During spring quarter I hardly watched live BW, and probably played 2 games total, both 8 player FFA's on BGH with all comps probably (something to do at work).
But I'll have a little more time this summer. Of course all the SCII hype is good to follow too, and that may be my inspiration. In the past three days I've played 16 games on iCCup and gone 3-12 (one didn't count for some reason, but I lost it). That's a higher average games per day than probably any time ever for me.
In fact, I feel like playing even more right now, but after playing 5 in a row or so my brain stops working well. I guess it's like anything else, the more I play the higher my endurance will be. I still suck a lot, I'm 0-5 against Terran (2-4 vs Z and 1-3 vs P). I have the bad habit of thinking I can charge headlong into a push once I have Arbiters, I need to work on flanking etc.
I've also only played one map, and I think after 16 games on it it's time to try something else.
I was really hoping as soon as I heard about the cake contest to win it. My original intent was to play SCII all summer with preposterous frequency. And after I read the News post that said top 10 were getting keys, I was almost sure I was in.
But alas, I guess my cake was less awesome to others than I personally thought it to be. And no doubt, the ones that did win were all very good. However, I decided 1) There may still be another way to get a key (perhaps) and 2) I have followed BW really intensely for the most part over the past two years (this last quarter of school being the most distant I have been from it), but I never played it as much as it deserves. So on the bright side, had I gotten a Beta key, I may have never learned it as well as I should.
I don't expect to to reach B- before SCII comes out, but I already feel like my command is more fluid, even if it still sucks. It seems like more people are on iCCup now too, when I make a game it's an average of 2 or 3 seconds before someone joins. I've also only been 4-pooled once! That's quite refreshing.
If anyone ever wants to play and get some easy wins (Day9 said playing inferior players is helpful sometimes :O ) then you can AIM me at AncestralBW, Ancestral on iCCup (I ladder on a super secret other account), or Ancestral1274 on West, though I seldom get on that (not for like a year anyway).
Aside from playing lots of games, watching specific reps / vods of a matchup / map I want to learn, have anyone of you gone from sucky to decent in recent enough memory to have tips on improving (my iCCup score has ranged from around 850 to 1100, I think I'm slightly better than most D- players but worse than most D's. I don't think I've beaten anyone over 1200)?
I've probably only knowingly played 10 Tl.netters, hopefully I can increase that number! (And maybe become good enough to beat some of you).
Edit: A little bit of spam, all three songs from my bands demo are currently up!
