I am rooting for Colombia hard, its time there is a new winner except brazil or argentina. Uruguay tied with Argentina iirc the teams with more wins. So its not like its rare for non BR/ARG to win. It would be the first for Colômbia i think, but its not like the other 2 share the wins between them. Colombia won in 2001.
I think Venezuela is the only country that has never won.
I'm glad the highest scoring team won this Euro. Spain had a very hard path too.

The most prestiguous title went unmentioned so far...
Congratulations Acrofales as the King of kings, emporer of the TL fantasy league. You are truely proven as the brightest mind above all and shall the the ultimate source of truth of all footie arguments here for the next 2 years.

Grats Acro!
I’m chuffed with my solid 12th place as I went with my tried and tested, honourable method of selecting a team for the first match week and sticking with it for the tournament :p

Argentina take home another Copa, my Inter lad Lautaro with the golden boot and my man crush one of my favourite players in James Rodriguez continues his redemption arc with the tournament MVP award.
On the other hand, organisationally what the fuck is going on over there? Seemed to be a lot of crowd issues and general chaos.
IIRC despite being in the US a lot was organised by COMEBOL, so maybe it isn’t any kind of thing to worry about when it comes to the World Cup, but still concerning for the sake of the Copa which was afflicted if nothing else

With no VAR cancelling two Lukaku goals when I captained him I'd have taken it!!
Grats Acro! Happy with first loser.

Final was close and could've gone either way and England ended up overall having a pretty decent tournament - after looking rather abysmal after the first 4 matches. This game and the one against Netherlands were both good. First half they neutralized Spain in a way no other team came close to, and the second half they were forced to change it up and did so successfully. France's path was harder than Spain!
Yeah because France had to play Spain while Spain only had to play France....

Englands path was way easier than Spains but Spain had to go through the toughest teams by far. Italy (ok well not this year but still) and Kroatia were strong, Germany obviously too and France was still super strong on paper.
Not only Spain won all games, they had to beat almost all top teams.
France would have lost to Germany 100%, also to England 100%.

France played Portugal Spain played Georgia
Do you really want to say Spain had a tougher road than France?

So you are going to cherry pick Spains easiest game and France hardest game, compare them and conclude Frances road was harder? You can't be serious

That was just one game, France played against Poland and couldnt win so if you wanna pick a game at random, France still underperformed and had it easier.

I think it's fair to say that netherlands austria poland portugal belgium is slightly harder than italy croatia albania georgia germany.
Especially this year where Italy frankly sucked and Croatia was rather meh. Kinda true for Portugal and Belgium too, I guess, but if I were to rank these 5 against each other it'd be something like Germany > Netherlands/Austria/Portugal/Belgium > Italy/Croatia > Georgia/Albania/Poland.

I give you that it might be easier BUT you cant ignore the performance France had against the "harder" teams. France had to rely on two own goals and one penalty. They had one goal that happened out of play (which was nice, ngl) in the whole tournament.
What I am trying to say is that the group looked harder because France sucked at playing football for some unknown reason.

Are you guys just arguing for argument's sake?
I didnt say France was better or Spain performed bad. I just said France's path to the semi-final was tougher than Spain's... Which is just plain true...

France took 2nd place in the group, so their Ro16 should have been harder. That's supposed to be the reward for taking the #1 spot in the group stage, which France failed to do. If they had taken #1, they would've faced Turkey, who in their highly entertaining match showed to be about even with Georgia! Instead they faced Belgium, who was probably worse than Georgia at this tournament...
And comparing Portugal with Georgia is a bit of a herpaderp, because you can either compare Georgia and Belgium (bit of a toss-up imho), or Portugal and Germany (and Germany was clearly the superior). The only bit of the route where France maybe had it harder was the group stage, but even then I'm not sure I'd rate NL, Poland and Austria over Croatia, Italy and Albania, and Spain aced their group...
|
Well if you say Belgium was worse than Georgia this will just help my claim of Switzerland being a top nation. :D
But then Austria, Poland and Netherlands is still a harder group than Italy, Croatia, Albania. Netherlands was a semi-finalist and Austria a very strong Ro16. Italy was a weak Ro16 and Croatia didnt even finish a strong 3rd place
|
Austria and Poland are underwhelming to mediocre teams, Austria overperformed quite a bit. Netherlands are the only top team that performed which France was facing, Belgium sucked from the very begining. Italy was def. stronger than Belgium and Croatia was 3rd place at the WC 2 years ago so they are not bad either. Spain won against both Croatia and Italy. Georgia was super entertaining to watch but sure, not the best team to have as opponent but Germany was way way stronger than whatever France had to face.
But yeah, I forgot its Sharkie...so yeah ofc you are right Sharkie, we dont know as much as you do when it comes to football!

Oh, I thought I had posted about Fantasy League win. Guess I never hit send. Thanks guys! I will use this evidence of my mad football props (and definitely not blind luck) to laugh at sharkie and tell him how obviously wrong he is
