Well since I have some downtime at work, I felt like it would be appropriate to make a blog about the life of Xeris recently. I've been making so many BW blogs (like WAY more than usual), I don't wanna make it seem like I'm totally nerding it up and playing BW all day. In fact these past four months have been some of my most productive ever - not only have I been enjoying a pretty nice social life, but I've been playing a lot of BW and getting a lot done academically.
As some people know, I've been living in Washington D.C for the past four months almost - as part of the UCDC program, which gives students an opportunity to intern in D.C. while taking classes. So I'm working at a think tank called the Institute for Policy Studies, it is REALLY awesome here.
I've been doing a crapload of work here, and they have given me enough freedom to pursue my own projects, so I've written some book reviews and two articles (second one is still being edited), the first of which actually got picked up and featured on the cover of YES! Magazine, which was really cool!
Anyways, aside from that I really love living in D.C. I'm a big fan of cold weather, so I've loved living in a place that actually has seasons. There was a distinct fall and now I'm witnessing a very clear transition into winter. I'm kinda sad I'm going to be leaving before snow falls.
BUT, there is good (maybe) news. A Fellowship position opened up here, and I applied for it. It is a really competitive position, over 200 people have applied for just one spot. It pays pretty decently and lets you embark on your own major project, so I'm really excited to be given the opportunity to maybe get the spot.
Currently I'm in the second phase, there are only 14 applicants left. I'm pretty nervous actually, now that I know I've made it from 200 down to 14, I feel a bit confident, but I think getting my hopes up has made me a lot more nervous. My original goal was to make it to the second round, and I was pretty encouraged to find out that out of all my fellow interns (there are about 12 interns here) only two of us (me and another guy) have made the top 14. They're going to let me know if I'm a finalist (top 3) in about 1.5 weeks or so. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I would <3 to work here for 1-2 years!
On top of that, the East Coast is awesome. I'll get to host more D.C. LAN's and stuff!!
