Slytherin Mini Mafia + Show Spoiler [Important Posts] +
The Rules The rules for this game are drawn from my model OP here: (link). Read them.
Supplemental Rules In addition to the rules outlined in the Model OP, there are a couple changes for this game.
1. Night Length: Nights will last 24 hours, and you may speak at night. 2. Day Length: Each day lasts 48 hours. 3. Lynch Type: Plurality: The player with the most votes gets lynched. Ties are resolved by who out of those two was most recently ahead of the other. 4. Activity: It is required you make at least 2 posts per 72 hours, and ALSO meet the arbitrary activity requirement that exists entirely in my mind and will not be explained. Voting is mandatory, and failure to vote will result in a modkill. 5. Deadline: The Lynch Deadline will be at 20:00 GMT (+00:00), though if this doesn't work, we can change that.
Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Special thanks to myself for going over this setup with me, and to myself, on the balance approval team, for testing this setup for balance. Also thanks to Probulous since I stole this OP from him and modified it to my nefarious needs. Also also thanks to Palmar for helping me with this setup.
If you have not read all the rules, go and do so. I might give you candy.
I am open to questions any time. If something doesn't make sense, please ask.

Roles and Setup information
This is a semi-closed setup. There are several possible roles, but which roles are in the game and how many roles of each type are not revealed. There are many possible roles, and what roles are in the game are drawn from this pool. There can be more than one of any of the roles. Not every role is guaranteed to be in the game. That being said, this game is balanced and is a normal mini, so don't expect weird stuff like "everyone is a vigilante"-- this is a normal game.
This is a 13 player Normal game. There will be 3 mafia-aligned players and 10 town-aligned players. There will be no alignment changing mechanics. Role and Alignment will be revealed on all flips. Mafia has 1 factional KP that has to be delivered by an individual, and is subject to roleblocking and visiting/tracking rules. A Mafia player can deliver a KP and perform a night action in the same night. If there is only one Mafia player left alive, then only one KP can be delivered. People are notified of RBs, but not if they are saved / if a save works.
Glorious Green Slytherins
Slytherin Student (Vanilla Townie): Slytherins are cunning, ambitious, intelligent, driven. They're an interesting mix, and excel in every field, from business to academia to dueling. No one interest ties Slytherins together, except that they're all tryhards. You are a Slytherin student, and you'll be the best you can be. You are a VT. Find and destroy the mafia.
Peeves' Favorite (Wandering Townie): What did you ever do to deserve this? Somehow, in your 2nd year, you said something to Peeves that ticked him off and now he goes out of his way to prank you. You've learned to take circuitous routes to avoid the ghost when you walk the corridors at night. You are a self-aware wanderer. Each night you visit someone at random, and are not informed whom you visited.
Carefully Neutral (Miller): After the 2nd Wizarding War wound down, your family emerged as well as it could. You presented the faces you needed to to the people you needed to, and lost no-one. In these days of quietude, you still mention nothing that would give away your allegience. People regard you with suspicion, but none attack you for none know where you lie. Self-aware miller. Return Red to checks.
Patronus Adept (Mason): You mastered your fear and produced a corporeal Patronus. Using your Patronus, you can communicate secretly with the other Patronus user. You are a mason, with a confirmed town partner and a QT you can speak in.
Fence (Gunsmith): Hogwarts screens mail and packages for illicit substances, but you have a connection. People know you as a student who can get you things. For the right price, you could get someone just about anything. Once per game, at night, you can gunsmith a gun for someone. They will recieve a gun with a single bullet and can fire it during the next night. If you are roleblocked, you can retry. If your target dies without shooting, your power is lost. If the player who gets the gun is roleblocked when they try to shoot, the bullet is refunded.
Favor-Bearer (1-shot Vigilante): Your ambitions are outside the scope of these schoolyard games, and yet here you are nonetheless. You've carefully built up favors and contacts during the past 6 years, and you're not going to let your last year at Hogwarts be a total shitfest. You have one major favor you can afford to burn to get a student kicked out of Hogwarts, if it really comes down to it. All you need is a little time to get things set up. Once per game, at night, you can fire a bullet to deal 1 kp to a target. You can't shoot during night 1. If you are roleblocked, you get your bullet back.
Blackmailing Filch (Banisher): You know Filch's terrible secret, which is... well, you're not going to share it. After all, the whole reason he does your bidding is that you don't share it. At your word, he gives detention to a student you need kept busy. Each night, you can Banish a person, which roleblocks them and prevents anyone from visiting, or targeting them during the night with any night actions (cop checks, etc) and protects them from one kp. In the day post, it will announce that they were banished overnight. Resolves after Mafia RB.
Spellwright (Jailkeeper): Your ambition and drive are unusual even within Slytherin. Your obsessive hours spent in the library may seem Ravenclaw to some (and indeed, the Hat offered you Ravenclaw) but you're not in it for the knowledge. You're in it to be the greatest spellwright in your generation. You've already crafted a new spell, the Swerving Body-Summoning Hex, which can easily move people into and out of combat. None save you can cast it. Each night, you can jail a person, which roleblocks them and protects from one KP. Happens after Mafia RB.
Pureblood Scion (Veteran): Heir to your Moste Anciente House, you have been respected and well-loved by everyone with an ounce of sense. You were born for this political maneuvering, and you'll be damned if some upstarts will try to force you out. Your political capital and high-society acumen will protect you, if nothign else. You have an extra night life. If you are RBed, that night life is suppressed during the RB.
Investigator's Child (Tracker): Raised by a former Death Eater who specialized in investigative magic, you have a natural knack for finding things out and tracking targets discreetly. Your senses have served you well in Slytherin, helping you to coerce the weak and avoid the ire of strong. Each night, you may select a target. You follow that target and see who they visit that night.
Auror's Child (Cop): Raised by an Auror, you have a natural knack for finding things out and distinguishing the truth. Your senses have served you well in Slytherin, helping you avoid petty intrigues. Each night, you may target a player and learn their alignment.
Town Win Condition - The town wins when there are no mafia left in the game or nothing can prevent that from happening.
Dastardly Dark Slytherins
Mafia Win Condition: The mafia wins when there are no remaining townies or nothing can prevent that from happening. Each night, mafia has 1 kp. Each KP must be delivered, but the deliverer can also do other actions.
Dark Recruit (Mafia Goon): More and more, you've found yourself drawn to this dark cabal you've joined. At first you were curious, but now, you're committed. You are a goon with no powers. You may deliver KP.
Practitioner (Mafia Roleblocker): You love this dark hex. You have to keep it hidden, of course, but when you use it, it's wonderful. Watching someone writhe in pain fills you with pleasure. You are a roleblocker. Each night, you may target a player and roleblock them. You can also deliver KP while doing this. Your RB resolves before any town abilities do.
Occlumens (Mafia Godfather): With careful training, you've mastered the art of Occlumency, letting you shield your mind from unwanted intrusions. No-one suspects you. You are a gf with no powers. You return green to checks. You may deliver KP without visiting the target. If you are RBed, you return red to checks that night.
Shadow (Mafia Rolecop): Raised by a former Death Eater who specialized in investigative magic, you have a natural knack for finding things out and tracking targets discreetly. Your senses have served you well in Slytherin, and now you put them to use in the name of your dark master. You are a Rolecop. Each night, you may target a player and see what their role is. You may deliver KP while doing this.

