Alright, so I just finished playing like 6 straight ZvT's on Tau Cross, where I went overpool -> 6 lings -> expo at nat every game. I am completely blown away with how much damage my lings are able to do sometimes. Like 3 games I'll run into the T base and the T is 1 marine CC without even scouting what I'm doing. I mean, they all have passable micro, so they don't just die to it, but come on, what ever happened to scouting? Or one guy who came into my nat, sees my drone sitting at the nat( NO HATCH) and tries to depot my choke.
I mean, isn't a pool first build pretty standard on Tau Cross because of that choke, so shouldn't they expect early lings? Am I just playing sub par terrans? I dunno, I haven't played like more than 3 games of ICCUP since like season 2, where I got D+ and stopped, so maybe it's always like this late in the season?
On a bright note, yay, I'm D+ again! When does the season end? Might try for C- if I have some time.

Dude, anything > D- terrans. If they're playing at a D- level, they should be playing protoss so they can just 1a2a3a their way to victory. Sorry, couldn't help myself there...
So no, I'm not surprised at all that overpool > D- terrans

So no, I'm not surprised at all that overpool > D- terrans Because D- is the same thing as D

So no, I'm not surprised at all that overpool > D- terrans Well, not D- Terrans, just D. =D
And like I said, they have decent micro/mechanics, but what confuses me is that they're like..... stupid. I dunno, that my be a bit harsh, but it seems like everyone has this super macro mindset nowadays.
Btw, this blog doesn't really have a point. I know that at my level, I shouldn't be expecting super intelligent play or anything. Just kinda bored, so thought I'd vent a bit, and be happy with my D+.

well, most terrans are given a build order (1 rax FE) which is standard on pretty much any map with a natural, and they just labor over that BO. this is a good mindset, but terrans need exp, esp against iccup zergs that are more aggressive and do diverse strategies.
scouting is very lacking at that level of terran, scv production is as well adaptation to diff builds is a huge thing most terrans at that level lack and the ability to marine micro in marine vs ling skirmishes. early lings pose a large threat to terran esp if he went 1 marine cc. most terrans expect their marines to be extremely strong, using them offensively even when they only have about 5 with no medics, and end up getting raped by 8 lings.
but at that level, you can probably expect to rip thru terrans by...
backstabbing with lings when they try to contain you with first marine medic force. backstabbing with lurkling army when terran is outside lurker dropping 4 pool (omg so deadly) 9 pool speedlings 3 hatch speedlings mutaling all-in and w/e.
most of these come from the lack of scouting.

HAR HAR HAR! AN ORIGINAL 1A2A3A JOKE LULZ!
(-_-;; )

lol This blog is gonna get derailed into 1a2a3a bash any minute now.
|
bashing the 1a2a3a joke is getting more annoying than the actual joke already

it has more to do with scouting the wrong way.
If you don't scout the right way, you have to memorize the timing in which a 9 pool would arrive and bring scvs to wall at that time.
so you have a combination of semi-difficult memorization with the fact that most D zergs 12 hatch. So a D terran can afford to shrug off a 9 pool loss
|
Ehhh, most zergs 12 hatch on Tau Cross too? T.T I'm so outdated.
|
I'm a bnet level Terran and yeah, overpool (and just about anything else, for that matter) totally rapes me. I usually scout after rax and if it's a 4-player map, the lings will arrive just before I scout the last position. With bnet latency, I find it impossible microing 2 rines against 6 lings and it's usually game over for me right then and there. Now, I usually block my ramp with a few SCVs just in case if I scout the zerg last.
TvZ is ridiculously difficult at low levels. It's not just because of the mechanics, but there's just so many things zerg can do to screw over terran, as ramen noted. What can terrans do? Bunker rush, 4-rax all in, fast dropship... and that's about it.
|
nowadays everyone fast exp, so you going 9 pool lings will have no problem harassing or even beating them. I ran into AKARANA (pro), he saw me going 9 pool speedlings, he immediately built depot at my exit delayed my rush, then built another one at his exit and canceled CC and went 2 rax instead then I lost in the end because of low econ mutas weren't doing much.

Against lazy terrans who assume Z will just 12 hatch every game you can get some easy wins.
+ Show Spoiler + it evens works on pro-gamers, hyvva raped by.SaiR last night in winners league with overpool cuz by.SaiR went cc first. Not like he got an advantage, I mean he ended the game in 3 minutes, pretty sad for a progamer if you ask me t.t

tvz and tvp really have a steep learning curve, and you see it reflected in D level play. Oh well. That's what makes terran so fun to play (and why terrans tend to be near homicidal when it comes to protoss)

always cracks me up to no end that people used to complain protoss was too hard now everyone complains it is too easy l0l0l0l0l0l

awesome.
zerg 12 hatch on tau is asking to be cannon rushed/mannar pylonzored.

Right, that's kinda my point. I was playing Tau Cross all these games, so I would think that Terrans would EXPECT a pool first build. That's why I was surprised.

Maybe he depot'd your choke to DELAY the lings?
That's what I'd do...
Terran players are generally terrible anywhere up to C imo...
edit:
In response to the 4-pool comment, I 4-pooled my way into D+ on my MS natural keyboard lol ^^
