A month ago Sony announced that a new model for the PSP will be released in august. This model will contain the following features: - A much better LCD screen enabling you to play outdoors even with sunlight hitting the PSP. - An embeded microphone to enhance online play as well as easier use of Skype and other programs.
Those two are the main two features that advertised, but other than those two it looks nearly exactly the same as the slim and light model. This makes me think, is this change really for the best or is this just a scheme to find a the perfect anti-homebrew hardware in order to force people with those consoles to increase sales on buying those games. I am pretty sure that Sony will make a new model by the end of 09/beginning 2010. Since they confirmed that the PSP's lifespan is 5 or6 more years. Although, I dont think owners of the slim psp will consider this new model. The only way the owners of the phat and slim psps will buy a newer model, is if that if the firmware support for the older models is gone or, if a new model with really huge adjustments (2 analog sticks for example) comes out. What do you guys think?

I think Sony needs to take their PSPs and ... Blah, I'm just bitter because I bought a first gen one

Mine's a first gen and it still canes. Even though these are slightly better it will just be annoying trying to mod it especially since it'll be tougher, so no thank you. Unless like you said it gets something huge like significantly faster or more ram etc.

I've always wondered if I should buy one... perhaps this is a sign?

The 2nd analog stick is probably the only thing that would get me to buy the PSP-3000. The lack of a 2nd analog stick in the PSP makes FPS games a ton less fun T_T

No.

Phat PSPs <3 Its all about the IR on them, and making them a remote for anything that needs one in the house. XD! M33 <3

Maybe to sell more PSP for new and existing customers. A better LCD is a big deal. New PSP can attract new customers that the old PSP didn't have by marketing it as a wifi phone. Now if only Sony does something about the PSP's lack of quality games.

you might need to buy another battery because the battery lifetime went down by at least 20 minutes look here

I think the best move here is to wait until they make an actual PSP2 instead of these stupid small upgrades. The newer models do not tempt me at all. I don't even use my hacked phat PSP much. Portable gaming isn't insanely fun. Stick with SC. =D

You see Sony themeselves said no PSP2 until 5 or 6 more years. Which is a huge time, and Probably each year will witness a new model with newer features. The PSPs battery life didnt decrease btw, a new report shows it was an error. http://pspupdates.qj.net/John-Koller-PSP-3000-battery-life-to-be-the-same-as-PSP-2000/pg/49/aid/123645

PSP300X is a pile of shit unless you are a) love buying new hardware for no reason b) will use the mic (lololololololololololol) c) Love playing games outside the safety of your home (WHICH IS PREPOSTEROUS)
In all honesty, remaking another PSP model for a Brighter Screen and a Mic is a bad move by sony. The brightness was fine unless you loved playing games in a desert and the mic addition isnt something that will motivate buyers. What the PSP needs = BETTER GAMES instead of freakin PS1/2 ports.

Well yeah Square is now having Dissidia FF, Parastie eve, FF agito 13, KH: BBS. All news and compeltly original titles. End of this year beginning 09, I think we should see a couple of great games! Many developers are looking forward to the PSP's potential especially square enix.

Yeah Square has a nice lineup for the PSP which Im interested in. I just rebought a bronze psp and playing it once again since my DS got old .
Im still hoping for a Disgaea 2 port, lol A man can dream....

Well technically, Disgaea 2 is very possible. Developers are looking on the PSP as a huge opportunity, if you can get games as big as crisis core that still dont use the full 1.8GB of a dual layer UMD. You start to think how huge this handleheld is really? I think the PSP is just starting to shine now thanks to recent titles and ones to come pretty soon.
