Not too long ago, Team Liquid released several of their team members from the roster, retaining only the Duran brothers LucifroN and VortiX. After a brief search, they found their first recruit in none other than Lowell, former team captain of Fnatic. Lowell is well known for his flexibility and curious ingenuity that allows him to think outside the box, both of which synergize well with Team Liquid’s reputation for being inventive. Following Liquid’s victory at Fragbite Masters, we asked Lowell to answer some questions so we can find out where he came from and what the plans for his future on Team Liquid are.
First of all, congratulations on winning Fragbite Masters earlier today! How was it playing against your former team in the finals?
Thanks a lot, really happy with our play today! Well, it was good because it meant both teams got to the finals, and I think both sides put on a good show for the viewers!
You were one of the two remaining original Fnatic players when the team reformed earlier this year. Was it hard to leave Fnatic behind or do you feel like you’re ready to move on and they’ll be okay?
Playing for Fnatic was great, but after EU regionals the roster knew it was in everyone's best interests to split up. They will be more than ok without me, they have already proved it in many games, and I couldn't wish for a better home than this roster in Team Liquid, so everyone is happy and will be stronger from this.
What drew you to Team Liquid after leaving Fnatic? How did you end up with them?
I've always wanted to play with LucifroN and VortiX, so when the opportunity presented itself I was happy to take it and thankful to have it.
What role will you be taking on for TL? On Fnatic, you were a Flex player leaning toward tankier/more survivable heroes. Will you do the same for TL? Along those same lines, I know you were the captain on your former team, so will you be taking on any sort of leadership role on TL?
I'll mostly keep playing bruisers and melee assassins, but there have been times where I ended up playing ranged damage to fit some team compositions. I can adapt a lot to the team's needs, as can everyone else in the roster! If there are any out of game leaders in this roster, it's LucifroN and VortiX because they are by far the most experienced. They've been in esports for years and years and we're all happy to follow them.
Tell me about this bruiser Monk build you busted out...was this a result of the scaling changes or have you had this in your back pocket for a while now?
Well, Kharazim has always been one of the coolest heroes to play in my opinion, I just needed a team that would let me play him :D. I wouldn't say he is a pocket pick with this build or anything, it's just one of the many "unusual" uses of Heroes we believe in. We still have a lot of those in store, no worries!
Does you favor WoW-themed heroes because you used to play WoW regularly or is that just a random and awesome coincidence?
It's a bit of both I guess. Some Warcraft heroes are just really good in game and some others are just so cool lore-wise that you have to play them if/when they are released (VARIAN AND VALEERA, I AM LOOKING AT YOU).
Thank you so much for your time, and we’re happy to welcome you into the Liquid family :D. Is there anything else you want to add?
Thanks for having me! Of course, I'd like to thank Team Liquid for this opportunity and everyone who supports our new roster. We'll do our best to live up to your expectations! As for the people who've been following me, I will do everything I can to keep improving, and to redeem myself if I've disappointed you in the past. Please, keep giving me your positive energy!
We'd like to thank Lowell for taking the time to answer these questions, and we're more than happy to have him with us at TL! Over the next few weeks, Team Liquid is playing in several minor leagues such as OGSeries Storm League and Heroes Battle Arena, and they will be heading to the big stage at http://wiki.teamliquid.net/heroes/DreamHack_2015/Winter tomorrow.
