Yesterday My internet lagged up and went down so I reset the router/modem like I always do every week or so. afterwords Chatzilla IRC wasn't working and AIM wouldn't connect ( I use old version 3.5.xx with dead aim 4.5) And it has always worked for me since like 2003 (It still works at home).
I come back today and it still doesn't work. Both programs just get stuck 'connecting' and never actually do anything. Everything else seems to work fine. I'm seeding torrents, typing here etc.
Any ideas?
edit- Belkin routers are so retarded. It seems that when I put my comp in the DMZ enabled list it disallowed the chat programs, but only after I closed them and reopended them later? Wtf? how does that work? It's not like I need to forward any ports for these programs. PS- When I disable the firewall in the router it still lags games.

Forward your ports for AIM and IRC, try using Pidgin/Trillian too.
|
I have never had to forward ports ever for any chat programs. and no/no thanks.
|
I've had this happen before with MSN, was something to do with the ports...try resetting your router again that may reset it to the way it was before, I believe that's how I fixed it.
|
I have the same problem, trust me it works. My msn/aim dont work without Port Forwarding, just try and see if it fixes the problem, it will only take 5 min max. Also give Pidgin/Trilian a shot, they are great multi purpose chat programs.

I already figured it out. The Computer was in the DMZ, which some how contradictingly blocks chat apps? can anyone explain this?>
edit- ok, now they keep discing, wtf is going on. resetting.
|
Yea, I can explain it: it doesn't, and your explanation is wrong.

Ok, still works with DMZ enabled. That was strange, they would get stuck in the connection loop, then I took off the DMZ and they worked, but disced in a few minutes. Then I reset and all seems to be well.

It's actually 5.5.3595 , whatever. I've been using the cracked version of this http://www.jdennis.net/DeadAIM/downloads.php for years, and it is the best AIM version. It's had all the stuff that the newer aim version are just now getting since forever, without all the ads and bullshit clutter, or program weight.

Is your router or internet set to block the protocol that aim and irc uses ie. Under the filters somewhere in that dam router should be things like HTTP HTTPS FTP Telnet SMTP DNS NetBIOS POP3 IMAP NNTP IRC H323 ETC. Checking the box allows the associated traffic type through the firewall scene you have a dmz mode your router has a firewall even turning the firewall off doesn't make the router connect to protocols it other wise would not.
Just make sure you're allowed inbound and outbound usage of irc and wth ever aim uses.
|
omg, you are back! <3 , naw all the filters are empty. I've always had issues with these work comps though, Never been able to play sc or any games without lag spikes - firewall or not. I just assume it's belkin's garbage router that causes it.
|
OK, shit isn't working again. I got disced.

Hey izzy do you have aim ? maybe I can give you remote access and you can check some stuff out?
