It's starting to get repetitive so I'm only at 5-3, do I have to finish adventure first? yes, zen garden is unlocked after beating the adventure mode, iirc. but 5-3 is already the rooftop level, isn't it? that's the last stage.

I've tried lots of stupid combinations of plants to handicap myself into making the scenarios challenging, but I think you have to try to lose (or just play with max 2 sunflowers or so).

Mine goes something like this (at least it has been for a lont time, I'm on 5-6 now) : steps 1-5 SFs (sunflower ofc) 6Squash , 7SF 8SF 9DSF 10SF 11Squash 12SF 13SF 14Chomper 15SF 16DSF (flower pots as needed) I basically just mass SF on 3 rows and repel the singular zombies as cheap as possible, Squashes, Chompers, Tamales, Tall-Nuts are all pretty good at buying more time. And then my prime range is 3peater. This build nets me like 600-700 before the 5th or 6th zombie and usually before any waves begin. For night, I'm not sure what build is better now that I have DSFs, I was going like: steps 1-4SS (sunshroom) / GS (gloom shroom) 5Water Shroom steps 6-8 SS/GS (same deal here but only the back 2 or 2 1/2 rows because fungus is cheaper ) prime damage is scaredey shrooms and those fat splash shrooms. Also, Not 100% on this, but I think SS are better than SF, I think SF produce slower at night? and they produce half their cost (25 sun from 50). SS cost 25 and produce a little more than half their cost (15) and then when they grow larger they produce 100% (25, not sure how many small sun they give before they morph 6-10?). SS are more cost effective but you are pretty weak early/mid game and rely heavily on the free shrooms. Then once econ kicks in you usually have to do some shovel work to place harder hitters.

Unfortunately you can't alt-tab and let it go in the background, so you actually do need to afk. If you really want to gather cash in game, I would say something like unlimited survival with one or two gold magnets. The number of zombies approaching gets so huge at some point, that there's constantly gold lying around. You can run PvZ in windows mode, i've done it for days

Potato Mine is much better early game compared to squash (25 cost vs 50). Time it takes mines to set up is approximately 4 walking squares distance, easily enough warning time. Mine recharges fast enough so that your sunflowers won't get attacked until multiple zombies appear at same time. For night, I'm not sure what build is better now that I have DSFs, I was going like: steps 1-4SS (sunshroom) / GS (gloom shroom) 5Water Shroom steps 6-8 SS/GS (same deal here but only the back 2 or 2 1/2 rows because fungus is cheaper ) prime damage is scaredey shrooms and those fat splash shrooms. imo, best build is to abuse sunshroom/puff shroom/sea shroom, replace puff shroom with 3 rows of fume-shroom. puff shroom is free and although it's range is limited, it's fast enough to kill one zombie. before 1st zombie dies, u can place 4 puff shrooms. the lane with the 1st zombie can have 2 puff shrooms hit the zombie without getting hit Also, Not 100% on this, but I think SS are better than SF, I think SF produce slower at night? and they produce half their cost (25 sun from 50).
