And so much respect for his theorycrafting, meta piled on meta piled on meta. I think the last one that was brief and got a bunch of people all riled up happened while FlaSh was travelling so, which could explain why he gave such short answers.

Q: Of all the players you have met, whose way of thinking about the game was most close to your own? A: (long pause) I don’t know. To be honest, I think no one sees the game like I do. To be more accurate, every pro sees the game differently. Based on what I have learned by discussing the game with other pros, the way each pro sees the game is not just different but, dramatically different. Furthermore, because each player has had a lot of success, they have a lot of pride and conviction in their way of thinking. This is one of the most mysterious and cool aspects of StarCraft. There are so many people doing well with their own unique styles. This is what makes a game so great, people doing their own thing, in their own way, all achieving greatness.

Ah, I should have mentioned it in the captions. In the VOD you mention (time link, Flash goes add-on > vulture > speed upgrade BEFORE starport. It's part of his metagame psycho warfare in this case. Using the 100 gas on vulture speed first delays the starport to 25 in that VOD. Here's another VOD that is more typical with 22 starport. The han-bang in the same game is even faster (8:40 time link) One other thing that I should have mentioned is that there is a gas cut @88 gas before building the factory and the SCVs are put back on gas immediately when the factory completes. I know a lot of you know about that, but this was a general interest article after all. Maybe BigFan can add it in. Just a point about the 1-1-1 build order: Because of all the variations that start immediately after the factory completes, the build orders are hard to pin down. The way that the pros have been talking about the 1-1-1 build order is similar to how a lot of Protoss build orders are described after expanding (e.g., build this when you have X and Y). So in the case of the 1-1-1, the starport is built when you have 100 gas rather than at a specific pop count. This way, you can think about many variations just by their order. vulture >> starport >> machine shop >> mines >> wraith machine shop >> vulture >> starport >> speed >> wraith vulture >> machine shop >> starport machine shop >> ebay >> starport It seems that the common point is to build these things when you can without cutting SCVs. The only time you could have the need to cut SCVs is to make science facility as fast as possible when you have the gas. The other time is if turret defense is desperately needed. Flash won't cut SCVs for turrets unless it is absolutely necessary, but there are times when it is needed. Maybe it's needed against 2-hatch muta.
