I've never heard of this so I did some Google searches. There are a lot of people saying that you get food poisoning from this (but not saying how) and then there are a few people saying that it's a myth. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a scientific article on this. I've microwaved Mayo for about 1 minute and I was fine. Maybe I was just lucky.

The main thing that pisses me off about fast food places is that the lettuce (and tomatoes) is 8 times out of 10 really bad. It's either unripe, way too much, way too little, or just old.
It's especially bad at Jack N The Box and Carl's Jr. They almost always give this white/yellowish spine of lettuce that can't even stay on the burger because it's all hard and tastes like shit. JntB has the nastiest yellow mayonaise (tastes more like that salad dressing miracle whip shit) as well.
I usually take out the bad lettuce and use it to wipe off the ungodly amount of mayo off the burger.
If you ask for light mayo they put like none, so you gotta make it yourself.
BoT, out of all the popular fast food burger places I'd put BK near the top though.
(i've never eaten at Sonic, I'm sure that would be near the top. And I don't think White Castle is in Cali)
Wendy's In N out Burger King Carl's Jr. (Hardees) Jack In The Box Dairy Queen McDonalds
can't recall A&W burgers

well, if you microwave mayo bacteria builds up in it very quickly, much quicker than normal, so you have to be sure to eat it fast if you do it. . the alternative is very horrible food poisoning; possibly spending your last moments puking in a hospital. if you want to PM me i'll theory craft with you more on this topic, though.

That's just a myth, dude. Basically, mayo is eggs and oil, both can be heated.
It's just gonna taste like shit, that's it. But yeah, I guess you're right, bacterias might build up faster that way also.

I call shenanigans. I see no reason why microwaved mayonnaise is any more dangerous than warm mayonnaise. If anything, it should be safer.
The 3 second rule is probably way more dangerous bacteriawise.

WAIT DO PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT MICROWAVED MAYONAISE CAN KILL YOU?
it's just one of those stupid jokes that people say because microwaved mayo tastes like shit and it turns all clear and hard and nasty (it'll kill you metaphorically speaking).
Kinda along the same lines as putting a penny in your mouth to stop a breathalyzer (shit doesn't work at all, it's just a cruel joke on the drunk).
Or even that humans swallow X amount of bugs/spiders/flies while they sleep. Perpetuated bullshit.

That's what I was thinking when I was doing the Google searches. But I rarely eat mayonnaise and I've never microwaved it, so I don't know what it looks like or tastes like -- but a few people mentioned it gets gross and I figured maybe that's where the myth was born from.
Searches came up with people saying that microwaving it is akin to leaving a sandwich with mayonnaise out in the sun for a few hours -- which doesn't make sense to me and confused me.

It's a well-known enough myth that they actually teach you at BK not to do it. They don't say why.

if you're that confident about it, microwave some mayo on a burger for a minute and eat it. make sure to get a good amount on there.
post back with results if you havent puked on your keyboard

I've microwaved mayo on a ham and cheese sandwich. Thought it had like a thousand island flavor. I might have toasted it.

Interesting...keep posting these I like them.

Have you ever heard of the idea of hot food and cold condiments? It just tastes better. That's why they do it. (Also microwaving mayonnaise ruins it very quickly, if not right out. It doesn't cause food poisoning.

yea and also it is possible that the molecules in the mayo super heat way faster than the rest of the food. I dunno

ex-BK worker here. The only thing I cannot find to emulate was the sauce used to make the delicious spicy wraps (I was not employed there at that time, thankfully). I have been told it is a type of southwest sauce but all my attempts failed at finding that specific taste.

Also, Carls Jr is fucking awesome.

Man, everyone I knew who had been to In N Out or lived in Cali had built it up to be this monument to fast food done right. I went there twice and unless I just got really unlucky then it is a barely improved McDonalds. Fast food gets old quick but I'd put them in categories.
"Good" Fast Food Five Guys Chick-Fil-A Sonic (This can vary wildly like anything I guess) Culvers (burger can be hit or miss)
"Run of the Mill" Fast Food Burger King Wendys Carls Jr Whataburger
TERRIBLE Fast Food(redundant ;P) McDonalds In N Out Jack in the Box Dairy Queen
Thanks for the idea, maybe I'll try it someday ;O!
