After many years of playing starcraft I joined a clan. For real. I mean, in the past I have joined many clans; in fact about 50-60, but mostly I just tried to humiliate the recruiters and never be seen again. Anyway; the clan turned out to be pretty good; but few months later 1) best terran player got sponsored and quit 2) good/best protoss player got sponsored and quit 3) good/best protoss(?) player was the only one playing bwcl consistently, thus he decided to quit 4) good/best zerg saw that 1,2 and 3 quit, so he went inactive
Basically the whole 1v1 lineup died; and one of the good 2v2 players quit. It is good and bad. On one part people like me can play in clan wars, which leads to terrible resutls (like 3-7 in matches); but on the other hand it's just constant deteriration.
We have really many players but most of them are randoms who dont really talk on the channel and are C tops. Myself I am C- tops, so I shouldnt complain (ok, maybe Im C+ in ZvZ, but I never face zerg opponents in 1v1); but Ive started to wonder; how can we recruit better players?
Is there any way, apart from rising them? And no, we dont want to sponsor anyone.

Make your clan do something big that figuratively paints red arrows pointing toward your clan name when someone thinks about it
|
Unless you have something to offer them that they can't get somewhere else... you're probably not gonna get top players Although you can try to lure them in with peanut butter. Then trap them once they're there

Pay the 10ish dollars for the adspot on teamliquid.

Barely understand the OP, half the content is not even related to the topic.
From what I gather you want players better than yourself to join your clan, which will rarely ever happen. Nobody wants to join a team where the players are worse because the joiner won't improve. The only reason a better player would join a lower-leveled team is the opportunity to get sponsored/make money.
You can only expect to get people who are your level or slightly lower to join.

Other clans have sponsorships to offer.
You, have nothing.
Other players go to other clans --> the other clan also now has better players (skillwise) to offer as well.
You, still have nothing.

Technically my clan is in a really high bwcl division; around 5-15 people ask to join weekly, most of them are pretty bad though; we also have around 10-20 active members daily.
This would be the "selling point"
I dont really understand why would anyone go to a "good clan", just to be a B-teamer that never plays; which leads me to the question if I really want to recruit better people : -)

C player wants to join a clan. He sees your clan and he sees another clan. Youre clan is very active withi other C-, C players. The other clan is B+/A- players, but they are occasionally on. Who would you rather play with to learn more? People your own skill level or ppl who are much higher than you and can help you more?

What is your clan called?

if you have iccup you dont really need a clan IMO... I have never seen anyone who would in fact practice with the clan mates; unless he was friends with them
most of the sponsored clans are a bunch of people who just come to the CW and dissapear 10minutes later
Im takling about "middle clans", say lower than IG. Not division 1..

I'm C- korean-american and so are 2 of my friends.
Both of them are very fluent in korean and they chat up some people online in korean channel.
within a week, we have a former b-teamer on a progamer team who reached rank A before, 2 B-'s, and several C+'s in our clan.
We've already beaten clans such as Kwark's clan and others within the first week of recruiting rofl.
Yea I will learn korean just to recruit some idiots who dont even speak english and probably wont visit the forum. Not that I even think that what you wrote is real
You act as if korean players were gods or something; sorry to tell you that - most progamers play like crap, that's why they dont release the replays; and when you see the reps they often arent that far away from some random A iccup player (doesnt even have to be korean). Ok there are few exceptions witht the top progamers; but they still arent that great. Also how did you recruit them exactly? Pretended to be a girl and offered to suck their dicks? Do they even talk to you and play with you? Also, what do progamers have to do with searching for medicore players?
Good clans dont need koreans to play for them; also C+/B level can be achieved by like 15-20% of iccup players as far as I remember. Our current best player has a steady C+ rank methinks and wins vs anyone from the "semi good" clans.
I will also add that there were like 150+ progamers (Id risk saying that above 300 including all the B-teamers during all these years), and a progamer who cant achieve A+ sounds like some crappy practice partner. So go ahead and boast about beating Kwark (who the fuck is he anyway?).

Generally you need to be good yourself to get players to join your clan Nobody wants to join a clan with a bunch of terrible players. It would just feel like a waste of life and time.
Clans should be based on friendships in my opinion. And friendships in StarCraft are only built when you play people of similar skill level to you, or who are at least a good time. Otherwise there is basically no motivation to play with people you don't know, don't like, and who are bad at SC.
Optionally you can try to play in a more structured environment like CSL or whatever where people are on a team based on proximity and location, rather than because they want to win or get better.

I know that argueing with random spawns on internet boards will definitely not get me any players, but the comments of the guy quoted below are so stupid that I had to reply to them.
Does anyone know a way to get decent players? Being in a nice clan war division doesnt seem to help.
On January 18 2010 10:07 krndandaman wrote: Well I gave you a solution, I don't really care if you don't like it.
They are not gods, they are just much better than the general public as a whole typically. "Progamers play like crap" - isn't that an oxymoron? Rofl.
He did achieve A+, he was rank #7 on the iccup ladder 5 years ago. He had to go for military service so he took a 4year hiatus from starcraft.
Kwark is a B+ guy, and his clan has Avi-Love (Know him from TSL?) even though Avi didnt play, i'd still say our performance is rather impressive for a new clan.
Dude I'm korean, my friends are korean, we're bi-lingual. So I don't mind if they only speak Korean to me. And why can't good clans have koreans? I thought koreans were nothing special according to you?
If its that easy to find C+/B level players, go ahead. You seem to have a good idea of making a good clan, go do it. Why ask for help here?
It's really hard to reply to your post without calling you a fucking idiot. Basically you told me that in order to recruit C+/B players I need to learn Korean. You also believe that learning this pretty obscure (and useless) language can be done in reasonable time (dunno, 2 months? 6 months LOL) which only shows the level of your ignorance.
Then you brag that your clan beat Kwark (who the fuck is Kwark?) who is a B+ guy (so basically random player). and that your clan beat Avi-Love who also seems to be a noone. And no, I dont know him from TSL, despite the fact that he qualified. Congratulations on beating some no-names. I dont think you need a progamer to do that.
