There must be a whole lot of fanatics in Russia considering that 40% of their population supports nuking Ukraine.

More sheep than fanatics. They've been lobotomized for so long now that their grasp on reality is rather tenuous and they'll just eat and repeat whatever slop their overlords feed them.

Started with the tzars and introduction of vodka to sedate the masses and prevent unrest, then you had decades of oppressive regimes and purges. It's quite sad actually that once great nation has been reduced to this.

But I guess we can't really judge them by our own standards since their view on the world is so warped and different that not much from our own experiences applies there. Like the saying goes: "Russia is a state of mind."
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

The Russians are better prepared for such scenarios I believe. They think they can outlast nuclear warfare with size and facilities.

It‘s silly to think living on this planet would be worth it if that happened.

Why would anyone so big want to alter their border anyway… That‘s just greedy. Declaring war over security concerns is any oxymoron.

I am pretty sure a bunch of people are just complete morons, no matter where you are.

For example, i highly doubt that you wouldn't find similar numbers in the US if it were currently involved in a war, against basically whoever. If Trump talked about nuking global warming or a hurricane or the mexican border or whatever, you would probably get 40% of people in favor of it. If the US was still in Iraq, you probably would get 40% in favor of just nuking it easily.

And i doubt that the population in other countries is more sophisticated either. I would really like them to be, but as the saying goes: Imagine a person of median intelligence. Half the population is stupider than that guy.

The age of social media has really shown us the truth in that.

I would think a large percentage of Russians are worried that everything say, anywhere, let alone to pollster, is monitored and if they say the wrong thing they might fall out of a buildings window. I bet a bunch are scared of ending up on sort of list. No clue whether that is 2 percent of the 40 or 38, but I would place money that is enough that getting "real" numbers are near impossible.

My point was that we do not "have only contact with the fanatics" here. The people coming here to post all this unhinged nonsense are your ordinary Russians, not fanatics.

A corrupt minister staged a coup and people felt that the US should go in and restore the government to its rightful leader.

But yeah, back around 2008 I remember a train ride with a very drunk guy who was loudly proclaiming that we should just glass the Middle East. The “end of the bar wisdom” is a bunch of simple solutions to complicated problems and usually much worse than the complicated solutions we actually attempt. The scary thing is that Trump uses a lot of “end of the bar wisdom”.
Playing better than standard requires deviation. This divergence usually results in sub-standard play.

That 40% figure includes people who responded that 'Russia may be justified in using nukes under certain circumstances,' which is not great but also leaves a lot of room for interpretation. It was not a, 'do you support nuking Ukraine, yes/no' question.

South Korean observers in Ukraine officially confirmed North Koreas presence. Russia’s government tacitly confirmed their presence.

Per Putin, “If there are images of North Korean troops then they reflect something… North Korea takes our military mutual assistance treaty seriously”.

Does Putin know that the rumours of NK troops are made up? Perhaps he has been drawn in by western propaganda.

That article from October has a whole lot of 'appeared to, possible, purportedly showed', surely something must have showed up in the last few months to confirm this.

Intelligence agencies also confirmed WMDs in Iraq, they said the Biden laptop was Russian disinfo and all other manner of things that turned out to be lies they were ordered to say by their superiours. Imagine that, the same South Korean president accusing opposition politicans just yesterday of being North Korean sympathisers was the first to see them in combat in Russia. Well Ill be...

North Koreans apparently are in Russia training as part of their mutual defence agreements which is what Putin was referencing, but there is no actual evidance of that either. Nor do the Russian or NK goverments care to elaborate which is their right, Im sure the UK and US dont run to explain themselves to Moscow every time Russia says they did something.

Putin would have loved to simply control ukraine via a belarussian style puppet government that can do his biddings.. or get eaten alive by their successors from a corrupt oligarchy, military or intelligence service.

Putin totally deployed stalinistic loyalty in Belarus. Make the police beat down protests, and keep on living in a palace.

Well, police lost in Kyiv.

That's exactly the reason, and they also was bombing russians in donbass, donetsk and lugansk from 2014, but for some reason no one remembers that

Hey, does anyone remember the North Koreans in Kursk? Didnt all those NATO intelligence agencies pinky swear there were like eleven thousand of them getting ready for a counteroffencive six weeks ago? Has anyone seen any actual evidance of any Koreans anywhere besides 'trust us bro'?

Eleven thousand people - someone must have seen them, even read articles about their porn watching habits. Nothing? Weird.

Is this another "there's no evidence if I close my eyes" kind of thing? Dead NKs have been popping up around the place. Ukraine agrees they're there, Russia agrees they're there, US agrees they're there, North Korea agrees they're there. Yet you somehow seems to think they're..not?

No they havent. Random Russians with an Asian phenotype are not North Koreans.

