One thing that might have been making putin Paranoid has been what happened in Lybia, Syria, Ukraine... He clearly saw a pattern on a list where he imagine himself...
Anyway, Syria, with Russia army involvement, with Crimea etc, have been also red flags that have pushed Ukraine to prepare enough against a full-scale invasion.
The irony is that by trying to hide who Putin truly was, he only fooled himself and failed with something he could have succeeded few years earlier. Managing to be evil and incompetent, fuflilling the Holliwood stereotype of the evil russian.
It's a very good point that all this cloak and dagger shit have achieved is a much worse outcome for himself and Russia, than if he had just invaded Ukraine right away in 2014, when they weren't prepared and had much weaker leadership. At that point politicians across Europe would have tripped over themselves to forgive him so normal trade could resume, and Ukraine would now be Russia.
Instead he tried to be clever, showing the world how incompetent he really is.

It is pretty wild how much worse off both domestically and abroad both Iran and Russia are. Here is hoping other authoritarians looking to grow their empire are paying attention.

Russia has had a lot invested in Syria and will need to invest a lot more to salvage their investments after this. Ukraine is also in a situation where they can train whoever and with whatever without anyone really questioning why. Thats valuable to Turkyie and Isreal who are also interested in assads downfall. US is happy to go along with it so much as their proxies don't get screwed over in the end. But all this needed to go down before Trump gets into office and he abandons all the work that was done in the region.
Bolded - lol, must be pride of a proud boy speaking...
Italic - just curious, do you own bunch of funeral houses in the area, or do you just enjoy people dying?
|
I didn't read it as him being personally in favor of people dying. More that if the people coordinating the operations in the area wanted to launch them it had to be now. After Trump would likely sell the details to Iran and Russia, getting the operators killed in the process. He sold classified data to other countries last time he was president, so any reasonable person will assume he will do it again. Especially since the consequences are proven to be tiny for doing it once already.

I am still naive enough to think that invasion of crimea was a direct response to the euro maidan and ukrainians getting rid of their traitor president who tried to turn a deal with the EU that people voted for..into a deal for deeper economic bonds with Russia.
Putin would have loved to simply control ukraine via a belarussian style puppet government that can do his biddings.. or get eaten alive by their successors from a corrupt oligarchy, military or intelligence service.
Putin totally deployed stalinistic loyalty in Belarus. Make the police beat down protests, and keep on living in a palace.
Well, police lost in Kyiv.

Didnt all those NATO intelligence agencies pinky swear there were like eleven thousand of them getting ready for a counteroffencive six weeks ago? Has anyone seen any actual evidance of any Koreans anywhere besides 'trust us bro'?
Eleven thousand people - someone must have seen them, even read articles about their porn watching habits. Nothing? Weird.

South Korean observers in Ukraine officially confirmed North Koreas presence. Russia’s government tacitly confirmed their presence.
https://www.newsweek.com/putin-deployment-north-korea-russia-1974776
Per Putin, “If there are images of North Korean troops then they reflect something… North Korea takes our military mutual assistance treaty seriously”.
Does Putin know that the rumours of NK troops are made up? Perhaps he has been drawn in by western propaganda.

Is this another "there's no evidence if I close my eyes" kind of thing? Dead NKs have been popping up around the place. Ukraine agrees they're there, Russia agrees they're there, US agrees they're there, North Korea agrees they're there. Yet you somehow seems to think they're..not?

Oh GFY with your victim blaming. Everyone in eastern europe knows how you carpet-hanging assholes excuse your "special operations" under most idiotic pretenses. And now you completely shows you don't even understand how Russians think. They exacly KNOW what they did. They just don't care. For them victory and their perceived self-importance is more important than being right. No wonder why they have perturbances and revolutions after every single war defeat they suffer. We are well into the subject of psychology, and I have no right to really express anything here seeing my lack of edumacation in the area. But I believe people generally don't like to think themselves evil. It's unlikely even Hitler (Yes, I know, Godwin's law) believed himself truly evil. If believing lies makes it easier to do the shitty things you already want to do, then that's what you'll believe

I didn't read Excludoes post that way... Of course we have only contact with the fanatics, that are ready to come and preach the benefits of war crime. So for them we are mean westerners that don't respect their culture. Meanwhile we can enjoy getting fat on our mcdonalds while they are able to do less and less with their meager salary.
Yup they know exactly what they are doing and deep down, death doesn't bother them the way it does bother us. Corruption doesn't need solving there because everyone is a little dirty.
