Well, yeah. But then again the actual matches are played on a P2P basis. The actual servers don't do much of anything and could probably be run on standard consumer grade hardware. Closing those servers would carry unnecessary badwill just to save what, $500/year in electricity and maintenance costs? It's peanuts to them and probably gains them money from being seen as good guys who care about their consumers. Moving everything to bnet 2.0 seems much more likely than closing bnet 1.0 with no replacement. Also they're obviously not using the same "ancient original bnet servers", you think they still have servers from 1998 running the show? They've obviously migrated that shit to more efficient modern hardware multiple times by now.

As long as BW: HD doesn't have SC2 mechanics (please lord), there will be only a few SC2 people that will make the switch and stay with it, I think. The transition is pretty difficult, and I expect that while many may try, most casual players will just go back to SC2 because it is more user-friendly.

Actually I dont want BW that is in fact not BW to rise. And as spectator, I dont even care about non-korean BW at slightest.

What's the point of 'leaking' this to 'industry insiders' at a convention devoted to announcing and promoting your own products? because then they can't announce it on April 1st actually, a lot of April 1st announcements became real products, like the Panda hero in wc3

So true, it's as if people have forgotten all about what splitting the player base means and the detrimental effects it brings, especially to a relatively fragile community such as BW. And I never understood the need or even desire to bring any e-sport to a more "global" level at the cost of the more competitive scene. If the best players are Korean, let me watch Koreans. Don't handicap the scene just so iNcontrol & co can make a comeback. User was warned for this post

Its hard to think how much nicer the zergling can look when it is pixel limited. If they're really calling it "HD" then that heavily implies that all sprites and map assets and etc will be redone in higher resolutions.

Don't handicap the scene just so iNcontrol & co can make a comeback. Jingoism and tribalism are not very had to conceptually understand, but I agree with your sentiment. Those kinds of tertiary factors don't contribute, and can detriment *cough* a game like StarCraft. However, there needs to be something said about the potential growth resulting from a more global source of funding and player talent. Unlikely as hell in this case, of course, but it's still there. I'm sure if foreigners could easily donate balloons (didn't I see something about that recently?) then at least some of them would. That's just a small example. Also, that's a bit harsh on inc, I don't know what he did to deserve that lol ): BW hasn't been known for that kind of mentality for about a decade at least. I heard that it was pretty damn popular and brought a lot of people back to regular AoE2 (myself included).

Check out the infamous SotG episode where he's teaming up with DjWheat bullying Destiny for daring to suggest SC2 isn't perfect. It's riddled with classic inc quotes such as "go look at the BW streaming section, there's like four viewers" all while wearing a smug smirk on his face. He's the archetypical "just get with the times, man, and stop playing that old 2D game" guy who somehow got away with it because he's famous. Anyway, I'll stop there and won't discuss it further. My original quote wasn't directed specifically at him, hence the "co" part. There's just a large contingent of vocal good-but-not-great foreigners who have dictated the public discourse regarding SC for a long time. It's time we broke free and gave credit were credit is due: great players. In conclusion I just hope that the HD version either plays completely the same so we can all move to it, or is so different that it'll just become a novelty. It's the middle ground that risks dividing us.

it's like for any old board game when the company switches from wood to plastic for producing pieces and tokens making all the flair go away...
