But I also question the reasoning behind bringing MAGA hats to this event in the first place! Why would you do that? Elections are over, you don't have to rub it into peoples eyes what you voted for! Get over it! Oh well, I already cringed during the Zelda run, when the runner was called out for "assuming gender" of the monsters. Seriously? Link(the runner) is throwing bombs, hacking with a sword, shooting arrows, ... at the enemy, but using the false pronoun is wrong?

These guys are well known shit stirrers - they were given final warnings upon entering the venue. The assuming genders thing was just a joke though.

But yeah, this flair is gone... romscout tweeted some really cool pictures from CGDQ! Oh those memories... Reminds me of the first GDQ I watched. Think it was basically in some guys living room on a big couch. Think that was one of the lsat ones before it became like popular and thing with venues etc.. I have work this week so I wont be able to catch much. I kinda liked both the OOT and the BL2 run though. couldnt care less for drama.

Never had this game on my rader for real... And seems the races were nice; but in the night... have to catch the VODs!

I don't like the direction GDQ is going at all. I'm the first to express my disappointment with them. But these guys deserved to be banned. These guys were already on zero tolerance policy beforehand and warned because of all their shitstiring and then they decided to ignore the rules just to stir some more shit up. Hating GDQ for THIS is just dumb.

If there is drama behind it or whatever doesn't matter to me as a viewer. Biggest improvement they could do is having two sets so the downtime isn't as long as it is currently, one playing and one setting up while that is happening.

Note that this isn't a bad thing. Folks who say it's "gone to shit" are being very opinionated. The event clearly still has a huge audience and they still do a great thing by raising tons of money. But it shouldn't be that surprising that people who got interested or invested in it 5+ years ago don't like it now. Not really unusual for events or communities that grow over time. This all neglecting any sort of drama or whatnot that was mentioned earlier. Whole different topic I know nothing about.

Also had hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers, and surely millions in total. Minor drama is going to be unavoidable but clearly it didn't make the charity marathon any less popular

And with $1.3M already and about 8-10 hours left, should get $1.5M+... might be the highest total out of all the GDQs? Either way, this marathon has already been a huge success for speedrunning and for cancer research
