2-game winning streak right from his debut! MBCGame's Ace (also known as aMeBa)!
"I think this is the best possible result I could have achieved."
"I think this is the best possible result I could have achieved."
A valuable new player has emerged from the MBCGame team, who had been struggling with their lack of good, new players. Due to a weak B-team and highly anticipated backup players not performing up to expectations, MBC had to undergo a terrible Round 3, and in this time of difficulty, this new player is great news to the team, with the 09-10 season looking bright for them.
This player is MBCGame's zerg player, aMeBa, aged 22 (Korean age) this year. After making a spectacular debut by defeating Air Force ACE's 'Sashin' Anytime, where he showed great management skills, he followed up by defeating Hwaseung Oz's Hiya, recording an impressive 2-game winning streak. Getting a win is already hard for a new player making his debut, so winning the next game is even more amazing. He showed that he was proficient in the 'management' area in his match against Anytime, and also in the 'all-in' area in his match against Hiya.
aMeBa initially made his debut as the name 'Park Jun Sang'. But due to personal reasons, he changed his name to 'Jeong Woo Seoh' in June this year. After changing his name, aMeBa was reborn and is making a name for himself. In the 2007 player drafting, he recorded the worst score and yet, was able to catch coach Ha Tae Gi's attention. The reporter said that aMeBa left a strong first impression with his military-style haircut and different scratches. (TN: Refer to bottom of post to see what's a 'scratch')
The following is the interview with aMeBa.
- A short introduction about yourself to Fomos and e-sports fans.
▲ Hi, I am Jung Woo Seoh, aged 22. It has been a year since I first entered this team. I am a Zerg player. There are a lot of Zerg players in my team so I am learning much from my seniors.
- You made an impressive 2 game winning streak since your debut. How do you feel?
▲ Many people congratulated me on that. It still feels like a dream. It's enough to make me wake up everyday, thinking if it was a dream. People around me are telling me to work hard and that it is just the beginning. I feel the same.
- You displayed impressive management skills in your match against Anytime.
▲ It was my first match so even if I were to lose, I wanted to put on a good performance to appeal to the viewers. I played while trying to keep my mind at ease. That was why my result was good. I told myself that this could be my first and last chance.
- How did you feel when you recorded your first, and eventually your second win?
▲ When I won my first match I was still in a daze. I had the thought that I won because I worked hard. When I won my second match, I thought that 'even I can play well on such a stage' and gained confidence.
- Your head-on aggressive play against Hiya was outstanding.
▲ When I first got into the team, I did not know that I was able to play aggressively. But after getting to know Hyun hyung, I learned a lot. Hyun has some traits that I don't. I worked hard to learn that, and I think it came out well in my match against Hiya.
- Your first win revolved around 'management', and your second win revolved around 'all-in'.
▲ I wasn't all comfortable because of my first win. But after reading articles, I found out that I was being well rated. That is why I felt that I had to work harder and put on an even better performance. I wanted to play a different kind of game from the one I played against Anytime. I think that Hiya is one who likes to take the advantage and play mindgames. I felt that I would lose if I were to lose my advantage, so I worked hard to play aggressively and take the early lead.
- Then what is your true playing style?
▲ I think that it is similar to the style I displayed in my match against Anytime. But one thing I realised after joining the team was that I can't be successful with just my own style alone. That is why I am working hard to pick up other players' playing style.
- In the 2007 draft, you were rated as the worst player and yet you were chosen by MBCGame.
▲ I really felt that that was the last chance for me. But I lost all my games in the semi-progamer rating games. I was confident in my skills but I was too nervous, and I felt that I would never become a progamer. So I went to the house of the team I most wanted to get into and took a test after meeting up with Coach Ha. Coach Ha welcomed me and told me that he wanted to see my determination. In the end I got a military-style haircut. But it still did not have enough of an impact, so I got a scratch.
- But since you got last in the draft rankings, you must have thought that would be hard for you to get into MBCGame.
