I've been using a Logitech MX310 for the past several years, and it's finally breaking down. The primary mouse button only clicks when I hit it in certain areas, and the back/forward browser buttons only work when pressed from a certain angle.
SO...naturally, I need to get a new one. Searching for mouse threads really didn't help...they were all about hardcore gaming mice or were troubleshooting threads of one kind or another.
I'm not that big of a gamer...pretty much just SC. What's more important to me is price.
What's out right now that best balances price, quality and performance?

you can play sc fine with any sort of mouse, dpi doesn't really matter too much. i find 800 dpi perfect for starcraft though.

Thing is...there're sooo may fucking mice out there. Do any particular models I can look into come to mind?

I like my G5 a lot, I don't think it had like the very best test results but it's served me well for years now, and (probably?) shouldn't be that expensive anymore.

I just got a Logitech mini optical "football" mouse in ebay for $6.50 after shipping. That's a excellent deal if you want a progamer mouse. But I think the Razer Salmosa is a better mouse for every computer usage and sc. The 1800 dpi is useful when I move my mouse around in the desktop. When I play sc, I have the mouse speed setting changed slower automatically in chaoslauncher. The 1000hz refresh rate that razer mouse have really makes a difference. The Salmosa is selling for $35.24 at buy.com

Razer Salmosa for sure.
This mouse is perfect for sc. It's really light and small and easy to move. It's also really comfy to use for a long time. Definitely best mouse imo. It's not super expensive as well.

Razer Salmosa or Logitech Mini Optical are easily the best for SC. They're both fairly inexpensive now I believe.
(or just pick up another MX310)

Since the Logitech Mini Optical and Salmosa have already been mentioned, I'm also planning on getting a new mouse soon, and have narrowed my choice down to one of these two basically. There's a couple things I couldn't find in my research / questions it brought up though, if anyone has any thoughts on these two:
Logitech Mini Optical: Does anyone know the actual size of this thing? I cannot find its dimensions on the internet for the life of me. All the sites that list it give the dimensions of the shipping box, which is not useful. >< I've also heard this one has some issues with skipping around occassionally when making very rapid movements with it, has anyone had any issues with that? This is one of the reasons I'm currently looking for a new mouse (Using like a 7yr old Kensington PoS atm).
Salmosa: Biggest concern here is that I'm on a Mac, so I wouldn't get the drivers. However, this looks like it wouldn't be too huge of an issue due to the mouse being pretty simple to start with, and the hardware DPI/Polling adjustments. Is there anything I'm overlooking here that would make not being able to use the Razer drivers totally crippling? I'm not an FPS player at all, so I don't care about on the fly sensitivity or that kind of fancy stuff. Also read some people taking issues with the buttons being a little squeaky/weird, but suggested that may have been a problem of an early production run - anyone have a comment there?

I use the mouse EffOrt and fAnTaCy mentioned in this blog. Logitech LX3 Optical Mouse. Its profile is long, but it is light, responsive, and reliable. It was also only 20$ at Wal-Mart. I plan to look into Razer products if my LX3 ever goes out of commission, but right now it's doing just fine.

i really like my G5 logitech mouse
but it's pretty big...

I've used the G5 and the G3. I think that the g3 is probably better for sc than the G5, and is less expensive as well. Since you're coming from the mx310, which I think looks more like the G5 than the G3, you might want to give the g5 a try.

Rock the newest Razer Mouse. Its wireless with seamless transition to wired and is like 5400 DPI.
DPI is like crack dude, you have to have the most.
