I just started my 2nd attempt at Tuscany and got screwed over by it. I took the "Take Ancona" misson and declared war on Urbino on day 1. A year later, when I was almost done with the siege, Aragon allied with them and the Naples army came to roll over me. When I saw that they had suddenly a new ally who would help them in the war I tried to do the same (had Austria+Venice relations up), but obviously they wouldn't accept an alliance while I'm at war. This sucks so much and it's also pretty random, because in my first Tuscany game I took Urbino without anything like this happening.

I don't quite understand why you sometimes get the full -1000 and sometimes only this smaller modifier but it saved my Byzantium run because I could ally Austria after Ottomans declared war on me and call them in But if Urbino only got the small modifier they can easily still ally Aragon because of protective attitude (that's a +50 modifier)

This has happened to me a number of times when I started day 1 wars (even back in EU3). I've learned to just not roll the dice any more and let them get their starting alliances and work from there.

And now this has to take the crown of absurdity. Ottomans had a 3rd war going against crimea. Crimea attacked ottomans to get a province. After a white peace, they immediately allied them and joined the war. Nice.

Just finished my first game ever, thought I would post a small report as those were the reason I bought this game in the first place :-) Anyway, very awesome game, feels super-epic, although I think the early and the midgame are a bit more fun than the late game. I really struggled in the first 100 years or so screwing up a lot trying to conquer the smaller nations around me simply because I did not understand the alliance/vassal mechanics. I also bought way too much buildings setting me behind on tech a lot (but giving me infinite money pretty quickly :-) ). After I started understanding things it became really cool though. Basically my gameplan after I got hold of the basics was conquering as many downstream trade nodes from constantinople. After this I had pretty much infinite money/manpower, although I was superlow on all king powers as I rolled shitty shitty kings for 200 years straight, basically starting after the janissaries killed the Mehmed dinasty I think, so pretty cool if this works as intended :-) I tried to be as efficient as possible with my time, but for some reason in the end I pretty much got caught up in infinite wars with, where often I wouldnt be the warleader making it hard to expand via these wars: - commonwealth/scandinavia, these wars were useless as they had the expensive coring tech, I would break up their nation and they would just reconquer everything. Was pretty awesome to see them get triple teamed by me, austria and brandenburg each time although we werent allied with each other :-) - spain, was pretty cool but got easy when I was rich enough to annihilate the navies of all countries combined with my 400+ threedeckers. The last 100 years or so I focused on getting New Ottomans, Canadian Ottomans, South African Ottomans, ... off of spain. I didnt know those nations automatically formed so was pleasantly surprise :-) Really hard to get high enough warscore when they owe 90% of the americas after annexing portugal though. - Mughals/Hejaz/Kazan/Morocco together with my longtime ally Uzbek, basically very useful wars that really gained me a lot, but I was so distracted due to constant & useless wars with European nations (mainly caused by my other longtime ally France) that I didnt have enough time for these :-) - Really wanted to take italy/venice/india but simply didnt have left-over diplomatic powers for this, everyone there was always trying to do a coalition against me :-) Anyway, was really cool to see everything evolve, seeing England get wiped by scotland/france when I helped kill all its colonies, seeing mallaca completely dominating south-east asia for some reason, seeing mughals almost wiped after being number 1 cuz I needed like 4 trade nodes from them, seeing Muscovy completely explode :-) Minor issues: - Any tips on getting out of late-game wars that your ally started? I didnt want to make a separate peace because I conquered a lot of territory that I wasnt able to demand in a separate peace but I was sure my ally would be giving to me in a 100% victory, but I really was stuck at like 91% for ages when both Mughal and Spain core territories were fully taken. Also I was superhappy with my 100% trust French/Uzbek partnerships and didnt want to ruin these via a separate peace. - Warning for other new players, Unite Islam requires you to have all nations as an islam religion, do not do this if you go for negative piety and conquer Rome :-) - Any way to get the Suez canal working? It wouldve been so awesome to get my transport fleet through this but the king power requirements were waaaaaaay to high - How useful/necessary is giving gold to your colonies/vassals? Every time I did it they seemed to build a huge army, but I'm not sure if this was correlation or causation

90% of the time you pretty much want to run high piety as a muslim, unless you're doing some super tolerant humanist build (ottomans can get away with it due to their +3 heathens). There are some other situations (colonial / western european exodus game) but for the most part the +10% morale is pretty incredible. canals are terrible subsidizing your vassals generally helps more than giving them huge cash gifts.

Just started a game as Cusco with El Dorado. Man these new events (So much free stability!) and mechanics for S.Americans are pretty fun. Now I'm just waiting for my manpower to recover and then it's only 2-3 wars left before I have control over western south America.

anyone got some tips?, i am seriously considering taking Aristocracy idea group, to make them want my provinces less to give me time to westernize and expand before they attack me, but i am not completely sure if that will work and how much less they want my provinces and how much missions will influence that, also have not been able to get some nation to protectorate me. my native american run went reasonably well but when playing them they did not attack me untill i was westernized, at which point i would grow enough after the first lost war to win the second, and here they keep attacking me each time truce timer is up, and the first attack was before i even have a western tech nation bordering me

I finished my game up and decided to reform and westernise. My first tech since I westernised :D. 90 admin a tech, I had 3 admin idea groups though. I stayed buddhist the whole game (works pretty well with Humanism, you won't have to convert any lands in China that way) In the end I went for the great khan achievement as well and got it. Alhough pretty late, in the end I had to fight some big ass wars with half of europe. Not sure which game will be next though...
