Well, some people are indeed typing like a borderline retarded person sometimes - and I don't want anyone to have that impression of me.
That simple.
It's not like you have to refrain from rofling, though.
Besides, typing a little bit more formally also helps me maintain the level of English I have, as it's not my first language.

I don't mind a lack of capitalization, it's the needless text message style abbreviations that get to me.

It would be nice if people used their/they're, you're/your, loose/lose, etc. properly, if only to help those who want to improve their English.

It's [fucken] impossible homie G. Unless you're really bz like me and need to get your point across fast and don't have time to type it, just abbreviate everything. I tried being "correct" once, and it didnt last very long.

I believe the answer to this question is the following:
The style guide for practically every newspaper in existence, most notably the AP style guide, which is number one in a world of 3890340384 style guides. GOT IT SIR?!
Additionally, I would like to voice my strong and vocal support of the activity thus described in the Original Post (OP). It never hurts to make fun of people who belong to stereotypes that do not at all exist on teamliquid! It gives one a fascinating sense of superiority; of which the OP is clearly in need of. I applaud your efforts! Avaste! Go forth and mock, ye with no self esteem! Go forth!
Yours beloved *HINT HINT INTRGUE*,

GOT IT SIR?! This is not a newspaper. I am talking about the conventions of standard written english. If there is no convention which states that you should write out numbers less than ten, then I am right and you all are my bitches.

It depends what you mean by "standard written english." Since we're talking about proper capitalization and punctuation as practice for future assignments, etc. then the number rule should be followed as well since it's a part of the AP/MLA/Oxford rule sets that most academic papers adhere to.
BTW I could've said all that in about 5 words, but I want to sound smarter than I really am.

It's just as bad as the idiots who post just to say "it's THEIR not there" or "it's spelt XXXX, not XXYX." I don't fucking understand those people. Do they get kicks out of correcting the literacy of a random stranger on the internet? Who the fuck cares!!? It's the Internet. As long as the meaning is clear and it's not complete txtmsg garbage, why bother.....
I don't really care about other people's spelling that much, except for the word "Ridiculous".
I've seen so many people spell it as "Rediculous" when they are like complaining about something. To me, it's an instant 50% credit drop on whatever they are trying to talk about.

APA/MLA etc are for academic writing, not the english language :-/

I just type this way because my OCD goes crazy over missed caps, indents, whatever. It's purely chemical, not jut blatant assholery.

Seems some like pretty obvious reasons to me.
1. Posters see Moltkewarding Post. They think "wow, such deep insightful posts and tl.net loves him. I'm going to emulate!" 2. They wanna be a pillar of the community like a village elder and in order to be a village elder, you gotta be wise! You can only be wise if you type like gigantic prick that knows everything and explains in a condescending / pompous tone. 3. Some people are just naturally inclined to be serious and have no sense of humor so it carries over to tl.net. aka die hard religious folks. 4. Some people want to practice English. And may or may not possess the ability to type informally aka non americans. Maybe somebody on here is a lawyer and hones his debating skills in the Tl.net: General Arena.
