so, i usually type like this on the internet: my rule is fuck capitalization, but basic punctuation and spelling need to be maintained unless i'm doing an awsum abbv. however, it's just mind boggling how some people type so goddamn formally! is this a standard i somehow missed? are these typers simply presenting a mask to us, using the vilest of slang when they talk to their buddies? do these people read our (my) posts everywhere and think i'm some classless swine, educated and uncouth? is the internet really so serious?!?!?!
in an effort to further my understanding of these strange SIS (Serious Internet Persons), i will begin typing like them in every post and on irc for an entire week, beginning from when i wake up in four hours. if you are a slob in your internet rompings feel free to join me, and if you are an SIS please tell why you type like an asshole.
note: i'm not talking about newsposts and shit on tlnet's frontpage, i'm talking about random posts like: "Why yes, I do enjoy a pickle nestled firmly in my hamburgers; the flavour and texture added transcends that of those sandwiches eaten by peasants."
note2, added after reading the first few replies: Please notice that an SIS is not simply someone who uses capitalization - it's people who make posts with excessive lead-ins to sentences, refusals to say a few bad words, excessive punctuation to the degree of punctuating acronyms ("roflmao."), etc. Do not be so quick to take offense, my delightful readers.

I have decided to embark with you on this righteous quest of self-discovery.

Wait.. using capitalization makes me an asshole?

Criticizing someone for using proper english is stupid.

I'm just used to type with capitalization. I don't think there's something wrong with it. Actually in English nearly all of the words don't have a capital letter. You should write German and realise thats a pain in the ass. For example a German sentence:
Heute ist das Wetter echt schön, um einfach mal raus zu gehen und das Leben zu genießen. -> The weather is really nice today to go out and enjoy life.

Agreed. It's just as bad as the idiots who post just to say "it's THEIR not there" or "it's spelt XXXX, not XXYX." I don't fucking understand those people. Do they get kicks out of correcting the literacy of a random stranger on the internet? Who the fuck cares!!? It's the Internet. As long as the meaning is clear and it's not complete txtmsg garbage, why bother.....

Also, what indeed is up with those fellows that selectively capitalize letters in their sentences? I will provide an example: "today I played a Game of starcraft on Iccup, and i went zero and Seven simply Tank Rushing his zerglings." It isn't even consistent! If only there was a internet standard for typing, both efficient and aesthetically pleasing!

Indeed, I do not mean any insult to either side. Note that I refer to myself and others like me as 'slobs,' and the proper typists as 'assholes.' In insulting everyone I hoped that nobody would be insulted! As imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I wish to extend my hand across our differences and forge a deep and meaningful relationship.

For some, I think capitalisation is just a habit, that's just how they always type their sentences. It's not they are trying to be more serious than others.

However, in shedding my snarky, sarcastic persona with age, I also lost the obvious superiority complex that accompanies proper typing.

You can develop very bad habits if you don't.

It is a response to TL's strict moderating and banning "shitty posters". People obviously want to sound smart and educated so they do not fall under the "shitty posters" category.

You can just as easily flip that argument over. So those people who don't use proper English on the internet are saying, I am a vile beast whose standards don't compare to those of the noble scholars! I am not of their level!
Besides, conceiving someone as a jerk because he uses proper English is a misguided, unjustifiable assumption in itself. Only a jerk would call someone else a jerk for no valid reason.

Correct spelling and puctuation is a must(if not you're an asshole), but if you DARE use capitalization you're an asshole.
