Crowning national / continental champions built up a nice storyline. Of course, it was pretty much clear that a Korean would win the finals, but still everyone was hyped back then. That said, you definitely can't compare 2012 to 2016. Back then, we had multiple big companies running regular tournaments, right now, there's nothing much left. I actually think it was great, but it wasn't a good wcs system because it was more like a one event thing. It basically was like WCG, which in itself is a great concept ofc but not enough to sustain the foreigner scene i think. I think having actual tournaments again which run for some time, with group stages, etc like wcs 2014 is the way to go. Completely region locked and more effort put into building star players through extra content (like the videos we got this blizzcon) Weekend tournaments could still exist in that system and maybe you wanna region lock some of them, personally i would prefer completely open but if there are a good number of "global" ones that would be ok too. I am not saying it would work RIGHT NOW that way, but it would have been a decent system a few years ago i think. Was just a day one thing

Everybody makes mistakes and you will always have some factors you aren't happy with. . Valve literally just fucked over one of their biggest third party tournaments by scheduling their 'Major' at the same time as dreamhacks Dreamleague

But looking at the bigger picture Valve and even Riot (i hate RIOT btw) do a better job and show more expertise at handling their scenes. But yeah bad topic for this thread, sry to bring up the low viewer numbers i guess. Hoping for at least 70k today

Hoping for at least 70k today I dunno LoL ratio of viewers/post on reddit/TL is really really bad compared to starcraft. It's possible to double post on LL even after watching a 30mn game, so absurd.

It apparently did not work all that well because at the end of the day people wanna see fan favorites and the average foreigner simply isn't a fan favorite at all in the current scene. Right now we have 55k for blizzcon which is a bad joke tbh. Last year it was over 80k for the quarterfinals. The current WCS system helped foreigners to get better, i won't deny that. But it didn't work at all regarding viewer numbers, it's a big failure in that regard and yes i think that's absolutely partly due to how it all worked this year. And last year there was no overwatch On November 06 2016 01:11 Poopi wrote: I dunno LoL ratio of viewers/post on reddit/TL is really really bad compared to starcraft. I actually had a basic idea of what would happen today if i would have had the passion to continue. But at the same time most "foreshadowing" you saw is probably not intended at all (if you are being serious ) Still, was fun to write yesterday even though i had to be lazy with Zest vs Stats out of time reasons :/ On November 06 2016 01:22 Elentos wrote: I wonder how many potential Blizzcon viewers the matchfixing scandals - and specifically losing Life - cost the scene. I would guess that it wasn't the biggest deal tbh. Was Life a big fan favorite for more casual viewers? Dunno about that.

I wasn't really talking about casual viewers. If you're losing casual viewership the problem is the game and how it's being presented to the audience (but we don't even have concrete evidence if we're losing casual viewers or people who used to be regular viewers). But Life was undeniably a big fan favorite. He appeared in many non-Korean tournaments, he actually displayed more personality than many of the other "faceless Koreans", he even made 2 Blizzcon finals. He was one of the guys casual fans might have actually seen play during the year before Blizzcon. It definitely hurt.
