Canata: "The fact that I have advanced into the Round of 16 makes me very happy."
"I will try to stay as long as I can in both individual leagues."
"I will try to stay as long as I can in both individual leagues."
SKT1's Canata defeated Hite's HoGiL and eSTRO's UpMaGiC and advanced from Group I, Round of 32 of the 2009 Bacchus OSL.
The following is the interview with Canata.
- Thoughts on your first entry into the Round of 16?
▲ I feel glad because it's the Round of 16, and even more so because it IS the Round of 16. I felt that the Round of 36 is just an extended preliminary, and I finally feel that I have qualified for the actual OSL.
- You didn't make it far into any of the OSLs so far.
▲ I could have, but it's because of the choices made by my team, as well as the abolishment of the Dual Tournament. If I didn't do so back then, then I might have continued to stay in the OSL. Because of my choices and lack of focus, I didn't participate in the OSL, but after my teammates gave me advice, I tried but I failed. After that, I kept failing.
- How did you practice?
▲ iloveoov coach told me that Proleague is important, but so are individual tournaments, and if I have to participate and do well in individual tournaments, he'll cut me some slack. It was because of him that I managed to advance.
- What did you revolve your practice around?
▲ It was mainly around 'Holy World'. I actually prepared a different strategy. I wanted to show a fun strategy but my opponent went for an all-in, which I defended easily and won. I think I won easily compared to how much effort I put in to prepare for today's match. Holy World is a zerg-favored map so there was too much to prepare. The main is shaped like a donut so it's hard to go both mechanic and bionic. Also, there are many expos, so the map favors the zerg a lot.
- Your recent games have been good.
▲ I practice more now. Up until the previous season, I was one of the key players in the team, but my results haven't been good this season, and I wasn't sent out that often too, so I was embarrassed. I think my games are okay, but my teammates all play too well, and I don't get any chance to be sent out.
- You did not appear in Proleague for a long time.
▲ I wonder if he'll send me out after seeing my matches today (laughs). I did not play many games recently. Including my latest game against baby and my play in the post-season match, I lost all of them too powerlessly. Our team's 'Do-Taek-Myung' (Best-Bisu-Fantasy) trio are too strong, so my chances of being sent out is less. Now, I think that I have to display my skills and prove that I am worthy.
- You became a 'dual-leaguer'. (Qualified in both leagues)
▲ In the past, I really hated it when there were matches on my off-days. I hated practicing when other players were taking a break, but now, I'm fine with being busy, and I want to play more matches. I will become busier, now that I am a dual-leaguer, which is a good thing for me. Among all the dual-leaguers, my value is the lowest, but I will work hard so that I will not be overshadowed by them.
- You played a fierce match with UpMagiC.
▲ In the first match, if my SCV went straight diagonally, I would have seen my opponent's barracks but I made a little turn so I missed it. UpMagic played very well. That is why I lost the first match. In the second match, I saw a few games that UpMagiC played on Outsider, and it helped me in choosing a good build. UpMagiC's recent TvT score has been good, but fantasy shook him up the day before so I was able to win with ease. I am thankful to Fantasy, as well as the rest of my teammates who cheered for me before I came here.
- Your recent TvT score hasn't been so good.
▲ My TvP and TvZ were better than I thought. As for TvT, during practice it was okay but during broadcast, I keep doing unnecessary plays and end up being on the receiving end of my opponent's comeback. But I won today, so if I get to play another TvT in the near future, I am confident that I can win.
- Your reason for going wraiths in the last match?
▲ I was sure that my opponent went 1 fact 1 star after seeing my opponent's army combination. Since it's a reverse-high ground map, even if I have a lot of ground units, because of higher ground advantage, I wouldn't have won even if I had 2 factories running. But wraiths null that advantage. I was confident in my wraith micro, and my opponent went all-in, so I knew he was trying to destroy my nat. When I lost all my army I was at a very dangerous moment, but my opponent didn't attack and camped instead, so I was able to overcome that dangerous moment.
- You will now take part in the Group Selection stages.
▲ In my first Group Selection, I got cocky and people cursed at me (laughs). Now, I am 3 years older, and among the players who qualified, I am the eldest, so I will just get it done quietly.
- Are there anyone you want to face in the Round of 16?
▲ As long as it's not from my team, the stronger the player, the better it is. I saw the previous season's games which my younger teammates played, and it was very unfortunate. I couldn't congratulate them for their wins, and neither could I cheer them up when they lost. It was stressful.
- Your target for this season?
▲ I have never qualified for the actual OSL and won a match before, so I want to record at least a win, followed by getting into the Round of 8. These are my initial targets.
- Any final words?
▲ I am thankful to all my teammates who helped me with practice. My parents worried a lot for me, and I am sorry, and I will work harder and produce good results. I will definitely invite my parents over to watch me play in the finals.
