Making it even more complicated would be worse with that scoring system. They also don't give out enough 10-10's. Agreed. It all comes down to how well the judges know MMA. The sport does need more 10-8 rounds, and more 10-10 rounds, but to pull that off it needs judges who know what the hell they're doing. The athletic commissions, one of them, need a person to step up and really push for changes in how MMA is judged, ref'd and all around regulated. Boxing has also had judging problems for decades. In fact, any sport with judging has always had problems with the judges. Judging can be improved upon , but it'll always be an issue. Even after some good improvements get made you will always get the occasional really bad decision.
This is true. I was actually going to add on to my previous post about how hard it is to even assign a point system to MMA. Maybe they should just do away with judging and you either win or tie...increase time, fewer fights on a card, I dunno. Not like anything will probably happen :\

I never like discussing and guessing about what the judges may or may not look for in judging a fight, at the end of the day, some judges really suck. The pearson sanchez fight was mentioned earlier, and I remember that being the biggest robbery I've ever seen live. It doesn't matter if Sanchez raised his hands after the fight, looked pumped up, and move forward, or whatever else the judges might of considered. Sanchez was eating shots left and right while barely landing anything on Pearson, you'd have to be fucking blind to give it for Sanchez, and apparently that's what happened.
I always get pretty pissed off at this, because these retarded judges don't seem to realize how much of an impact their decisions have. Imagine Ross Pearson putting in a camp of hard work, coming out, doing everything he practiced, everything he's suppose to do, putting on an awesome performance, then boom he gets robbed. How fucking shitty of a situation it must be for Pearson.
I saw an interview with Damien Maia awhile back where he said some interesting things about judging, about how judges just do not have any accountability for their actions. He was saying how these guys sit around and make decisions that affect people's lives, but no body knows these guys, and they're never made to answer for why they made the decisions they made. This immediately struck me, and I remember googling CJ Ross (horrendous boxing judge who people should know) and finding not a single picture of her on google. (There is one now thankgod, so people can see that dumb bitch's face). I just thought that was a really interesting point by Maia.
So based on that, I think one way to improve judging right now is if judges are made to go on some sort of pre fight show, post fight show, or any sort of fight event related programming, and actually show their face and talk about what they do, what they think and let the people get to know them. Make them attend post fight press conferences so that questions will be asked, and they'll have to face the crowd and answer them. The state of judging currently is almost as if judges are anonymous because no one knows or cares about those 3 names that pop up at the beginning of every bout, but putting their face on TV will force them to take accountability for what they do (or get reck by the crowd), and I think this will weed out some horrible judges.

this week's UFC Fight Night in Stockholm is supposed to have the 2nd biggest live attendance ever.

My view on judge accountability is that they should be free to make decisions without fear of repercussions. I think, however, they should be given instant access to round-by-round stats, and also dish out more 10-8 and 10-10 rounds. 10-8 rounds would really encourage fighters to be more active in their approach to scoring points, and not just 'neutralize' to grind out a boring, 30-27 win. It would also discourage fighters from engaging in dirty fighting, such as 'accidental' eye-gouging. There should also be zero tolerance for eye poking. Poking someone in the eye should be an automatic point deduction.

My view on judging is that they're just uneducated and not held accountable at all (Cecil Peoples comes to mind). TDs are over valued and most of them come from boxing (even then, that lady who judged the pacquiao fight fucked up so badly). The only judge I hear good things about is Ricardo Alemeida whose a former mma fighter. They also need gloves that are curved more but need to balance the ability to grapple :\

Fast card tonight thus far. That flying knee to the body was nice; looked painful.

I don't think she's ever judged a UFC fight before... Plus, it was a split decision, meaning there were two judges that scored the first fight for Timothy Bradley, the other being Duane Ford who has also never judged a UFC fight.
Scoring system isn't really an issue, but rather the inconsistency is the problem.

ryan bader and phil davis need to just get fired. If nothing, for consistency. If Dana's going to kick okami and shields then kick these guys. They have ZERO chance of ever winning a title and can only ever be gatekeepers. They both look so damn awkward!

I think the Swedish crowd is awesome, they booed once or twice, but grappling exchanges were always applauded.
Can't wait for Gustafsson vs Johnson, I think this will be an early candidate for fight of the year
