England are absolutely brutalising the midfield, I think the Dutch have to do something to at least get some handle on it It worked, england danger level went down a lot. Still had the ball but back to the outside passing without much, specially as kane is never where he is supposed to xD Yeah I think Cowman made a good choice in hindsight, and we now have weghorst as well so we're good.

It would be very typical England if the one game they actually play well in be the one they get sucker-punched :p
That said while they did look the better side by a decent margin first half, they haven’t really created a huge amount of good chances either

I am sitting in a pub with obviously biased england fans and they all were super sure its a pen, I think the way from shot to the block was a bit short, Kane would need to stop the shot movement.
But it is what it is, nice chances for both sides.

Funnily enough the result I would hate most is if we won on penalties somehow. Our coach believes they're a lottery and denied help from a professor who studied PK's for two decades.

Clear penalty btw. as a neutral observer.

Nice goal. Can English players please stop falling over? Vvd even got carded when he did nothing

Is it coming home after all? :D

Oh well. At least that makes the term "golden generation" even more hilarious.

England deserved it more this game, was better than the snoozefest I expected!

F
Grats to England on their second place finish.

Well, that was bullshit. I guess overall, England was probably the stronger team, but the goal kinda came out of nowhere and I was getting ready for extension

Southgate can't keep getting away with this. Actually, he managed a fine game today and England played quite well with Walker getting more active and Trippier and Saka holding the width. Amazing how things change when you bring some balance to your squad.
Underperformers this game were Bellingham and Rice for me in the midfield. Felt quite lackluster and invisible. Mainoo carried the midfield today, what a player and so young.

southgate really should drop kane - he's been an absolute passenger these knock-outs.
time for celebration?

Mainoo carried the midfield today, what a player and so young. Bellingham definitely faded a lot but he had a pretty good first half at least IMO, and Rice was solid enough, if unspectacular. 6 or a 7/10 for me. Which I suppose is underperforming versus their best.
I did say earlier in this very thread that if the England team stepped it up to merely average a 7/10, and a few of their top players really brought their A game that’s enough to have a big swing in performance, it’s all you really need in most international games if you have the kind of quality an England do.
I think that’s pretty much what we saw today, everyone was solid at least and Foden and Mainoo were excellent. Kane was probably the worst performer but he wasn’t absolutely abysmal either. And if you’re going to have a rough day as a striker with his characteristics, the Dutch are almost the most likely in this tournament given who they’ve got shadowing him.
Should be an interesting final, it’s a one-off game and a test of nerve as much as real quality. A bit of fortune, a team freezing etc.
One tangible, actual andvantage England do have is the benches, if they can stay in touch with Spain. Maybe the only one outside of the squads equivalent strengths on paper.
Spain get noticeably worse when they have to make more than a few changes, they’ve lost control of a couple of games when they’re tiring and have to dip into that reserve. I think part of it was also opposition coaches correcting their selection errors too, but you saw both France and Germany really get back into those two games
England can actually get better off the bench, be it being able to replace tired legs with equivalent talents, or change things a bit tactically. Often this has been bailing them out from fucking it up to begin with to be fair.
Aside from penalties if England are to pull it off, assuming Spain don’t play atypically awful they have to just find a way stick in the game and have the time to maybe have that advantage count.
Spain have the better plan A, but they don’t really have much of a plan B that we’ve seen so far, it ends up looking like plan A, but worse as they tire.

Agree on Kane being largely absent this game, but he's felt very invisible for the entire tournament so far. I really liked the change with Watkins, and it feels like every time he goes on, he does a pretty good job.
