I never was too fond of ladders. They're full of random guys whose names I don't recognize - their scalp wasn't worth playing for.
Last season, something changed and I found 'other things' to play for. However, the realisation came far too late and when I started playing only one week remained of the season. Nevertheless I managed to get hold of B- rank, and I actually got some really nice games out of it. This time I'll be in from the beginning.
I played 10 games today, and ouh hell. Some guys already put up a fight =) Thrice I was close to losing already in the early game but in the end I managed to keep the perfect record all day through.
Today's choice of strategy:
ZvP: 12 hatch; spire opening vs fe and 4 hatch hydra vs 1base. However, I went 5 hatch mass hydra out of pure desperation vs fe in one game.
ZvT: 12hatch; 3 hatch mutalisk, all drone early-game. Gas on 18 and a rather early fourth hatch (just slightly after spire). Mass lurker/ling with upgrades were favoured over an early hive today. I find that playstyle to be the overall safest zvt build.
ZvZ: -- No games played.
Alof of people are double gate rushing me. I've found it best to stay on 2 hatcheries vs this and when your initial 8 lings hatch you bring out 2 drones with them to build a sunken in your natural. If they're really heavy on probes you'd probably need 3 drones and 2 sunkens instead. You bring that extra drone incase one of them dies before you can plant a creep.
The key is to not bring out the drones too early, let them hit on the hatchery instead of on creep colonies. Build the creeps first when you've got zerglings to harass with, else the sunks will die before you can make use of them.

good stuff, i've been mass gaming about 30 games a day on iccup and i get cheesed 50% of the time i wan't out of D -_-a

I agree about the 2 gate junk, the hell?
FE, get hydra speed/range, 3rd hatch, lair, take 3rd. Mass muta, especially if they are 1-base double-gating - Least thats what Day[9] told me to do :D

I find 1gate a lot more successful than 2gate or even fe. since everyone 9pools you are ahead in economy and your super early reaver or sair/speedlots/archon will do some serious damage or at least make him sacrifice drones for units. But then again, I rarely make 2gate cause I fear not having enough gas when the mutas starts rampaging. It's hell.

I'm finding my two gate to be super effective.

Haha so is it unacceptable to go 2 gate now all of a sudden? That used to be one of the most standard strats. I don't see why not when you get close positions and have good micro. Just look how Stork humiliated foreigners with it in wcg.
2 gate is about as 'cheesy' as 2 fac, as in: not at all. I never hear champions whine about cheese, it's always been a great and interesting addition to the psychological aspect of the game. Most of the times it is easily counterable if you know how to. People who whine about cheese are so annoying.

Hey cool blog, I got your rep of the day which was a nice watch. Those were cool unit transitions, looked really smooth.
Since there's some Z players in here and I don't wanna make a whole thread for it, could someone quickly tell me if there's a difference for 11pool and 12pool in ZvZ?

Not really, but use the 12 pool if you have to choose either of those two.
|
The spire one vs fe or the 4 hatch hydra one vs fe or that last way out 5 hatch hydra one?

That's either brilliant or suicidal. Don't you ever encounter early aggression? How do you scout when he moves out, and what do you do to be prepared for it?
edit: I'm understanding your quote as saying you don't make any lings at all.
Good blog btw.

Good blog btw. i assume he makes 2-4 lings to kill the scv scout and watch for enemy movement
