My brother's crappy no-name PSU finally died yesterday, not to mention his PC had sufficient particles to create a dust storm.
Anyway,I want to replace it ASAP and coincidentally newegg(the nearest supplier and cheapest) is out of low wattage Earthwatts PSUs. And low wattage PSUs are pretty below average in quality nowadays. :/
I know its a budget ancient PC and getting a half-assed PSU wouldnt effect it much but Im a bit stingy. Doesnt have to be modular.
Cant remember the all the parts just out of my head but...
Intel P4 8400GS A couple 80 or 40mm fans 2 DVD drives/Floppy 250GB IDE HDD 1GB DRR2 800 Mobo is some ancient Asus model.
edit: This should work well?

Was gonna go buy a Rosewill...

iv almost always go for the Corsair 450VX in a budget computer......works like a charm and very reliable.
|
Corsair 400w. Why 450? No need for that.
|
tell me why when i saw this (the shortened version on the blog section on the left) and i saw "PSU Recomme..." I thought this was about Pennsylvania State University recommendations or something lol
|
Something around 400w by Antec / Seasonic / Corsair / etc ...
|
Intel P4 8400GS a 300w psu would do for that 350w if you have like 5 hard drives and 4 stick of ddr ram or something lol
8400gs is max draw of 75w max draw of a.e p4 you have isn't one of those ancient ones so i'll just say 125w only 1g of ddr2 so i even give it as 2 sticks 30w 3 case fans is like 10w 2 hdds is like 50w 1 dvd-rom drive is like 30w 75w+125+30+50+30+10 = 316 even has been rounded up by alot
i would guess you p4 is more like 85w and the 8400gs is like 71w
So a good 300w or a 350w would do just fine
The one you listed would be just fine

Whats with the ridiculous shipping charges. -.-

I was gonna get the OEM product since I didnt need any power cables. Guess I'll just go with the Corsair, even though 400W seems like overkill. Thanks!

Got both the Corsair and Earthwatts 650 for about $100 + Free shipping.
And 1 day estimated shipping from New Jersey. Cant get any better.

Just spent 2 hours rerouting wires and cables for my PC. Regret not buying a modular one instead of Earthwatts. It honestly looks like Im trying to rig a explosive device in there, at least wrap the wires Antec. :/
My little brother's PC doesnt seem to power on, must be something wrong with the power button cables or something. Dont know how to open up the front panel. -.- And I totally forgot his case was smaller than a regular tower the PSU fits but the wiring will take some work. Though its not as bad since they gave him extra strings and the cables are all wrapped.

just buy zip ties
they make cable management easy kinda sorta
|
I cant figure out why his power button doesnt work, any ideas? His case is so old and bootleg the connector is 2-pin, I can still fit it in 4-pin cables though. The mobo light is on, so the PSU works fine but I dont know... Time to replace the case? :/
|
You sure the power cable thingy from case to mobo (ionno if that has a real name lol) is plugged in right? not crossing + with - on the power button, most times it's labeled the + has a small triangle on the back side of it. It's not dangerous to cross wires when you don't boot it up but lol do that to the like usb and you'll melt the wires or worse lol.
