Insane play by Neeb! So exciting battles. Love the disruptors! What a godlike control!
GG! Agreed that it was very entertaining. Don't really understand all the Disruptor-bashing, feels a lot better than the colossus era or mass tempest vs tempest to me but to each their own. Well done Neeb! That's kind of like saying dog shit is better than dog shit drowned in vomit and rancid donkey shit You're not wrong but they're all still shit watching the same composition run in circles shooting balls at each other for 20 minutes with units dying every 5 exchanges is an insult to starcraft I don't think it was dog shit at all though. I was at the edge of my seat throughout the entire game with every hit having the possibility of changing the outcome of the game. How both players kept dodging the hits, knowing how on edge they must be in terms of scouting and having to deal with harass whilst making sure a sneak disruptor hit doesn't go off is amazing.
Oh it's definitely ridiculously skill-intensive. The skill involved in this composition and type of play must be insane. Unfortunately it's rubbish to watch, at least for me. Exchanges like that are intense when they last for seconds at a time, not twenty minutes at a stretch. At some point the tension turns into frustration. And then it ends when someone messes up once, regardless of whatever else happened before. 90% of SC2 in a nutshell I guess.

Great run from Need. No denying that.
I think the main differences between KR and non-KR (here Need vs the others at least), was the general approach of the game. Neeb was more on the side 'this works better', and KR 'I should do this better'. Typically, even with his excellent micro early game and the advantages he took against Trap and Stats, Neeb always found a moments where he was behind in both worker and army supply entering mid game. The mechanics of his opponent were more rounded, even playing from behind. However, he just made the best of it.
Personally sad for the players I cheered for, and the huge biais in the final. Not the hype and the fact that Need was indeed the favourite, but the fact that when they both do the same thing, if Neeb succeeds its 'excellent', if Trap succeeds, it's 'not so bad' (literally).

Heck, there are even less builds in TvT than PvP cause reapers.

Neeb proved that PvP is his best matchup, but I really do need to see him play against a good zerg/terran for once. Cause this cup looked too easy for him with all those disruptors winning every single match. Koreans don't underestimate foreigners, especially not the top ones. Neither of them lost because they underestimated him :x.

GG! all you see is whining? wow Okay, not ALL But, c'mon, How was that awful and bad/boring games as so many were saying? Don't get it. I mostly see people congratulating Neeb on a great run that will undoubtedly make history. Oh, you can't see your own disruptor-hate? That's why. don't see how that's whining, and I never wrote that the games had been awful / bad / boring... Now that you ask it, what I saw was quite enjoyable and exciting because of the historic value. Doesn't change the fact I don't think disruptors do any good to the game and to players wrists in the end. How's disruptors any different to players wrists than the rest of the game? did you ever play a disruptor PvP ? Did you ever FIND the options for hotkeys?? we found ourselves some last-word freak.

The thing I enjoyed the most about this KeSPA Cup is the response from the community. If we combined all the threads here on TL I reckon we'd get at least 4,5 k posts on the subject. Good to see people are vocal about the event.

Can't say it was fun watching disruptor dance at all.
This was the first tournament watchin LoTV and here I though Blizzard would have made the game more small scale battles, more things here and there on the map.
Instead it's still two armies dancing around each other and then BOOM there goes all your units in one go and it's over. It has the potential to do that, yes. However, often it's a long slugfest with disruptors only getting small hits in a near constant battle. Neeb was down most the game but it was only with consistently better micro over like 8+ minutes that he brought it back
That's why disuptors are so great. Not so much that they're some random stressful thing where one shot can ruin you, but because between two good players they really give you the chance to come back and slowly pick away at the opponent. Compare that to the game that went late game with the mass of tempests. Whoever has more just wins, and there's no way to really retreat or do much.

So in the end it kinda boils down to this ; personally, I can't really appreciate a strategy game in which 25 minutes can be ruined by one misclick or one time you looked at another place. Arguably, it happens with other things (widow mines hits for instance), but I never said I liked those things any more. But it sure creates entertaining games. So, do we want a comfortable game for the players that allows them to display actual strategic play, or do we like this every second ordeal aspect that is sure very intense to watch but excruciatingly hard and mentally exhausting for the players, resulting in games in which you'd rather make no glaring mistake than try to outthink your opponent ? I agree, but I don't think that's really the case here. There were times when Trap or Neeb lost a dozen stalkers or 5-6 disruptors in a single hit, yet there were still plenty of opportunities to get back into the game. The last game went back and forth so many times despite the small or large mistakes made by the players. If you make a huge blunder, you're out, but that's been the case in every matchup (bar possibly pre-LotV TvT) since SC2 began. There's also plenty of strategy still involved in positioning, expansion choice, shading in with adepts or not, harass, and so on. It felt like a very complete game to me.

There were definitely big hits towards the end even though there was no singular game-winning one. I guess I'm just not used to this kind of poking where it's common for there to be no casualties for extended periods of time. It's long and it's a slugfest, yes, but the epic is few and far between.

Please name games were mistakes don't matter. You didn't see any strategical moves in Neebs games today? When people say these kind of things I always wonder what the game would look like. It's not supposed to be exhausting or hard and you should be able to make mistakes without risking to lose the game. Pure easy strategy? Is there such a thing?
Mistakes were made in all of todays games. Some of them did cost more than others. In the end the BETTER player won. That's amazing!

I had to sleep during the Trap vs TY series, but it's amazing to wake up to this. Congrats Neeb! Repeats history after 16 years.

That's kind of like saying dog shit is better than dog shit drowned in vomit and rancid donkey shit You're not wrong but they're all still shit watching the same composition run in circles shooting balls at each other for 20 minutes with units dying every 5 exchanges is an insult to starcraft I was at the edge of my seat throughout the entire game with every hit having the possibility of changing the outcome of the game. The sad thing is I'm pretty sure we could have a constructive chat if we were talking directly to each other. Here it's absolutely impossible because every time someone comes across something he doesn't like he gets upset and overheated and doesn't even consider the rest of the argument, or caricatures it grossly.
I think those games are not what's desirable for SC2 although I'm really admiring of what Neeb accomplished ; you enjoy those games and that's perfectly fine -though I'll admit I'd be a little bothered if you were thinking something alongside the lines of "something exciting happened, everyone talking about anything else or not being hyped about it should be hanged, drawn and quartered".
I don't see the point of discussing the matter any further.
