In an effort to stop SK, they have made anti-zerg maps this season. Ironically, this has helped SK, because other zergs were indeed stopped, but not SK, so no ZvZs, and we all know the only way to stop SK is ZvZ. If they make anti-zerg maps again next season, SK might achieve a four-peat. I would've said so back in 2020/2021 but SK has since improved his ZvZ quite a bit and now is on even foot if not better than other top Zergs.

I watched the VODs and I may have skipped over the best parts cuz it looked like the most boring TvZ finals ever to me. I was hoping Sharp would surprise a bit more and get at least 2 wins. The StarCastTV VOD length already spoiled it wasn't going to be a close series imo. I like that Soop makes their VODs 5 hours or something like that, it eliminates knowing how much time is left.

I agree 💯, but by nature, ZvZ is the most volatile matchup, build order and scouting luck plays a huge factor. Even the best Zerg player can't guarantee a win in ZvZ. Compare that to TvT. I think that's the essence of tesagi.

One thing for sure Protoss remains the shittiest race. 3 titles in 19 seasons, one that didn't really count (from Shuttle), one because they made a map pool that allowed 4Ps in the Ro4, and one because Mini lucked out with 12 Nexus. And before anyone wants to blame the players, just look at the number of Protoss champions during Kespa and in SC2. It can't be a coincidence in two games with a combined history of like 40 years?

Of course there is no coincidence. The closest we came with map balancing is P being visibly the weakest race, and tesagi being very real. Proping P up created even greater imbalances. 20 years of mapmaking didn't change this, and it is a fool's errand to hope it eventually will. BW is imbalanced, period, topped also by one broken mirror. For balance, look at today's wc3 for instance. BW can only be balanced via a patch, i.e. it never will be, unfortunately. And well done SK, nicely played. Sharp is not top level T imo, his finals to me is reminiscent of royal.

Effort OSL vs FlaSh SSL (SSL classic ) vs Free ASL(VSL) vs Bisu ASL vs FlaSh Soulkey: KSL vs Sharp ASL vs Mini ASL vs Hero ASL vs Sharp I honestly dont remember other players with such records. I know for Terran Iloveoov Also has a perfect win record in Starleague finals too with 3 MSL and 2 OSL. Actually in Soulkey case the record is not real when it comes to SC2. Just checked his sc2 liquipedia and he has many 2 places in Premier tournaments. For some reason i made up this story that he won GSL and quit sc2 LMAO. He actually won that GSL in 2013 and retired from SC2 in 2016.

unspecific quote to all those talking about SK Bonjwa status Jaedong did not become an ''official'' Bonjwa despite having won 3 OSLs in a row and having more premier/major tournament wins over Boxer and Nada, so why the fuck should Soulkey be one? All this ''banana champ'' talk is dull. On the other hand, only Soulkey and Rain are double SC2/SC champions in premier tournaments, so perhaps it is them who are to be considered true Bonjwas? Baaahhh... ANYWAY... This SSL1 was disappointing and the finals also sucked! SK wining this was like ''i am getting bored already'', ''another day in the office'', ''i wonder what kind of kimchi will my mom prepare for me this evening''...

edit: KeSPA Ranking Jaedong had a 4 month period and an 11 month period of being ranked 1. but do note they played more stage games but way less games than are now recorded on eloboard. If we are to determine bonjwa on eloboard rating we would already have Light and Queen as Bonjwas. Queen was super highly rated on sponbbang before Eloboard. Light was performing as good as soulkey is now back in 2020-2021 in online play, famously winnning 11 ultimate battle rounds in a row and dominating in KCM. he sadly didnt win a title in 2020 and 2021.

No, that is the tl.net definition after some dudes were making shit up to support their bonjwa argument. The original definition of Bonjwa if they are the overwhelming favorite against any possible opponent. Jaedong and Flash weren't bonjwas in 2007-9 since they had each other and it was arguably 50-50. Arguably, Flash was 2010 but then there was Effort. Boxer wasn't Bonjwa since there was his tvp. I disagree with Flash being Bonjwa. Even if he was the best player ever at this point and had the highest peak, and was favored against everyone, it wasn't as overwhelmingly favored as Savior against anyone in 2006-7. A bonjwa heavily depends on the competition as well and Savior simply didn't have any... Nada, July and OOv had each other and their 'dominance' which were at most very short-lived.

even though this is from 2010, waxangel gives a great response to the whole bonjwa debacle. there is also this article from 2009 translated from FOMOS that also goes into the bonjwa vernacular https://tl.net/forum/brood-war/105232-korean-column-savior-where-bonjwa-starts-and-ends On November 04 2024 08:25 Artas1984 wrote: Jaedong did not become an ''official'' Bonjwa despite having won 3 OSLs in a row no player has won 3 osl's in a row so you should fact check yourself before posting bullshit like it is factual and making yourself look like a moron.

Heck, Protoss players can't seem to beat Zerg either. Congrats to Soulkey regardless, he played very well and definitely earned the championship. Zerg were just 7 out of 28 this ASL season, with Terran making up the most with 12/28. 4 terrans made it to the ro8, only 2 zergs... Honestly this level of delulu is pissing me off. Yeah, it’s tempting to see a balance issue when one player dominates. I think it’s just a case of SK being really good. Sharp didn’t look like he had no chance, it looked like he had chances and got outplayed thoroughly. That drop in game 2 (i think) should have won him the game, same as that timing push that got crushed by that lurker flank. Let see if Flash can get back to his former glory. We need more star players, not maps that punish zergs needlessly.

SK just a lot better than everyone at the moment. Actually had a pretty difficult bracket and made it look easy. It kinda sucks we're not seeing much young talent come through the ranks these days. The scene feels a little stagnant TBH. It's the same players all the time and the competition hasn't been great in these big tournaments. Hopefully Flash coming back can reinvigorate things a bit. I'll always love BW but predictability seems to be going up and competitiveness down. Dunno how they fix it.
