I've had the unfortunate circumstance of falling into this category.
This has become a very disappointing happenstance for a few reasons: 1. I made my post and video with the belief that those who are truly deserving of the keys, regardless of self-nomination or not, will be chosen by the TL staff. This would not be so disappointing if the decision were not handed over to 2. The other self-nominators. There were toooons of people who posted only once, in order to secure a nomination for themselves in that thread. I have to agree with the majority of the TL community that this is an incredibly selfish thing to do if proper reasoning for the key was not given. (Hot_Bid did say he will add a rule for this though) And then that brings 3. There's a very good possibility that many of the people who take themselves off the roster may simply do so because they want to set a good image for themselves. Being a "self-nominator" has grown a negative connotation in virtually less than a 2 minute span of time. Maintaining your position in this roster of people is almost not worth the key, simply because of the scorn by your fellow members. Does anybody really want to "win" the self-nominator drawing? I can't tell if the community will feel any less malicious toward these people than they probably do now.
Despite my sorrows, I have to hand it to Hot_Bid for creating such a ridiculously hilarious, bittersweet scenario. Something strange about me is that I'm a huge fan of irony and ridiculous circumstance haha.
But alas, it is a sad day indeed! I plan on keeping myself on there for the time being because I have faith in my original intentions. You guys are free to discover them on page 28 of the original thread if you so desire. And in the eventuality that I do not get a key, I shall continue with my plans as to the best of my ability.
Note: I highly appreciate all of the people who are taking themselves off the list for purely selfless reasons. You guys are the real reason TL is awesome. (Besides all the other awesome stuff anyway )

Yeah, I feel the same way. The OP said it was ok to nominate yourself if you feel you deserve it, and I honestly felt that way. I didn't expect to get so much crap for it. I also thought that there was no way I'd get a nomination unless I nominated myself because I hadn't done anything to make myself stand out here at TL. I was surprised when I saw that the UCLA CSL team manager nominated me.
Anyway, I figured in the end it'd be better to just step back, so I took myself out about 10 minutes ago.

It is alot different if you have made contributions and people have missed it compared to those who have done nothing.
people mainly getting ragged on are the low posters who have appeared out of no where with nothing to stand behind. But everyone is getting lumped into one category while only some are the target of the mockery.

Well, if I don't get the key, nobody does, so I'm not taking myself out of the list ;D! (yes, I'm selfish, that's one of the reasons I nominated myself in the first place!)

took myself because i believe in karma (i surf a lot and don't eat shark - i also have not been eaten by a shark) maybe tomorrow i check battle.net and be suprised :D

your proof of karma is riveting
for me i know it exists because i play a lot of pokemon and don't eat charizard. coincidentally i have not been eaten by a charizard.

I feel that other people would enjoy the key way more than me, I'll be super busy this summer so

Well, I just looked through that whole nomination thread and posted who I thought deserved them above the others in the retribution thread.

GL to you! I really did regret doing that self-nomination thing, when I went back to see if I can edit it out but, it was closed. The temptation of having a luck/easy opportunity to win a key got me :p. One day, I'll get one of the damn keys! O_O!

Why not just link to your post in that thread? To be honest, if someone really is deserving, they WILL be nominated, if their deeds simply weren't visible enough to TL.net posters, well then, they certainly weren't deserving, were they. Even the people who work in the background on tl are widely known and respected, the writers, bluenames, the FuDDx's, etc.

Very true, that is how I felt. There are lots of people who want a key like me that haven't done much for the community. Then, I thought of all the people who actually do tons for this site and they still don't have a key. They're the ones that deserve it.

There's still nothing wrong with nominating yourself if you think you deserve it. But do you really think you deserve it over 95% of the other people? People can write whatever crap they want, they can say they'll stream non-stop, or provide commentary, help the community, or whatever else, but its probably bullshit. People should be judged by what they've done, not by their intentions.
I didn't read your reasoning, so I don't know if you deserve it or not, but I really like how you said you made a video. At least you showed how sincere you were about this to the community.

Officially opted out. Feeling pretty good actually. I think it was like page 43 or something.
Anyways, I'm really curious as to how this all turns out.

It was weird, I nominated Vesitge, saying that I felt I already get a lot more out of TL than I do, but my name is still in the list of self nominators.
Opted out.

i'm actually surprised that only 150 people nominated themselves. I would have expected like 500. I mean, why NOT do it? there's no risk. Just don't expect anything from it.