▲ Coach Ha initially told me that they had a lot of practice partners so they could not get me into the team. But I told him that that does not matter, and that as long as I was allowed into the team, I would work hard for the next draft. I think he welcomed that openheartedly.
- Why did you choose to be a progamer?
▲ It is because I love gaming. After leaving eSTRO, for a year, it was tough to get into a progaming team. I was sad because I thought I had a bad image. I knew that I could do well, but I felt that my path was being blocked off because of prejudice. I think that I grew even more determined because of that.
- What do you think is the advantage of being a progamer?
▲ I hate losing. On the other hand, I feel so happy when I win. I think that the advantage of being a progamer is that many people will clap and cheer for you when you're a progamer and they're watching your games. But of course, it's tough too. However, I am optimistic and positive. Actually, my mom was severely against my decision (to be a progamer). I believed that (my dream) will definitely come true.
- After your debut as a progamer, who were you most influenced by?
▲ I think it's Hyun hyung. I was living an independent life and was low in self-esteem. I also had family issues. So I wasn't able to play with confidence. But Hyun hyung does anything with confidence, regardless of what his opponent does.
- When you are asked these kind of questions, the answer is usually with reference to legendary players such as YellOw, Reach and sAviOr...
▲ I was influenced by them too. But honestly speaking, you get influenced heavier by people you meet up with in real life and practice with than with people you just watch on TV when you're an amateur. That is why I said it's Hyun hyung.
- Then who were you most influenced by while watching TV?
▲ It's GoRush. When GoRush wins, he makes his opponent seem so weak and little. I felt like wanting to play like him when I watched his games.
- You have won two games straight after your debut, so you must have set a target for the next season as well.
▲ I have not thought of a real target yet. But I think I can win 15 to 20 games. I also want to be the 'King of the new players'. It's because they say the bigger your dream is, the better. But there are a lot of Zerg players in my team, so I have to focus on helping my seniors first.
- What else are you good in, other than Starcraft?
▲ Ironically, I am very bad in other games. Actually, I started playing Starcraft because in high school, I thought I was very good in it but I was totally defeated by my classmate. That's why I started playing Starcraft with a lot of determination. I can't play other games like Special Force or Kartrider. My younger brother players such games better than me. Other than gaming, I enjoy reading and going to the karaoke. But I am not a good singer (laughs). I especially like watching movies.
- You said you like movies, so what genre to you enjoy?
▲ I enjoy movies with a moral story behind it. A memorable movie? It's a movie titled 'The Island'. It's a movie with Scarlett Johansson in it, and it made me think a lot about human cloning.
- You are 22 years old, not really a young age for a new player.
▲ I felt very grateful when I was allowed into the team. There are many younger players in the team, but I felt that I still had to treat them as seniors. I worked hard to fit in. I did not think about my age. Age is not that important when you're living in the society.
- You weren't relatively young so you must have felt slightly desperate.
▲ I was quite desperate. My mother lives alone so I worked hard to be of immediate help to her. I thought long and hard about whether I should be doing other things other than gaming, which could be of even greater help. But I felt that doing what I like with my all would be helping my mother the greatest.
- What did your mother say after you recorded a 2-game winning streak since your debut?
▲ She does not understand the game. Also, I'm a bit blunt so I told my mother not to come down on site to watch me play. But she secretly came to watch me play. And I felt really happy to win in front of my mother. When I won 2 games in a row, she told me 'well done'. When I won my first game, she told me that I should not be too overly confident and that it's alright to lose, so I should put in my best effort for my second game.
- What kind of player do you want to be?
▲ Even if I don't become a special, key member, I want to be a player that my team can fully put their trust in. I play for my team. I also want to advance into the individual leagues, but rather than winning and attaining all the glory, I just want to hear that my team is doing better.
- Any words to your fans?
▲ There is no such thing as 'putting in your best effort produces in the best results'. But I think I achieved the best possible result. I am taking other people's interest in me as a motivation to do even better. I will work twice, thrice as hard to produce even better results.
