Back in the day, I installed bw itself onto a usb key - I could plug it into any computer and just run bw off the usb key itself. I haven't used shieldbattery in a long time but it launches from a web browser right? It just searches for the bw install files or something so I'm pretty sure if you put the necessary files onto a usb key it would work. Failing that, use my method of installing bw onto the key itself :D It will be possible i think but can we select brood war installation location. And this is not a good place for it but can anyone tell me online 1.16 servers if possible. I hate ICCup server because of koreans(when i make a barrack they send 1364357634 dark templars :D).

See this thread. tec27 also confirmed that they plan to fix SD graphics, at some point, as it is not a high priority. Fixing how Remastered renders SD graphics is on my planned roadmap, definitely not the highest priority thing though. This got me curious to know how much the TL community wanted it, so I made this poll. On January 28 2021 02:12 HaN- wrote: Poll: How important SD graphics getting fixed is for you? Can't wait (57) Don't care (54) 111 total votes Your vote: How important SD graphics getting fixed is for you? (I realize these sort of polls are to take with big a grain of salt because of the ridiculously small sample and because they are only directed to a specific category of the player base but still I think they have some value for what they are.) The results are interesting, it appears a lot more people care for SD graphics than I imagined. I have another question, this time about the colors that players can select or get assigned in the game. With patch 1.23.1 Blizzard extended the available color palette, which can cause visibility problems on the minimap. What does the TL community think of this extended color palette? To SB devs, would you guys consider reverting it back to the original colors only?

The old colour palette had no issues whatsoever so I'd say stick with that. If possible, make it so players can choose but from the older colours.

If that's not possible I have to agree, the new colors can be quite annoying in team games. This sounds fine to me. I like Magenta. Other solution would be to change which colours that are acceptable together. @Qikz do u play teamgames? That's where the biggest issue lies but I've had some situations in 1v1 where the new colours has caused unnecessary problems.

Not sure about a full revert, but we'll definitely do *something* to address the situation with colors, especially in team games. An easy fix would be to just curate the possible colors a bit better, and filter the ones that are obviously too similar to another color. Eventually, we might expand the shift-tab functionality to work in team games as well. So in addition to green/red divide, we could add a couple of more primary colors to clearly distinguish team mates and opponents (cold colors for team mates and warm colors for opponents perhaps?) that will be consistent across games.

As much as I like the original 8 colours even there people had trouble seeing and distinguish orange/brown on certain maps. BW already had extended colours since release afaik like peach, green and black, expect they were not available (nor pickable) on most map, but ice hunters for example had it. Allowing to pick colours also fucks up a lot of ums. Imho magenta has no place among the original colours, but I believe a tone of pink is definitely a good idea as it doesn't interfere with the game play. In that regard it's actually a better colour than brown or orange. I would prefer just 8 colours for non-ums games and you can make them pickable to please the crowd I guess. Remove orange/brown, add in pink and another colour - green?+ Show Spoiler + Aside from orange and brown together causing conflict, you also need to consider terrain. On orange maps orange and brown cause issues, on jungle terrain maps green and brown cause issues, right? On space maps all 10 colours above seem to work fine, but not kakaru... I'm quite convinced there is not much room to have anything above 8 colours to not cause problems... Is it even possible at all if you take into account colour blindness?

Both of those ideas are right on point. Adding new colors wasn't a bad move by Blizzard, but some of the new colors are too similar, and others are too advantageous on certain terrain/minimap (looking at you, black).

That or just make it so you can set in settings what colours you want your opponents to be on your screen as a shift tab option kinda. I think the current black is pretty horrible no matter how you slice it. The ability to select what shift + tab does would be great long-term in other cases, like observing/watching replays, too. Just making allies yellow, enemies red, is just not as useful as it could be in a 3v3 where identifying exactly what army/units are coming to you (or where your ally is) could be important.

I love the current black, it looks great on units and if your problem is zerg creep just shift tab so your minimap shows your enemies as red, makes perfect sense already.

Sure, for 1v1 it is no problem, I play as Teal vs. Red every game of 1v1 anyway. I don't think I've ever even played a map that had my opponent in black in 1v1, but frankly I probably wouldn't even notice. I meant more in context of team games, where shift tab is not an option if you want to be able to tell who is attacking with what where from the minimap.

Surely if it's a teamgame you can just get people to pick colours before the game begins, I'm not sure why this is causing such a huge issue for teamgame players o_O

I mean, you're running a team league (but where it's only 1v1) and you had to implement a top vs bottom rule (which makes it look like everybody is bad mannered because they keep typing gg on ally chat) because there were too many games with too similar colors. This problem began after the new color palette was added. I'm fine with expanding beyond the original amount, but some of the new ones (and black is the worst) should be removed, and if the options are a) keep the original or b) keep the expanded then I'm going with option a.

I had to implement that rule because nobody wanted to pick colours deliberately and it gave me the option of shift tabbing. If someone is picking black in the lobby and won't change can't you just kick them? I don't see why limiting the number of colours we can have in 1v1 because of team games is good, because it's not like the original colours didn't have issues as well. If you could somehow make it so you as a player can select what colours you can see your opponents as then that would be the best situation. In settings if this works like this you could say I want: 1 (Player) to always be X 2 (Player) to always be X 3 (Player) to always be X 4 (Player) to always be X 5 (Player) to always be X 6 (Player) to always be X 7 (Player) to always be X 8 (Player) to always be X With X being whatever colour from the pallette and then shift tab could be set to go to those values. Unfortunately I don't know how easy this is, but given that's how Shift tab works in the current code to set to Red vs Teal I wonder if you could do that. It solves the problem for everyone without removing colours that look really nice. The blue they removed that looked like minerals looked amazing on units for instance.
