As we say farewell to the ’00s – there’s a lot to be thankful for. We survived eight years of Bush without entering the ’10s living in some kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland. That’s pretty good. The scariest bad guys are now little old men in suits with names like “Bernie” rather than crack cocaine drug lords. Not too bad. Angelina Jolie survived the decade looking just as good as when we left the ’90s. Life is looking up.
But in these special times, as we turn the page on the ’00s there’s something else we should be thankful for: possibly the greatest decade of musical genius since the 1960’s and Beatlemania. So here’s my tribute to this wonderful decade we leave behind us with a Top 3 Greatest Musical Moments of the 00’s list.
#3 – Dragonstea Din Tei – O-Zone (2004)
The ’00s were when the world learned its first words of Romanian. Not since Latin became a fad in the 3rd century, A.D., has been learning a new language been so hip. The gentleman in the video below speaks for the zeitgeist of the day – that joy we felt as human beings broadening our lingual palette – as the words “numa, numa” first started rolling off tongues all over the world.
#2 – DotA – Basshunter (2006)
One of the most important cultural shifts of the 00’s was the ascension of video games over television as the world’s favorite way to waste time. In an even more unlikely turn of events – gamers actually became sort of cool. As a proud gamer, and as a professional making games myself, I look towards musical idols to prove conclusively how cool, indeed, we gamers have now become. Basshunter speaks for all gamers: “witness and tremble, ye obsolete TV-watchers, at the rise of the gamer as someone totally happening.”
#1 – Ding Dong Song – Gunther (2004)
In the 00’s the world saw the arrival of over a billion new people, the most ever in a decade since the beginning of time. The Malthusian Catastrophe postulated in the 18th century didn’t pan out and the new babies just kept coming. Whether we trust today’s scientists or not, most of them now attribute this phenomenal baby boom to a single, mullet-armed Swede named Gunther.
This reminded me how mainstream gamers have become. Today I was getting a haircut and the barber told me her son had been to a LAN party with everyone in his football team this weekend. Everyone is playing computer games nowadays.
It's time for E-sports.
Edit: Forgot to comment on Günther! He's fucking amazing lol! I miss the early 00's

While we're looking back at '00 boomers, these need to be mentioned that I can think of just now, nothing comes close to gunther thou, especially beeing on MTV with that song lol:
I realize the thread is lighthearted so this isn't a direct response, but in my humble opinion the 90's were soooooo much better musically than the 00's. The mp3 did wonders for music distribution but was extremely detrimental to the music itself.
I would like to know if there was any 'decade' in music where people actually liked it WHILE it was happening.
I bet people in the 70s said the music sux. Same with 60s, 80s, 90s. Like it or not, the music is just the reflection of the consciousness on earth.
Teenagers, which most of us aren't anymore, dictate what is mainstream/cool imo. Those same teenagers will 5 years from now be saying how music in the 10s suck and how 00s were awesome compared to the crap they hear today.

I'm pretty sure the 60's and the 90's loved their music.

He probably means that mainstream stuff have never been THAT bad.
