It was the only way to get ahead! with so many people betting on SK i could have risen the ranks with a Sharp upset!

One thing for sure Protoss remains the shittiest race. 3 titles in 19 seasons, one that didn't really count (from Shuttle), one because they made a map pool that allowed 4Ps in the Ro4, and one because Mini lucked out with 12 Nexus. And before anyone wants to blame the players, just look at the number of Protoss champions during Kespa and in SC2. It can't be a coincidence in two games with a combined history of like 40 years? I dont disagree with this, however, Protoss had around 16-17 titles in Kespa era while Zerg 22-23 and Terran 25-26, It was something like this if I recall correctly which did not look that bad as a balance imo. I mean when we had more players, it showed the race strengths better. The 3/19 ratio that we have now is also due to dissimilar talent distribution imo. Again I do believe that Protoss should've had a balance help vs Zerg, but the fewer players pool with no real stable protoss player (perhaps just Rain when he was full time) made the gap too big.
p.s. Honestly BW is so close to be in a really good balance state imo, even if Blizzard had just one patch and just buffed something simple like lets say the cannons, we would have had a way better PvZ match up and way better overall balance

Hydra good unit. Morphs into Lurker, also good unit.

SK just a lot better than everyone at the moment. Actually had a pretty difficult bracket and made it look easy.
It kinda sucks we're not seeing much young talent come through the ranks these days. The scene feels a little stagnant TBH. It's the same players all the time and the competition hasn't been great in these big tournaments.
Hopefully Flash coming back can reinvigorate things a bit. I'll always love BW but predictability seems to be going up and competitiveness down. Dunno how they fix it.
Well, lets be fair though. Barracks & speed are right there.

Yea I am incredibly impressed by speed in particular over the last couple months. He seems prime to do very well in 2025.
Next SSL should be pretty fire with Flash coming back, and especially if Soma returns from military and is able to qualify.

No surprised SK dominated, come to think of it I wonder how many ASLs he would have won if his ZvZ was abit better.

Of course there is no coincidence. The closest we came with map balancing is P being visibly the weakest race, and tesagi being very real. Proping P up created even greater imbalances. 20 years of mapmaking didn't change this, and it is a fool's errand to hope it eventually will.
We just had a video about it. Turns out, a few maps like Radeon are balanced already

I'm not an expert, so probably Artosis is right, but regarding Game 4, there is no way just a single Valkyrie (or two) could not help give some space Sharp to avoid the insane amount of damage he is receiving from all the muta harass against his immobile Goliath force, no?
His land force could not fight the mobility of Mutas at all

But not really many players coming through from Z. Soma is prob the only notable post-Kespa Z to break through to the elite levels.
P is especially bad. It has basically been the same group of guys since like 2007? The closest we've had to 'break through' P player is prob Snow, but he was around in the Kespa days - just didn't really hit his strides until ASL taking off.
Anyhoo, without the money available and team house structures of old I get that it's pretty difficult to get new blood into the game. But it is making the game a tad stale that there is little to no progression of talent in the BW scene.

So happy to see Soulkey get the triple! Been a fan of him since the KeSPA days, today he's such a well rounded player and especially late game monster. I have to say he was lucky this season there were so few zergs around though

For those who keep saying Sk cannot play zvsz or is weak zvsz, we are not in 2020 anymore. Not only has he improved on the match up, there is also very little competition for his zvsz.
Nowadays, saying Sk is struggling zvsz is like saying Mini is dominating in pvsz.

Larva?
I think Snow had a pretty strong win rate even in KeSPA era, even if he wasn't winning tours yet.

Larva was a B-teamer but never played a pro game IIRC. Soma is the only top player that never had a kespa license as far as I know.
Next best performing non-kespa player are players like Scan, Bishop, Huro, Motive, Zelot I think? Who are all still a big step down from the top players.
|
As the season is over I think Minstrel definitely ended up being my favorite new map. It's created some awesome and unique games (especially in KCM). I really hope they keep it on for another season with maybe a few balance changes.

Larva broke through as a top zerg but quit. Queen was already a top zerg. Killer momentarily broke into the top but then failed to stay there dropping to tier 2/3 zerg. Same with Action. Sacsri has been bumping against top level but cant break the barrier.
Brain was going to be a new top protoss player but quit competition because he gets 1500 viewers playing fastest map. Ssinz was starting to qualify for ASL frequently but got himself banned from competition. he has the talent but never reached the top because of it. Ruin and Motive have been improving but too slowly and dont seem to have what it takes to break top. Rich has promising play but needs to actually qualify first. Rain broke into top protoss.
For terran we have had Last, RoyaL, JyJ, sharp and now Speed breaking into top level. Barracks is almost there too.

Soulkey winning is kinda expected but I wish Sharp put up more fight. At least he didnt get sweeped I suppose.
|
Flash finally getting to challenge Soulkey, on their streams right now. + Show Spoiler +doesn't look pretty for Flash so far But he came back with a 3 Port Wraith build, 2-2 current score Final score 3-2 Soulkey still won

not surprised at the results, SK has been a beast in all the tournaments I've been watching him (race survival and ultimate battle)
