That's right, as the title says, I am a Terran player. I have been playing Terran since the game was first released. However, I didn't pick up melee until about 2004 as I didn't feel melee was fun at all. I tended to play Use Map settings games most of the times, especially bounds. Oh, those were fun times. For you bounders, do you remember playing the Cipher obstacles made by Cipher2002? Those were a blast. I was known as l)ark_a.l back then, good friends with l)ark_Hova. But enough of that.
And so, in 2004, my melee career began! I picked up Terran after watching a few of Boxer's games. Boxer, known as the best player back then truly impressed me with his micro management as well as his innovative build orders. I was inspired! I quickly picked up Terran and tried to become the "next Boxer."
Alas, I didn't fulfill that dream. I lost games here and there and I was quickly getting discouraged. "Why am I playing this stupid race? Weak and slow, I should just drop Terran and pick up Protoss." But for some reason, I never dropped Terran and just kept on playing. It wasn't until 2008 that I truly stuck to Terran and began to get "good".
In 2008, I met a guy named weedman420. He was the first person who truly got me into Build Orders. He was very surprised at how my gameplay was at back then when I didn't know any build orders, let alone that build orders existed at all. Although he was a cocky person, if it wasn't for his help and training, I wouldn't be the Terran player I am today. I began to improve more and more and soon enough, I began dominating zergs and protosses and terrans left and right. I loved it.
But my "reign" was short-lived when I met another Terran player named LuckyFool in 2008 on USEast. LuckyFool was a guy who played the game just as long as I had. When I first saw him, I didn't think he was much. "Pah! LuckyFool, he's probably just like his name and wins by luck." So I played him, expecting to win every game. Not exactly. I ended up winning only 3 games out of 8 and the other 5 games that he won weren't pretty. I was shocked. I went by build orders almost exactly and I still ended up losing. What was going on?
"You lack timing and macro." was what was thrown at me by LuckyFool. I couldn't believe the lack of information I had in Timing pushes. LuckyFool taught me that against Protoss for example, a timing push window appeared whenever a Protoss double expanded. He also taught me area hotkeys to better my Macro and constantly keep producing. Quickly, I became better once again and LuckyFool became one of my good friends in Brood War. I gave him better games and soon enough, one might say we became rivals. Soon enough, he introduced me to iCCup...
I still play Brood War today, using Terran of course. Although I am a much better Terran player today, I still do have a lot to learn about the game as a whole. I watch progamer replays/VODs constantly, trying to rationalize certain decisions that progamer Terrans make and trying to apply these decisions into my own game. Although I am only a D+ Terran in iCCup, I am still aspiring to become better and play more and more games, because I know for a fact that I'm better than D+. Now.. I just have to show that.
So to all you lower-level Terran players, my advice is to never give up. Don't rage over that imba (inb4Protoss players flaming me) Arbiter recall and just keep persevering to get better. Play good people and try to learn from them. For me, it was LuckyFool and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be the Terran player I am today. So practice, learn, and execute and become a better Terran player. Play on.

Interesting read. I like how every Terran seems to share this victim mentality.

awesome story! i also met Luckyfool back on USEast when i watched him play obs games he had such entertaining games with crazy marine/medic/tank rushes TvP, and other unique strategies

i have a mindblock vs terran(cant win vs anyterran atm). dont be victim. maps are on your side

playing terran sucks a lot if you dont have builds down, highly recommend flash for learning materials

when i play toss, i feel like a general. when i play zerg, i feel like an overlord. when I play terran, i feel like im just tryin to survive
terran players are masochistic

well its true because the other opponents (zerg & toss) have game ending units earlier on so you should be on your toes as a terran player, but thats where builds will help u (building placement, proper timing, when to get comsat, etc)
also if you learn flash builds where you get into a solid mid-late game your whole perspective of surviving as a terran player changes, you'll be stomping them with heavy upgrades & abusing map topography with siege tanks

I never got used to losing so many marines to mutas... its just that they're too close to humans that I feel pity for them. When my zerg units die, I just think "eh, probably deserved it". But when my marines die, I always think "Damn there's a wife and 2 kids waiting for him at home...

I hate playing zerg because every time I lose a unit I feel so terrible, like I fucked up. That's why I like playing with Protoss, and TvP for fun. I love unit efficiency. My friend said I actually cringe when I lose units I thought I could have saved.

Most of them are convicts. Don't feel bad for them.
