protip: 99% of people who play starcraft have a good enough internet to run it extremely fast. There isn't much difference in running starcraft on a 56k than running it on the fastest internet you could possibly imagine. Why? because 56k is about the maximum requirements for playing starcraft. (I myself run it on 7.5mbps which is about 100 times what i need for starcraft.)
The reason why you lag on iccup is because of these possible reasons. A) the distance between the places you two are playing. B) One of you is downloading other crap on bittorrent or whatever which is using up all your internet because your too dumb to put a dl cap on it.
When i play australians/other new zealanders there is zero lag. When i play Koreans sometimes there is a little bit of lag When i play Americans sometimes there is a little bit of lag. When i play Europeans there is lag.
Lag or high ping will always be present when playing someone from more than about 8,000km away no matter how fast your connection is.
QFT
C) ppl using firewalls/routers and not forwarding ports etc

Hmm.... Australia is like 15000-20000 km max away from europe? and speed of light is 300000km/s so thats makes it like 0.0666 sec( this is considering its 20000km ) delay is that even gonna make a difference??? I think not something is wrong generaly with your country internet.
Just an example i play koreans with hell ass lag and koreans with 0 lag games and when i play with chinese players i always get utter shit lag games and china is closer to europe then korea is so no big distance is not the case in lag games you got with other countries.

ya it is not impossible to have a lag free game playing european vs korean + Show Spoiler + unless the european is from macedonia

chqhek's playing some games at D rank again... Hmm.

Yeah. I never lag against USA, but there are always occasional pauses when I play Koreans or Scandinavians.

Generally it has nothing to do with the things you mentioned. The biggest problem by far is bad routing. Some internet providers in Sweden might for an example jump traffic through several servers in the US when the traffic is intended for, say, France.
Probably the same problem for Macedonia to Korea. I doubt Macedonian internet providers care enough to make the jumps as scarce as possible on their way to Korea.

Yeah, exactly. It's not based on geographical distance, but on routing. Thing is, lag and geographical distance do correlate, but they aren't in a cause -> symptom relationship. Obviously, it's harder to route optimally if you're geographically distant, but that's not the only thing (hence why it's hard to play chinese w/o lag, and [to me] easier to play koreans w/o lag)
But we're getting off topic here, more akas!