This might surprise people, but I always thought of Slytherin as the house of that kid who sits in the front row in class, works his ass off, maybe shows off with questions and shit that nobody wants to listen to, and gets a bunch of As then goes to Medical School cause he aced his MCAT while also volunteering to help underprivileged youth learn to read while also shadowing a doctor and doing undergraduate research. People think that guy is Ravenclaw, but he's not. He's Slytherin all the way. The Ravenclaw kid might be smart and studious and get good grades, but those gunners you see juggling 3 clubs and several volunteer activities and spending 18 hours a day studying, while somehow also being at all the science kid parties? Yeah, those kids are Slytherin for life.
Slytherin is pretty misunderstood in terms of virtue. Cunning, and ambition, yes, but what does that mean? I know lots of people who are Slytherin even if they don't think it, and I'm the same way. The fire that burns within you, that drives you and makes you the best you can be, and more? That's Slytherin.
There are dark sides to the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor coins as well (thinking of the downsides of Ravenclaw is left as an exercise to the reader). Every silent member of a clique who backed a bully or excluded people, or supported by people who did mean things? Hufflepuff. The concept of friendship and loyalty is beautiful, but it's deadly. The darkest movements aren't full of people who are cunning or brave or intellectual, but full of people who are just going with the flow, who are supporting the new status quo. When your dad's friend gives you an internship you wouldn't have had otherwise, when your boss tells you not to report that instance of harassment because the team needs to look good, when cops close ranks to protect a killer-- these are all Hufflepuff tendencies at play. And when you hate someone because you think their religious beliefs or lack thereof are evil, then you're showing the dark side of Gryffindor. All it takes to be a Gryffindor and be dark is to think you're courageous, to think you're doing the right thing, and that justice is on your side, and be wrong.
Of course, Harry Potter is a book about and for children. You don't see these things!

You do realize that Slytherin was basically a Nazi allegory, right?

Death eaters are the ones with the patches on their arms and the genocidal leader.
|
I guess that's mostly true. Although the anti-mudblood/muggle sentiment went back way further than Tom Riddle, back to Salazhar Slytherin himself. It seems pretty ingrained if most (if not all) Slytherins. But i guess being a...purist?...doesn't necessarily make you genocidal, just a terrible person