Only people without any information about the matter agree there are North Koreans fighting Ukrainians. Maybe the Ukrainians themselves should be asked like in this article from the BBC:

Ukraine’s exhausted troops in Russia told to cling on and wait for Trump

A very interesting article that delves into the horrible situation at the front but this part is interesting:

But some of the soldiers we spoke to said they felt they were in the wrong place, that it was more important to be on Ukraine’s eastern front, rather than occupying part of Russia.

“Our place should have been there [in eastern Ukraine], not here in someone else’s land,” Pavlo said. “We don’t need these Kursk forests, in which we left so many comrades.”

And despite weeks of reports suggesting that as many as 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Kursk to join the Russian counter-offensive, the soldiers we’ve been in contact have yet to encounter them.

“I haven’t seen or heard anything about Koreans, alive or dead,” Vadym responded when we asked about the reports.

The Ukrainian military has released recordings which it says are intercepts of North Korean radio communications.

Soldiers said they had been told to capture at least one North Korean prisoner, preferably with documents.

They spoke of rewards - drones or extra leave - being offered to anyone who successfully captures a North Korean soldier.

“It’s very difficult to find a Korean in the dark Kursk forest,” Pavlo noted sarcastically. “Especially if he’s not here.”

You conveniently ignore the fact that literally everyone have confirmed that NK soldiers are there, including North Korea and Russia. Are you claiming your dear leader is a liar?

As for the rest. Literally a single Google search away gives you actual photo and video evidence of NK soldiers on the front lines. Here's an unlucky one, a full month ago:

If you can't even do the very most basic information gathering of "first hit on Google", why should absolutely anyone here take a single word you say with any degree of seriousness? You repeatedly show you have no interest in discussing in good faith

Having a known anti-war attitude would get ordinary Russians in trouble. If displayed publicly even arrested…

Being okay with your countrymen dying so your already enormous country can grow more leans more towards fanaticism. But each country has their own propaganda, the Russian one must be good.

Depending on location. Hard to say what would happen except everything becoming unlivable for a few centuries and mass extinction. The fallout would get everywhere.

Yeah, you'd need to be in some main-target area.

People today start going apeshit if you have to wear a mask, or take 2 seconds to get going on a green light.. I really don't want to see these people confronted with the inconvinience of global thermonuclear war, that suddenly erases their whole structure of values and supply chains.

Only if you live in a big city. Even the explosion raids of the biggest warhead would wipe people. The fallout is also quite mild. Just the nuclear winter. Disorganization of society, lack of food and infrastructure and medicine would just make it a nightmare...

Yeah not all of us are lucky enough to be in a target zone for a nuclear strike. The survivors will be looking forward to a painful death by radiation or a longer death from famine when the world can't grow food anymore.

And yes there were WMDs in Iraq, we sold them to them, and they were being destroyed in secret before the ISIS invasion forced them to be moved again. The laptop of the son of the president has never been produced and he image provided of it wouldn't be admissible in any court in the world with how untrustworthy it is. Just more narratives that zeo is behind on. Even Russians in the politics thread admits there are north koreans in Ukraine "but it's not a problem because international legion" because that is the updated narrative.

This is fascinating . Dude keep going, don't let irrelevant details, like the ones in link below stop you.

Somehow people trying to create "Got Ya!" arguments by pointing out that the west, and especially the US was and is also doing propaganda bs and needlessly starting wars... miss the fact that most people in the west know this, and actually would have liked to see people like Powell and Bush be held accountable for straight up lies that needlessly killed hundreds of thousands.

Has Russia ever been weaker globally? How fast Syria is falling is shocking. Both Iran and Russia can't afford to help. Will Iran be able to continue to supply Russia with drones? Does this only drastically reduce Russia's power in the middle east or else where? Like when the Rebels take the brand new radar S-400 radar system does it get to the west and they get more information? How does this impact the Ukraine war?

Edit: Georgia as well looks like it might be pushing Russia out.

Yes, in the 90s and early 2000s before foreign investors rebuilt it as a hydrocarbon exporter.

During the USSR Russia existed to manufacture inferior goods inefficiently for a captive market that was not allowed access to the global marketplace. Following the collapse of the USSR Russia had no purpose at all. It existed as a developed economy that could not compete with any other developed economy which isn’t a niche.

Then western investors saw an opportunity to convert it to a primary economy based on resource extraction and export which was hugely beneficial to both Russia and them. That lifeline has been the foundation on which all subsequent Russian prosperity is built.

But you’re right, this isn’t great for Russia. Unable to afford to prop up their Cuban allies after 60 years of support. Bent over a barrel and mined for tech by NK and Iran. Losing access to their Mediterranean port. Trading de facto control of their Black Sea base for an attempt at total control only to lose access through the Bosporus and subsequently evacuate their navy from the base anyway. Losing every market for their arms exports as they prove themselves an unreliable supplier with an inferior product. The collapse of their low budget NATO with countries leaving and no support given in the Armenia Azerbaijan war. And interest rates that make the 2000s economy look healthy.

The fall in the last 3 years has been dramatic. And with Ukraine still very much in the fight they have literally nothing to show for it.
