The Observer and the Science Vessel
The Terran and Protoss armies have allied themselves, and the Observer and the Science Vessel often hang out together.
Observer: I really like you! I don’t have many friends since not many can even see me, let alone understand me, but you seem to be able to!
Science Vessel: Don’t be so humble. You’re much older and experienced than I am, I have a lot to learn from you. I’m really envious of your cloaking – you can fly at will across and over any number of enemy troops, whereas I’m always in danger of being shot down.
Observer: The secret to surviving is simple.
Science Vessel: Hmm?
Observer: Don’t stick your nose in everywhere. When you’re in our business, the most important thing is to provide sight and information, but never attack yourself. Don’t draw attention to yourself.
Science Vessel: Ah, really? But then we’re not contributing that much to the troops…
Observer: We’re just scouts after all. And besides, we even provide detection. It’s not like they pay you anything spectacular, right? Haven’t you seen Animal Kingdom? The first rule is that as scientists and observers, we cannot interfere with the natural order.
The Observer is a veteran, and has been experiencing battles three minutes before the Science Vessel even joined in the war. Beyond gathering information, he just floats above all, aloof and alone. No matter how vicious the battle, he never extends a helping hand.
Once, on a patrol mission, they encountered a tank being surrounded by Hydralisks. The Science Vessel was eager to help, and wanted to join in the fray immediately. The Observer stopped him. “What are you trying to do? Hydralisks are anti-air, they’ll attack you! Besides, look at how many of them, there’s nothing you can do to help. Just leave him.”
Seeing the tank on the verge of death, the Vessel couldn’t control himself, and threw down a D-Matrix. “I just want to give him some more stalling time to wait for the reinforcements.”
The Observer seemed derisive. “Pfft, what a waste.”
Another time, a Lurker was dropped into the Protoss mineral lines. The Zealots in the area were unable to attack, and the base was thrown into chaos. The Observer and Vessel got there, and the Observer just remained motionless. The Vessel asked “what’s happening? Why is he still attacking, aren’t we providing detection?”
“Yep, but no one’s attacking. Must be on hold or something. Meh.” The Observer casually replied.
As he finished talking, he saw the Vessel Irradiate the Lurker. With a dying scream, it disappeared.
“That was pretty simple, no?” The now drained Vessel said, panting.
“That was none of your business!” the Observer angrily noted.
As the war progressed, the battles became more and more intense. As the allied troops began attacking the enemy home base, all of enemy forces are counterattacking. Both sides are suffering heavy casualties.
Seeing the Vessel about to move out, the Observer lectured to stop him “Are you stupid, do you want to join in again? You can’t do anything in such huge battle. You just have a couple of Irradiates, and maybe protect a few units. Besides, you have no cloaking, all of the enemy fire will be concentrated on you!”
“I can help, I have the energy. I can’t just stand here and do nothing.” The Vessel has shed his usual polite attitude. He seemed determined, and coldly looked at the Observer as he prepared to leave for the front lines.
“What can you do to help? The war’s not won with one person! And if you get shot down, we don’t even have detection. As long as we conserve our for-”
“You’re just afraid of death!” the Vessel suddenly grew bolder. “Observer-hyung, I’ve wanted to say this to you a long time ago. You were right, the army has given me no special treatment. But even if I work for nothing, I can’t be just like you, and only think about personal benefits. The energy that the commander has given me isn’t meant to sit here in the back, doing nothing. We live only once – go big or go home. Besides, in the world of Starcraft, we have no purpose besides war. Observer-hyung, this will be the last time we speak. From now on, I will pretend that I can’t see you, just like how no one else can see you either!”
And with that the Vessel, flew away, straight for the battlefield, and threw down a beautiful EMP.
The Observer remained where he was, stunned, and watched his only friend fly away. “You fool…did you really think I don’t want to help? I CAN’T help…”
The Vessel’s words touched on the deepest pain of the Observer. Watching the distant battle, two streams of tears rolled down his face.

That was number three, number four is about Mutalisks and Guardians, my personal favorite. Whee. I think I'll get that later tonight. Need to go rage at chem lab for a bit now.
