They were the only ones actively trying to market SC to an international audience and they deserve this reward. If MBC and OGN cannot make as much money in the past, they can blame it on themselves and KESPA, with this deal they could still be allowed to market SC as an esport and that is more than a generous deal coming from Blizzard. yeah that would be nice, but i think gom will take fees. i mean how will they pay blizzard otherwise and i am sure they have to pay blizzard for the "exclusive rights" otherwise kespa would have just made the deal with blizzard. in the end its all about the money.

I don't see this as threatening Brood War broadcasting at all. Even though those rights are mentioned in the OP, Blizzard already disaproves of what KeSPA has been doing with Brood War and has done everything in their power to stop them. This doesn't change anything in that regard.

If Blizzard ruins the leagues I will never buy anything from them again. How do you need international law to play without LAN? Blizzard doesn't own the internet. Unless they decide to ban all Korean IPs from connecting to BNet, how can Blizzard stop KeSPA from doing whatever they want with SC2?

Everything that's now happening with StarCraft II already happened with WarCraft III before and right after release. It also was a brand new exciting game with new graphics, new B.net features, new editor and so on so forth. It had LAN, 4 Realms. Blizzard swore they would add custom maps to the roster, - you know what happened later, the game basically died after 2-3 years, now HoN + Dota are 10 times more popular. (btw War 3 didn't sell that well either). 2. Blizzard has never ever done anything to properly support any of their games with the exception of WoW. Patches were always late and buggy, they never updated or reworked Battle.net, next to 0 counter-abuse and all the rest of it. 3. Everything that was done around Diablo II, StarCraft, War III and partially WoW was done by community using an open source element put in all those games and/or resources around the game, it was done by community only and never supported by Blizzard in any way, often attempted to destroy by the same old Blizz. Verdict: Blizzard makes decent (some say great) games, which is more than true. However, they are completely useless as community organizers, activists or supporters, - the role they've taken onto themselves in the past and failed miserably, the role they are taking onto themselves once again: from all the B.net 2.0/Editor/Publishing/Lan/Realms/Private Data limitations to all the GOM/KeSPA stuff. They simply do not know how it's done.

but who of us can say that they were truly happy with kespa? i think things can only get better from now on. if they will, though, will still depend on kespa. if they go on zealot mode over this things could turn out ugly, but that would also make them hypocrites. win-win situation for me. GO TASTELESS!!!!!!!

People outside Korea don't give a shit about Esports. They don't even know what the fuck it is. And Blizzard is exactly same in that respect. They have not the slightest clue. And I never liked GOM either. (Nothing against Tasteless). Also, I wish TL news writers make a news post on Korean pro gaming, because it seems with the recent influx of new people, most of people posting in SC2 forums have no clue what Pro gaming is, how Korea is and how esport scene works. Actually explaining all this to most people posting in this thread would be very beneficial. It's starting to get extreemly annoying, seeing any random westerner coming here and giving his opinion thinking he knows.

They didn't know about half the SCBW mechanics and techniques used today, most of them are just bugs; not once have they properly balanced a game, SCBW was balanced by custom maps and mechanics, War III still isn't, same goes for Diablo II, WoW (in a way) and so on. Plus, not to forget an awful support for every single game with the exception of WoW. You assume that they didn't decide which bugs were beneficial and which were disadvantageous. If you look at the patch notes they did fix a lot of bugs and decided not to fix the ones you that you claim are in the game in spite of their design. I feel that you underestimate their involvement in the content of the game.

Whether you like it or not (and for better or worse) Starcraft is Blizzard's IP and theirs alone. Blizzard have every right to want full control over THEIR product, and KeSPA has absolutely no claim to it whatsoever. The shit has hit the fan because of KeSPA. Blizzard gave them a chance to work with them, but for whatever knucklehead reason thought they could continue to make money off of Starcraft without the IP holder's consent. And for those who say Blizzard is just in this for the money - guess what? So is KeSPA. The only sure thing to come out of this is this battle is going to be bad for e-Sports in Korea, but I don't blame Blizzard for acting like a business. I blame KeSPA for acting like a illegitimate one.

If anything, this is more worrisome for the development of the SC2 scene, what with this new GOMTV model and Blizzard having more control. BW will probably stay the same. Of course, if SC2 is a smashing success maybe they'll all switch over to the new game, but I could easily see it going the other way -- SC2 has a short run, then eventually dies out and GOM moves on to other things, while OGN and MBC weather the storm and BW stays.

Blizzard got their shair of the pie, either way, kespa can choose between less profit and no profit.
