holy fuck, are you seriously in grad school?

Are you? You must have mistakenly thought I didn't realize that academic writing requires the use of words for single digit numbers -_-

If you are going to be offensive on the internet, at least be right or be trolling.

Communication is simply easier when people use proper punctuation and spelling =/

Does it really make someone uptight to press shift at the beginning of every sentence? I hate reading long winded posts without punctuation. They're harder to read. I don't care if it's one sentence... But paragraphs of this bullshit is generally enough reason for me to stop reading unless the person has really enlightening ideas.

Frankly, it pisses me off that you have something against people who take the "extra" (in quotation marks because it should be normal) time to communicate their thoughts in a way that will be easiest to read. It has nothing to do with professionalism or showing off; Just common courtesy.

Agree, and remember punctuation serves a purpose.

Dear Sir,

I believe the answer to this question is the following:

The style guide for practically every newspaper in existence, most notably the AP style guide, which is number one in a world of 3890340384 style guides. GOT IT SIR?!

This is not a newspaper. I am talking about the conventions of standard written english. If there is no convention which states that you should write out numbers less than ten, then I am right and you all are my bitches.

My typing depends on my mood. I rarely dont capitalize though. It makes it easier to read for everyone else. Capitalization and punctuation make reading a lot more convenient.

Criticizing someone for using proper english is stupid.

Agreed. It's just as bad as the idiots who post just to say "it's THEIR not there" or "it's spelt XXXX, not XXYX." I don't fucking understand those people. Do they get kicks out of correcting the literacy of a random stranger on the internet? Who the fuck cares!!? It's the Internet. As long as the meaning is clear and it's not complete txtmsg garbage, why bother.....

You are overgeneralizing, and I belive missing the point in many cases.

If you are arguing with someone and typing really quickly, and they are trying to find fault with you, and then call you an idiot for an obvious typo, then they are being an idiot. But I don't like the mentality that because it's the internet you should never correct anyone for anything. If your reasoning is to be a pain in the ass, then you should just stop. But let's be honest. Some people make the same stupid mistakes over and over again without realizing it. Sometimes all it takes is someone to politely point out and possibly explain the error, and it won't happen anymore.

I like it when people correct me if it's because I was mistaken (it's called learning dur). But I agree it can be hard to tell if they are genuine or not, and they can be really dumb about it when they want to.

I agree that if people are genuinely trying to help other people on the Internet with spelling and grammar then it's normally okay to correct them. However, 90% of the time (imo), people who do this are just being pretentious fags who think that pointing out obvious grammatical errors/typos increase their e-credibility.

Most people have seen enough corrections of "your/you're" "their/there" (on the Internet or in school) to have bothered to correct their typing if they gave any type of shit about it in the first place. In other words, (imo) the proper-English-brigade should stop wasting their time and clogging up the Internet with the crap that 90% will not make any difference.

I don't like the mentality either that "because it's the internet you should never correct anyone for anything". Not quite sure how you could suggest such a huge statement from my post Maybe it should be "on the internet you should never correct anyone for anything when the mistakes are trivial, obvious and do no distort the meaning of the original post"

Years upon years of painful essay-writing can do that to you. When your school and college forces you to write so much that it dwarfs your online typing output, you cannot but succumb to the formal style.

I've always typed exactly like you, because I learned to type on bnet. To be honest I've only just recently started using capitalization because it's pretty needed if you ever want to have a formal e-mail conversation with a professor or something. It just makes you look so much more professional.

for me at least, capitalizing or not is a very conscious decision. Sometimes I will uncapitalize something that is correct or visa versa. Sometimes I will uncapitalize the first word of a paragraph, but write the rest correctly. Its all an overly complicated mix of deliberate subtleties, at least in my case. The same goes for punctuation....whether to put a period, put no period, or put a series of periods causes me way too much grief.

I always try to use correct grammar and put commas in the correct places though. Sometimes I will come back to a post I made 20 minutes ago because I'm missing a comma. I usually re-read my post 4 or 5 times at least before I post it. Sometimes I write out an entire post by decide not to post it after all.

Is there something wrong with me?

edit: btw, random capitalization is retarded imo
