I finally got photoshop installed on my new computer, and I've been trying to process my photos from my Korea trip way back when. I was hoping to get through at least one set (of my visit to Jeju island) and even post them here for you guys by tonight, but I doubt that's happening. I've been working for the last hour and a half trying to properly calibrate my monitor, but I'm getting frustrated as hell.
Can someone tell me how to find and open Adobe Gamma? For some reason I can't find it, even though it's supposed to come packaged with Photoshop. If not, could someone link me to a decent free gamma calibration software?
Also, is there any even remotely reliable way to adjust color settings without a hardware calibration device? I don't trust my eyes anymore...they're about to bleed out of my fucking head.
I have a 22" Samsung LCD...one of the cheaper models, and I was never able to get the CD calibration to work properly. I guess I'm paying for it now. Ugh.
You don't need fancy photoshop to quick edit some photos. You can use a free image editing program if all you are going to do is play with contrast, brightness, colour balance and the like.
Photography is a serious (more or less) hobby of mine, and I used to do it semi-professionally, so these color settings aren't going to be something I take lightly.
Contrast, brightness and color balance aren't great tools to use for editing photos, as they don't actually mess with the original photo's colors. The program actually just applies filters over the original photo.
For better control, it's better to use Levels and Curves adjustment.
