well its true because the other opponents (zerg & toss) have game ending units earlier on so you should be on your toes as a terran player, but thats where builds will help u (building placement, proper timing, when to get comsat, etc)

also if you learn flash builds where you get into a solid mid-late game your whole perspective of surviving as a terran player changes, you'll be stomping them with heavy upgrades & abusing map topography with siege tanks

I think SC politics is pretty simple, both T's and Z's hate P's, T's and P's hate Z's, P's and Z's hate T's. So even though there are many opportunities for alliances, the in-fighting and backstab treachery makes it impossible. Oh the world we live in.

Great Terran read. I for one also thought your going to whine left and right about race imbalance but you fooled me there. Anyhow when I was half way thru your blog I thought OMG this guy is like B or something T_T you fooled me once more by stating your D+

You have the right mentality to get really good with terran as you do not whine, know about BO's and timings. Just keep gaming and get good opponents and your on your way to the top!
Cheers bro!

It's not that strange if you really think about it. They play a race which relies heavily on ranged units, in other words units that are too pussy to fight hand-to-hand with anything. Naturally, if they lose a unit to a non-ranged unit, it's blasphemy because "THIS UNIT IS SO WEAK TO MELEE OMGZ", and if they lose it to a ranged unit it's bullshit because "OMG TANX ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN _____ HOW COULD I LOSE THAT'S IMBA." They can sit behind their walls and turrets and shoot at you from accross the screen, you expect these people to feel like cracklings and speedlots (units that specialize in speed but not range) are balanced units when their interplanetary range tanks get beat by them? Along with being the only race to have nuclear weapons fired by invisible long-range snipers, hidden heat-seeking mini-nukes, and the ability to repair most of their buildings and units, it's obvious they would always be butthurt when they don't win. It hurts because they have the largest inherent advantage, and if they lose that means they really must suck, but it's hard to accept that so they blame other factors and play the victim as Chill said. Unfortunately the farce fools no one but themselves.

That's a bit harsh. I don't think all Terran players have this mindset as it seems like you're generalizing for all Terran players. I for one, do not think like this. However, I do sometimes get very frustrated when I tend to lose simply because of an abuse of higher tech tier skills such as Stasis or Recall, though it is unfair to associate all Terran players with the kind of mindset you described.

Terrans are the only ones you see with a new blog every other day complaining about how they "overcome all imbalance" to be good. Don't ever see us Zergs complaining...except when a Terran blog like this jumps up, then we just laugh at you derisively.

Am I the only one who prefers ultras instead of lurkers and defilers? And I think the zergs are the victims, I struggle to survive during the early - early-mid game.

violence! <3 Great post.

Don't listen to the haters, Terran is by far the most difficult and awesome race to play. It's the least forgiving and most mechanically demanding by far.

The haters are just bitter they get raped 24/7 by all the 1337 terran imba awesome shit.

I miss those fun days on east man lolz I used to be able to pull off such epic shit.

That's right, as the title says, I am a Protoss player. I have been playing Protoss since the game was first released. However, I didn't pick up melee until about 2004 as I didn't feel melee was fun at all. I tended to play Use Map settings games most of the times, especially bounds. Oh, those were fun times. For you bounders, do you remember playing the Cipher obstacles made by Cipher2002? Those were a blast. I was known as l)ark_a.l back then, good friends with l)ark_Hova. But enough of that.

And so, in 2004, my melee career began! I picked up Protoss after watching a few of Nal_rA's games. Nal_rA, known as the best player back then truly impressed me with his micro management as well as his innovative build orders. I was inspired! I quickly picked up Protoss and tried to become the "next Nal_rA."

Alas, I didn't fulfill that dream. I lost games here and there and I was quickly getting discouraged. "Why am I playing this stupid race? Weak and slow, I should just drop Protoss and pick up Zerg." But for some reason, I never dropped Protoss and just kept on playing. It wasn't until 2008 that I truly stuck to Protoss and began to get "good".

In 2008, I met a guy named weedman420. He was the first person who truly got me into Build Orders. He was very surprised at how my gameplay was at back then when I didn't know any build orders, let alone that build orders existed at all. Although he was a cocky person, if it wasn't for his help and training, I wouldn't be the Protoss player I am today. I began to improve more and more and soon enough, I began dominating terrans and zergs and protosses left and right. I loved it.

But my "reign" was short-lived when I met a Terran player named LuckyFool in 2008 on USEast. LuckyFool was a guy who played the game just as long as I had. When I first saw him, I didn't think he was much. "Pah! LuckyFool, he's probably just like his name and wins by luck." So I played him, expecting to win every game. Not exactly. I ended up winning only 3 games out of 8 and the other 5 games that he won weren't pretty. I was shocked. I went by build orders almost exactly and I still ended up losing. What was going on?

"You lack timing and macro." was what was thrown at me by LuckyFool. I couldn't believe the lack of information I had in Timing pushes. LuckyFool taught me that against Terran for example, whenever the terran player moved out to take another base it was a good oppotrunity to recall. He also taught me area hotkeys to better my Macro and constantly keep producing. Quickly, I became better once again and LuckyFool became one of my good friends in Brood War. I gave him better games and soon enough, one might say we became rivals. Soon enough, he introduced me to iCCup...

I still play Brood War today, using Protoss of course. Although I am a much better Protoss player today, I still do have a lot to learn about the game as a whole. I watch progamer replays/VODs constantly, trying to rationalize certain decisions that progamer Protoss make and trying to apply these decisions into my own game. Although I am only a D+ Protoss in iCCup, I am still aspiring to become better and play more and more games, because I know for a fact that I'm better than D+. Now.. I just have to show that.

So to all you lower-level Protoss players, my advice is to never give up. Don't rage over that imba (inb4Terran players flaming me) 200/200 3/3 army and just keep persevering to get better. Play good people and try to learn from them. For me, it was LuckyFool and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be the Protoss player I am today. So practice, learn, and execute and become a better Protoss player. Play on.

So true. But I don't know how you persevere. When I'm about to break D+, I suddenly get 5 pooled and proxy-gated down to a 1000 or so point D Terran
