If you’re good enough people will vote for you. Results should matter. His results really aren’t all that historically different from Scarlett’s though Scarlett would win any ‘fair’ vote held from now until the end of time, which isn’t really particularly fair either if we’re considering competitive strength

That said. Lambo and Elazer are some of the most entertaining zergs in the world. I can't be upset but... I feel bad for Reynor. Unless I am miss understanding something, he is now solidly in the conversation of top nonkorean. I can't complain, my metric isn't yours, but I feel bad. Starcraft skill is so fleeting. A moment in the sun and then your done. Reynor did the work and if he was from a different country, I am sure he would top the list.

I'm a massive Scarlett fan, and I voted for her here, but this is the nature of GSL vs The World. It didn't go the way I wanted this time but I can accept the result.

Reynor is still in at the moment with almost 700 votes more than Scarlett! Elazer should tell people to vote Reynor now that he is in for sure, Reynor is too good at the moment not to go to GSL vs The World.

The main way that he got all the votes, was b/c a different polish youtuber recommended everyone do it. Elazer could jump up and down telling anyone who'll listen to vote for Reynor, he'll never reach the same wide audience

I don’t think popularity contests have a place at a tournament such as this, they’re fraught with problems. Either Scarlett default wins vs Elazer by having a bigger community fanbase, or Elazer pulls ahead as he does. Either feels a bit against the competitiveness of the scene. If it’s an organic popularity contest the likes of Elazer will always lose, if an outside influence skews the results hugely then general actual SC2 community’s sentiment is completely thrown out. Neither are particularly good situations IMO.

Both Kela and Elazer are both voted in by people that couldn't give two shits about SC2

If you’re good enough people will vote for you. Results should matter. Please don’t blame Elazer for this. His reputation shouldn’t be smeared because of something (likely) out of his control. The issue with a tournament like this is either a) you leave it up to community vote which results in issues like this, or b) you make it results-based which would then make the tournament redundant with Blizzcon finals. The only way you can make this work is if you took all players who have WCS/GSL points and let the players vote for who they want to see represent their respective regions. Sure, there may be issues with popularity contests, but it’s way more controllable and probably more honest amongst the players. There may be players that the pros/amateurs vote in that don’t correlate directly with WCS/GSL rankings, and it would be cool to see fellow pros come out in support for their fellow competitors. Otherwise, there really is no perfect system.

Otherwise, there really is no perfect system. That sounds like a way to foster cliquiness and resentment between players. And you say there's no perfect system, but they could just hold qualifiers amongst the top uninvited players and it would be way better.
