The issue with a tournament like this is either a) you leave it up to community vote which results in issues like this, or b) you make it results-based which would then make the tournament redundant with Blizzcon finals. The only way you can make this work is if you took all players who have WCS/GSL points and let the players vote for who they want to see represent their respective regions. Sure, there may be issues with popularity contests, but it’s way more controllable and probably more honest amongst the players. There may be players that the pros/amateurs vote in that don’t correlate directly with WCS/GSL rankings, and it would be cool to see fellow pros come out in support for their fellow competitors. Otherwise, there really is no perfect system. The situation is out of his control, but he should have forseen it when he went to the youtuber for help. It is his fault.

And you say there's no perfect system, but they could just hold qualifiers amongst the top uninvited players and it would be way better.
A qualifier among the top uninvited players would be perfect IMO. wed get more starcraft matches and it would make it interesting if the players had to play their way onto the team

there is really nothing wrong with elazer tbh.
if SKT still had sc2 team , they would surely ask Faker to help promoting
same thing to any player with Big org.
on other hand .... maybe TL guys can ask DL as well

Elazer has more votes than showtime, heromarine and reynor combined lmao

Look, Elazer put us in this situation. Between Reynor and Scarlett (who I feel were the deserving candidates to go) I can be okay with Scarlett missing although it’s a disappointment. I am not okay if Reynor doesn’t go after the year he’s been having. And that is a fact. But still - bush league Elazer. Bush league.

did my citicens duty: -Get up your a...! -register! -vote!

Improvement suggestion for next year:
TL Accounts opened for less than a month are restricted from participating in voting process.
All votes are required to vote for all entries (you must vote for six people, two people per race, one Korean, one Circuit.) REASON: Look at the total # of World Zerg votes. People signed up and voted only in that category. Period.

Another way could be you can only vote one day after you've created an account. Would stop 99% of the driveby voters without stopping people who are actually interested in the game.

It's great that 10k people (I'm being really generous, it's probably closer to the full 11k), who won't even watch the tournament, are able to influence the results for who gets to go for the foreigners. Elazer's logic is faulty. He's appears to be jealous that Scarlett has more of an organic fan base than he does. It's obvious why more people would like her after he pulled this move and complained that Scarlett got to go over him previously because of her popularity and not ranking (overall Scarlett technically has more points than Elazer this year, they're just not all WCS points because of her performances at GSL). This is a lot of drama just to watch him lose 0-3 to a Korean. He MIGHT take one game if he plays against Fantasy.
One possible fix is: Any account (it doesn't matter the age) that voted for only one person should be removed from the results at the end of voting, and only people who voted for at least two people out of the three races should have their votes count. It's understandable if some people refused to vote for a certain "overpowered" race.
It would be a band-aid for this year's vote until a better voting mechanism could be implemented for next year. You can only call this a fan tournament if actual SC2 fans have an influence on the vote.

Idk why you SC2 "fans" are that upset. Elazer is in the AGO esports team, and the community face of this team (that bad bold Youtuber) asked the community to vote for him.
Even if the votes are not coming from the SC2 players they are coming from the AGO esports fans.
No one breaks the rules here, and imo these votes are Ethically good sourced.

I said the same thing earlier. Only accounts which are linked to Battle.net with purchased versions of SC2 are eligible to vote (because you can have free sc2 accounts)
Alternatively you could also accept free accounts if they have a certain amount of games played in the last few months. This might prevent some people from voting who only watch but don't play but it would also prevent non-starcraft fans from voting.

fucxxxx elazer,i hate you.

what the fuck elazer????!?!?!? is he really willing to sacrifice his reputation like this. reynor has a chance to win and hes had such a year, we all know elazer has no chance. this is bullshit
|
This is upsetting because those who voted for elazer won't even watch the tournament. And us true SC fans have to deal with the consequences. I will root for whoever goes against elazer from now on.

I posted on reddit, but seriously, popularity/support is the point of these polls. Get over it people. I want Reynor to go, but Elazer apparently has a larger reach as shown by his supporter base.
Moreover, this post above is literally just spreading misinformation, Elazer posted that he did NOT request it, but even if he did, it's literally within his rights to do so. It's a popularity contest .... -_-
So many children who won't get their candy and they're crying. Silly people.

I understand people being upset, but your frustration is directed at the wrong thing. It's not Elazer's fault that the voting system is like this, the whole idea of fan voting makes these things possible. If you really want the best lineup of both sides, then there should be qualifiers, and to keep the voting side as well (which I find pretty fun tbf) only the last spot would be voted in.
