what the hell happened to the map? How can you possibly see all of that in 1471? Oo
Is that some sort of bug?

An update added a lot of provinces. Those new provinces are added to old saves as terra incognita.

I just had a big WHAAAAAT moment in one of my games.
So, Commonwealth just collapsed in one of my games. Out of it spawned both Poland and Lithuania (as well as some other countries). Commonwealth still exsist as a OPM with Moldavia as a march

Nope, it was a bug. Now that i actually know a little bit how this should work, i am realizing so many little odd things about the game...

For instance, why can the AI call in allies months after the war started? They broke the alliance when the war started cause of debt etc., the really after 2 years and immediately enter the war as if it just started....

Or AI not getting full attrition, only the siegeleader counts towards the suply limit...

I'm pretty sure the two months penalty from call to arms was removed with Art of War along with all the war leader changes.

The AI does have advantages, mostly because it cant micromanage as well as humans. This should be the full list:
+ Show Spoiler +

AI does not get naval attrition. It does avoid going too far out of range with most of its naval operations though, to somewhat simulate it.
AI can see through fog of war, but pretends it can't in most cases.
AI gets +1 diplomat that it reserves for non-maintained actions because the diplomatic AI 'ticks' means that it can't do the recall-send strategy that players do with maintained diplomats.
AI gets +1 free leader pool because it's not nearly as good as a human at planning out when it will need leaders and needs to keep them on hand always.
AI does not pay hiring costs for advisers, only maintenance, because their hiring code isn't that good and otherwise they waste a lot of money.
AI can reassign admirals to a fleet that is at sea.
AI gets slightly fewer revolts in its home owner area (the provinces connected to its capital).
AI gets less native uprisings, because it is less than optimal at keeping its colonies garrisoned.
AI only suffers land attrition from its own units, while the player suffers attrition based on troops from all countries

Then it must be something related to the added provinces, as most locations (all?) where you have TI are also locations where a province was added.

So, maybe one of you can help me with this.

I am playing a Muscovy that has become Russia, with Religious, Quantity and Defensive Ideas, all of the groups completed except for the last defensive Idea.

And for inexplicable reasons, i have a -26% military technology cost due to "ideas". At some point it was 20. Then i looked a few years later and it was 22. Now it is 26 in 1635. I have no idea where this bonus is coming from. None of my ideas reduces technology cost. The closest to that is the muscovite idea giving me 20% reduced infantery cost, and the final muscovite idea reducing technology costs by 10. But i don't have that final idea yet, and 10 is not 26, and it would be all technologies, not only military.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Interesting, i did not know that. That did not always used to be like that, right? Is there hidden stuff like that around for other ideas, too?

All ideas reduce technology costs by 2% for its respective group (adm, diplo, military). I honestly dont know how long its in but i am pretty sure it was in game BEFORE art of war.

Edit: I found some posts about it in Paradox forums from begining of spetember so at least since then.

Hey guys, this is a bit off-topic, but CK2 is on sale and I think I'm going to get it. Any suggestions on DLCs? It seems that Sword of Islam is necessary to play as muslim characters, so I'll be getting that one for sure, but I dunno about the others

Broadly, the more the better. As to specifics:
YES:
The Old Gods is awesome because blood-crazed vikings are awesome. And Zoroastrians are badass Targaryens.
Sons of Abraham I think is generally a good idea.
Charlemagne is mandatory and awesome.
Way of Life is good if you want to play at any length and want more event types.

FOR SPECIFIC CIVILIZATIONS:
Rajas of India is for playing as India. Cool new religious dynamics. Also elephants.
Sword of Islam is mandatory if you want to do the Muslim thing.
Legacy of Rome is good if you want the Byzantine thing.
The Republic is good if you wanted to play as a Republic for some reason.

SKIP
Sunset Invasion is Aztecs showing up and wrecking your shit. I guess it's good if being a Norse pagan doesn't include enough human sacrifice for you.

Speaking about CK2, anyone know of a nice way to learn the game?

EU4 felt very natural to me, I learned the basics very fast. I've tried to start a CK2 game a couple of times and I can't get myself to learn how the basics work.

"Noob island" - In the 1066 start as the Count of Dublin at Ireland. You will soon inherit your father's county Leinster which will give you an edge over everyone else in Ireland. Right from the start use your chancellor to fabricate a claim on (1) Kildare and (2) Ossory. Having Kildare and Dublin will let you create a duchy. Work towards creating the Kingdom of Ireland afterwards. You need to hold two duchies and seven counties for that. You expand via (a) fabricating claims with your chancellor, (b) direct inheritance (c) or pressing your landed vassals or dynasty members claims. Also get rid of gavelkind succession asap or you'll lose half your land when you die and have more than one son.

The canals aren't worth it and the Holstein one is the worst actually.

I find Suez worth for Byzantium/Ottomans, much easier to get your navy into the right waters for African and Persian expansion.

Word of advice for Legacy of Rome as a DLC. It enables you to create a retinue. Which is incredibly powerful and for most parts oversimplifies the game. If you have trouble with internal wars or generally the difficulty of the game or just want to paint the map much faster, this DLC is a must. If you don't feel like being able to host thousands of standing troops in the eleventh century as...a viking jarl, then you should stay away from it

The Suez canal is good but it costs too much MP to be worth it.

I had some good rulers, it was a long-term investment but it allowed me to bypass Tunis and Portuguese (allied) colonies to get more base tax.

Can we QQ here? I went as third force to war vs ottomans. They were already fighting France+Austria+co and Ar-Qyuolu+co. They had 0 manpower and like 30% of their standing army, had their provinces sieged and etc. I go to war. (with Spain as ally and shitton of vassals. I am playing ethiopia and we already border ourselves along todays egypt/izrael border. I had better general, and 14vs 15 tech (me 15). What ottoamns do? Pull all their armies from other fronts, persia comes along. And stomp my army over. While they are still losing other fronts. Suddenly everything stops moving. Austria, France, Spain sits on on conquered provinces doing nothing! Later they white peace ottomans. I know its my fault, i should have remembered that on ironman comp will always screw You over. Dont go to wars You cant win without the help of AI.....Still maybe something good will come out this. Perhaps i will take break from EU IV. I just wanted to rush ethiopian achievment and didnt want to go the usual way.....Screw it.
