID and facebook adds, without officially asking the testers to use it more? and after mass nerdrage in their boards they just make some stupid excuse "its just a test and we can make whatever we want". if someone hasn't a facebook id he isnt going to make a facebook id just to add some guys in an online beta game rofl and adding people with email was happening anyway in like 50% so why deactivating that feature? maybe just to see how far they can go with it?
maybe i'm just retarded (in fact i am rofl) but all this moves by blizzard are so strange (we are trying to make chatting better and channels wont be available at release). this blizzard isnt the blizzard that made starcraft 1!

So Blizzard doesn't want to make 'excessive' profits. Just very large ones I assume
|
I can't see this ending well and I can only foresee MBC, OGN, and Kespa fighting this agreement as hard as they can.
|
Thanks for the translation, very interesting
I can't speculate on whether this will be good or bad for anyone at the mo because I don't see any actual details at all yet, but I'm sure they will come out in due time.
