FINALLY installed that shit. Played the 'practice' or w/e 5 matches... just went 4-1. My only loss was against eVaDe, pretty sure it's the same evade from BW. The other people seemed pretty much like scrubs and the games were insanely easy.
- I'm kinda curious: is it just me or do most of the maps seem island-like? I.E, I can't scout them with my probe and I have to wait until I get an obs? Or is the pathing fucked?
- What is this "mineral mechanic" some shit with an obelisk people are talking about? How does that work...
- How viable is FE as protoss in games vs real players? I pretty much just went FE every single game (since I was under the impression most of the maps seem like islands) except the last game where I dropped 4 dt's and killed his CC before he reacted.
- The game in general seems pretty lacking in micro - it doesn't seem to have the same effect as in SC, for example it seems to me like battles are designed for you to watch the pretty lasers rather than micro your troops around. It is far more difficult to control individual units in SC2 than in SC.
Anyways - these are my thoughts oo!

they're only island because ur playing on the noob versions of the maps, once you get past 10 games the destructible neutral buildings will be gone
|
The "Novice" maps have destructible terrain blocking everything to 'prevent rushing.'
You stop playing the "Novice" maps after you leave Practice league.
The 'Toss macro mechanic is Chrono Boost and it's on your Nexus. Costs 25 energy, can save up to 100, and is cast on a building. The building it's cast on has 50% increase in unit production or research.

How do I actually use chrono boost? Do I click chrono boost then click my nexus and then probes give me more money or what? I tried clicking on probes, on the group, on the pylon.. didn't work.

THIS.
I find some of the most micro I have is simply like slightly dancing my army in battle which probably just makes them fire slower... Every Sc2 major battle seems to be just attack moving and whoever has the better unit combination wins. at least thats what I've felt in the limited games I've played. I've spent more time reading what all the upgrades do and trying to understand tech trees during games than actually playing though lool.

Select Nexus, press C, select a target (has to be a building). That building now builds units/researches faster for 30(?) seconds. Leads to shenanigans in 2v2 when you boost your partner's tech.
|
Watching some of Nony's placement matches was sooo boring, I couldn't even finish the rest of them.
However, I think these noob maps are a great opportunity to just build the whole tech tree and check all the units out while simply outmacroing your opponent.

it seems like it's lacking in micro because you don't know the game, and neither do most of the people playing it yet. in the games i've had vs. good people, micro definitely matters, as does positioning/flanking. it only seems like a myunitbeatsyourunit because that's all people know so far. that being said, 75% of the games will be vs. bad people so micro doesn't matter much.

Huh I never played Island matches, my first 10 games were all on the same standard maps, without any blocking terrain.
Regarding micro I feel the same. The only thing I really micro are ling surrounds and burrow roaches.

lol that novice map detail is hilarious. so when i try out my first 10 maps i can just FE and rush mothership carrier lololol

From watching lots of streams and replays I also get the strong feeling that micro is seriously seriously lacking in sc2 Nothing even close to something like broodwar ZvT lurker defiler ling vs medic marine tank or big PvT battles, where someone with great micro can destroy the other's army completely while someone with poor micro would get his whole army annihilated.

agreed and to add some thing, i see that the games are oriented more to play 1base i see that FE looks to risky,
well at least beta its oriented to fix those things but lets make a list of what blizzard have to fix
1- voices noise aren`t like SC1 they sound pretty artificial for example Zealot sound like a Wc3 ocr Fighter
2- units just clump together no matter what u have, its difficult to distingish units from others 3- theres no micro i just see on the streams 1a2a3a nothing else
|
sc1 started out just the same way. it was suicide to try and FE in the early days.
|
no one understands the units enough right now to really "micro" like lategame defiler/lurker/lings..
And ever think that if people cant FE because its too "risky"... That is attributed to.. Micro? In SC1, theres no risk because all anyone ever has in the first 3 mins is lings marines or zealots.. in SC2, they can surprise you with something stronger like stalker/sentry or reapers/roaches.. meaning you cant just build 2 cannons and defend everything for the first 15 minutes like in SC1.

What's up with all these mandatory unranked/no points games I have to play?
First there was the 5 game 'warm up' thing, now the 10 prerank matches or w/e ...these games are retardedly easy T___T

i never had a warm up thing. first 10 games were palcement matches. When you first click Multiplayer it asks if you're an RTS veteran, newbie, or something inbetween. I selected veteran so maybe that's why? did you pick the middle or newbie one? lol

There is a skip button for the first 5 game warmups, after that the results of the 10 prerank lead to what league you get stuck in after. If you go 9-1 or 8-2 at least you will go into platinum league with the pros!
