With colonial nations it doesn't affect the New World, so it's pretty much to limit European expansion in Africa, Asia, and India. If it was just distance from closest cored non-distant overseas province, I think that could solve the Mediterranean issues without creating many abusable cases.

Portugal didn't like it when I tried to colonize directly next to their province to start westernizing. They attacked me with the Holy War casus belli and wiped my 20-stack with like 6 troops to then siege about half of my provinces. They didn't want to accept any peace offer whatsoever, no provinces, no releasing nations, not even me becoming their protectorate. After beating me to the ground and driving my war exhaustion up so that rebels started spawning they finally send their own peace offer: white peace. What the fuck is the AI doing? Oo

3 reichs are better than one trying to use coalitions to get around Emperor calls. unfortunately its been hard trying to get HRE members into coalition, surprisingly. Even at 200 aggressive expansion they often don't join, even while they are at peace.

So here is what the Venice node looks like I'm only collecting from Sevilla other 13 merchants are all steering to Venice. Just a diplomatic map view to show how the pieces fell this time. Kind of proud of my Western Baluchistan vassal, they served me well. An extra screenshot.

Had the Hansa and Galicia as vassals. Eventually befriended France, after fighting him for some time, stopping his advance. Also allied Muscovy, though, we didn't do much together. He sure changed a lot though, became Russia, then Revolutionary Russia. Before the game finished, I annexed part of Hungary. He was profiting from me destroying Poland and Lithuania and attacked them when they were weak. World view: Number of troops. Didn't even bother building new ones. No one had a chance against me anyway.

Until it gets fixed I'd pretty much go no-CB colony seizing with aims to westernize in early 1500s every game.

This is my Najd game. Made quite some mistakes and wasn't really going for the Jihad achievement but I kind of exploded the last century. I have 344 provinces and it's 1753, do you guys think I can still make it?

No. If you want all the content, you need to buy all the expansions (more like DLC). If you don't care about economy, trade etc, you can skip those. Just take a look at what they offer and then decide. http://www.eu4wiki.com/Conquest_of_Paradise http://www.eu4wiki.com/Wealth_of_Nations http://www.eu4wiki.com/Res_Publica

Paradox-games get good discounts all the time, not only during the big steam sales. I think I've paid less than 40€ total on the game and all main DLCs (Conquest of Paradise, Wealth of Nations, Res Publica and Art of War)

First thing i did was expand into gibraltar and africa, i think i wasnt supposed to do that, but i went along with it, now aragon and i sandwitch castille, who hate me for gibraltar xD. But of a distraction while my colonies grow. Thing with paradox DLC is that a lot of them are for very specific things that you only need for specific playtroughs and do not affect the standard nations, because half of the DLc featuires come in a free patch.

Don't buy them now, the DLCs go on sale pretty regularly for 50-75% off. Steam usually slashes the prices when a new DLC launches but the most recent one was quite big so I don't know when that will happen again. About half the content from the each DLC is patched into the main game already so you really aren't missing anything vital. For example, half of AoW's content is a new world map but they made it the vanilla map too. If you can't get at least 200 hours of play time out of the vanilla game, the DLCs won't be worth your money. No one plays EU4 for less than 200 hours though. All that said, buy Art of War before any other DLC.

Just get the extended timeline mod. It's awesome

It's not like Civ 5 where the game receives huge improvements every expansion, EU Vanilla is always updated with the core changes, and they also release optional DLC for some bonus features which you may or may not want to use.
